The Raneys

Actually that's not too horrible of a mistake being that most on here to look up photos of recruits probably...understandable mistake on his part especially when the tweet doesn't have names and has misleading rankings. How many people know that Michael Mocco is a red-head?
To be clear if we learn about some red-headed brotha committing elsewhere, don’t anybody get their panties in a bunch, that ain’t Mocco.

I think Raneys are the priority and not to compare prospects but they help us more than Jax. Raney took Jax to overtime and is right there with him. The kids live and die wrestling. Who understands twins better than TNT?

125: DeLuca
133: Raney
141: Raney
149: Bassett
157:
165:
174: Arnold
184: Ferrari
197: Ludington
Hwt: Keuter/Mocco
Estrada 149/157 right? Probably a beast 149 next year

Now, I don’t know the answer to that but, I know at least 2 names names they are after but not comfortable posting.

Is there a way to DM on here?

I think only if you are a member. No worries, I would just blab it all over the Internet anyway.

Based on? His results this year show he has a ways to go.

I like both guys and have been really impressed with Estrada but they need more work. Hopefully, Estrada takes every chance to wrestle freestyle and improve in the offseason. Right now, he is 10-30 ranked guy at 149 imo. He’s been doing yeoman’s work up at 157 for us. This is much better than what most Hawk fans expected but still not where he needs to be.
I think he would be an axe murdered at 49. Hard to measure him at 57 when he’s weighing in at 155 full feed - according to messages in the chat

If I was a betting man, it’s most likely down to Iowa and Illinois for the Raneys. Jax takes OSU out of the mix and Blaze takes out PSU. I know ISU is interested but they fit in perfectly at 133 and 141 for Iowa. Illinois is rebuilding so we need to go all in.
So … do you want to wrestle in front of 1,500 fans … or 15,500 fans!? 😜

My source told me that tOSU coach Tom Ryan was at the Raneys dual tonight.
They would have a big problem there with Davino and Bouzaki — one will have to go 33 and the other 41. To me, 33/41 are the ideal weights for the Raneys.

Personally, I think they slide in best at Iowa: DeLuca, Raney, Raney, Bassett. Not to mention, the twin connection and everything else Iowa has to offer. Hope we can outpace Illinois who is quietly rebuilding

ISU gonna have both Larkins, both Frosts, Echemendia, Paniro, Chittum all with 2+ years of eligibility? for 141-149-157?
Don't forget Swiderski, if he can stay out of jail.

At this point after the Carroll debacle, they better start doing a better job screening their targets. Also...they actually gave $$$ to Riggins.

What does he say about where they are going? I thought it was Iowa, Okie St and Illinois

It doesn’t have to say anything. When guys are being recruited, coaches visit them. It’s normal.

idk - as true freshmen Kael and Estrada are promising imo. add in another year of reps. subtract the seniors graduating. they could be closer than you think.

There’s some promise there. No one is saying there isn’t. I’d just like to see more out of a kid this year if we are talking about them being in the lineup next year. KV in particular.

counting on recruits like Estrada and Vionovich to make make the gigantic leaps from good prospects to finalist is why Iowa is not on top.

It COULD be that……or, infinitely more likely that it is PSU starts an entire lineup of elite recruits and basically wins 4 to 5 Individual championships per year.

In all reality, until the last 2 seasons even PSU has needed 1 or 2 Estrada, Voinovich types to round out the lineup. If a majority of the lineup was made up that way, you would absolutely be right. But, when 6-8 guys are top 10 recruits or high level transfers, that makes for a lineup comparable to most of PSU’s championships over the past decade…

It is an unfortunate reality that in the current arms race the development windows are far shorter. In the Gable years you could count on a guy like Estrada developing into a high AA to champion by his jr/sr years. Now if he doesn't by next year and the year after it's a huge hole that needs recruited over. Thanks Cael ;)

the thing about estrada was that he was very highly regarded prior to his senior year. i loved him. not just his credentials but his skill set and character.

i totally understand not having high expectations for your run-of-the-mill #60 prospect. but he was inside 20 prior to a wonky SR year.

idk. i kinda have hope for him.

I agree with you, Smalls. I love the potential and enjoy watching Estrada compete. Unfortunately, the Hawks have relied on "potential" for about half the lineup in recent years. When I say potential, these guys are still amazing, but just not necessarily AA or high-AA level. I wish the young man nothing but the best and would love a jump next year - very possible for a true freshman wrestling up. Bulk up Block and prepare Estrada for 49 next year, not to mention the other guys, and hope one of them makes big gains.

Normal for coaches to visit recruits? No way! Thanks for telling us all!

I was just asking him if his source, that he has mentioned in the past, had an opinion on where the Raneys are going.

Is that ok with you Spooner?

The lack of offensive attacks for both of these guys is a concern. Unfortunately when guys are not real versatile and aggressive offensively early in their careers it seems not to change a ton during their time in the program.

Enjoyed.

The fact of the matter is neither Estrada nor Voinovich came in with the pedigree of a 4 time AA and it shouldn't be a surprise or a disappointment that they don't look like one as a true frosh.

The issue is you have a guy like Rathjen who was a similar type recruit with similar expectations. He's supposed to be keeping 149/157 warm next year while these guys develop, but right now he doesn't look to have developed himself. So it's a problem.

Ask stupid questions…
You turn people away from here when you are a prick for no reason. I understand that narcissism has no cure, but you could atleast make an effort to play it cool.

In the past he has posted about a source connected to the Raney's. It could be reaching from me, but it was worth the 15 seconds it took me to ask. I'll live with it.

Have a great day Spooner. Enjoy the sunshine!

I disagree, and so does my reaction score, Cookie Boy.
