My top 3, are: Minnesota, Minnesota, and Minnesota.
But, I live in the Twin Cities area, so that influences it greatly.

You mean that one game against their third string QB?Originally posted by HawkeyeinOmaha:
For me personally it has to be NEBRASKA. Not because I have anything against the program. The new coach is very personable. I root against them because of the smug fans who continually mock and deride everything Iowa. I see it all the time. I just love seeing them get their comeuppance, and nothing drives them more batsh*t crazy than losing to the Hawkeyes in football.
Herby got this right, whichever one of them Iowa is playing on a given day....Originally posted by Hawkeye2222:
the team that IA is playing on any given Saterday then when the game is done then it is the next opponent, then it start over in BB, not so much hate as it is disdain. for that games opponent.

It seems sometimes like we do not have a clear- cut number one rival in the Big 10. Maybe it is because Iowa St. is our biggest rivals.
You lost me right here. Iowa State is not Iowa's biggest rival. It might be from ISU's perspective but there is a great number of Iowa fans that don't feel this way and would rather not HAVE TO play ISU every year. Rivalry games are fun. I am not sitting here pining for next year's game against the Cyclones, in fact, I loathe it and can't wait to be done with it so we can get into the Big Ten schedule. I've already circled the day after Thanksgiving as a day off work so I can watch the Iowa/Nebraska game. I couldn't tell you what week Iowa plays ISU.
Who is Iowa's biggest rival kind of depends on where you live. Over in western Iowa it is Nebraska. Give it 10 years and this will be the consensus answer, I guarantee it. There is just so much to hate about the Huskers.
If you live in NE Iowa it is probably Wisconsin or Minnesota.
Northern part of Iowa probably Minnesota.
Eastern Iowa, Quad Cities area it is probably Illinois.
The Big Ten being split into East/West divisions is going to have a big impact on who we see as chief rivals over the next 10, 15, 20 years. Wisconsin and Nebraska are probably going to be in the mix for the division more often than not. Minnesota will challenge once in a while. I predict Wisconsin/Iowa and Iowa/Nebraska to really heat up with a special emphasis on Nebraska if there are some big Black Friday games in the future.
This is mine as well. Any fan base whose favorite chant is "Who hates Iowa" moves them to the top of my list.Originally posted by dandh:

You have outed yourself nebby troll. That loss still drives you crazy doesn't it? No Iowa fan would feel the need to make excuses for an Iowa win. Should have beat you last year too. Too bad we crapped the bed in the 2nd half.Originally posted by SeaBassWins:

That is an excellent point, but you still don't have to root against anyone. Just root FOR whatever team is playing the team in first!Originally posted by klemman:

there are a few exceptions in the sports sense when I think it is appropriate to root against a team. If it affects your team's standing. So if your team is in second place it is appropriate to root against the team in first. Against your rival as long as it is done in fun and not some fictional moral bias that permeates message boards and radio call in shows.
