*****THE OFFICIAL IOWA VS TROY GAME THREAD*****

So let me ask a simple question. Are these fans hoping to see the Hawks look great today or hoping they look bad, so it shows they are right about KF and the team. No, I do not think the Hawks are playing well but will support the players and hope they improve each game.

Just asking
I can't speak for anyone else, but I'd like to see a good product on the field dominate a lesser team. A P5 team on its home field should do that. If KFz can't deliver that at this point in his career, what's the value in his tenure?

I'm still so irritated with last week's choke job, I have zero confidence with any aspect of this team. Thank God I'm on vacation.

Also Sullivan won't see the field once today.

One of the best halves from Iowa football offensively in the last three years. I just want them to get this thing figured out. I just want to be competitive on that side of the field again.

Does Sullivan play today?
If yes, anything in the first half?
If no, because Cade has a great game or because Lester has either zero say or zero confidence in the change?
If Cade continues to struggle and they don’t give Sullivan a look, I don’t think anyone will be surprised.

Frankly, I don’t know how much it will matter. Outside of Kaleb Johnson, this offense has no serious home run hitters. Whether Sullivan would or wouldn’t give this offense a little boost doesn’t matter that much IMO.

Iowa should put up 50 against Troy, but I am not holding my breath.

The attitude of the fans is directly related to the product they see on the field.
Correct.

Only a few fans like eyesofhawk gets a hard on watching 13-10 type slugfests against NW.

We’ll see how the season unfolds, but outside of Kaleb Johnson the offense has been another dismal failure to this point. QB play is bad; the OL is still not very good despite all their experience; Luke Lachey has not been involved; and the only WRs who have shown any signs of making a play down field is a true freshman former quarterback and a NW transfer.

Maybe they look decent today against Troy, but I don’t see this offense getting much better come conference play. With the Iowa secondary being weaker than usual this year, Iowa is going to give up way more points than we’re used to seeing. The Iowa offense continuing to be trash means 7-5 might be the ceiling for this team.

This isn't near the Troy of previous years. New coach and basically an entire roster turnover.

Should be used as a nice tune up game for offense to get their shit together before BIG play (I hope)

Likely to be the last home game of the year where us fans in the stands can just sit back and enjoy the second half without having to be on edge.

The unfortunate thing about this game is that all the pressure is (and rightfully should be) on Cade to show he is not washed up as a competent D1 QB.

If he sucks it up today, then the noise for Sullivan will be about as bad as it was throughout all of last year with Hill and Iowa not having a capable backup that this coaching staff trusts to not fail in what they want to do offensively.

I have seen enough to know that Sullivan is apparently no world beater by any means, because the track record for Kirk and QBs speaks for itself.

But they absolutely cannot keep trotting Cade out if he just physically (and mentally) doesn't have it anymore.

i agree with you about the qb. but that said even before the season began i think the more thoughtful fans had to know that the early games would have to be won via defense as a new offense takes time to gel. no matter the issues we had on offense last week the isu loss from my perspective was 100% due to the defense.

100%?.............................

I anticipate the Hawkeyes looking good today. To Kirk's credit his teams do tend to perform better as the year progresses. Then when our hopes are at their ZENITH, we go to a bowl game with a legit opponent, and ... I'll let you fill in the blank.

we all have a soft spot for phil and all that he has accomplished. i'm just talking about the isu game. just look at the defensive stats. look at the manner in which they played a couple of the more important series. it was pathetic. i will concede that 100% was harsh...90% then.
I remember from you John's board. You're a reasonable sort.
Here's an honest query.
In a 12 (or 14 if you like) game season, how many games should the offense get credit for the win, and how many should the defense win?
Not trying to be snarky, I'm genuinely interested in a dialogue.

I think we will look pretty sharp today. Everyone, fans. coaches and players have seen what level they can play at, and have played at at times, now it is time to put it all together and play a complete game before conference games start.

over course of the season both need to carry the load equally. ideally one will step up when the other falters. over the last few seasons the D (and Tory) carried most of the load.
this season however began with a brand new oc, a brand new system, a qb who hasn't played in ages and is recovering from serious injuries. it is very reasonable to know and expect going in that the defense (and ST) must carry the team let's say for the entire ooc while the offense gels and gets fully installed. i don't think that's unreasonable strategy or expectation.

Enough with the new OC, new system, QB is rusty, etc excuses. That's what practice is for. This team has 17-19 returning starters (depending on who's numbers you go with)...it's veteran. "They're not ready yet" is bullshit.

Brown and Wetjen maybe could be big play guys but for some reaosn they dont touch the ball or get in the game

I want to see them play great and win big. But reality has smacked me in the face too often to be confident that will happen

they put up 19 points and 30+ TOP. not enough but massively better than last year. yet we lost. you tell me where the drop-off (which was massive) occurred last week.
