Had a Zima or something. Bhahahahahahahahaha!!!! Classic.
Harb, it's just ridiculous to me (even as a non-drinker) that someone gets the same charge for blowing .02 at 19 as blowing .20 at 21, or for blowing .08 riding a scooter as .18 driving a Hummer.

Literally putting others' lives at risk should not be the same as just breaking the rules. :/

A kid that age is old enough to take a 7.62 round to protect our country but too young to drink? , its moronic and fueled by paid off politicians who are rich by insurance company and activists lobbyists .

There are alot of different facets to the drinking game in Iowa City, one of them being that he is a football player. I know you are talking statute nuance here, but cops have to enforce whats in the law. If they don't and he's a ball player that could be trouble. Of course there is money to be collected and the court system simply doesn't have time or resources to hash out every case based on what vehicle was being driven and age. The age part should get some more consideration I think.
Love that Zima or something line. Great!

That's one way to phrase it... a deceptive way, but one way. You know as well as I do that Wirfs isn't just a "second year tackle". He's a prized recruit and athlete good enough to have started at both tackle positions as a true Freshmen...something never done under KFz.

This is a significant loss, could cost us a game.

My comments are no reflection of Wirfs playing ability and instead that a program some here say could win 9-10 this year should have way more depth to overcome the loss of one player for one game. As it turns out measured by this panic this means we are not that good and my prediction of 6-7 wins is likely closer to accurate.

Right. I'm not talking about him specifically. It just reminded me of something that pisses me off more generally (your point is taken and I'm glad you got the thrust of mine).

Legal, or illegal age; from age 17 to 97, alcohol in any form is a "mind altering drug" - a fact proven daily by many.

Dam! I’ve been there before, had a brew or two wasn’t even feeling it drove home and got popped.. very dumb specially in hind sight because you sit there & go over all the options you had beside driving, then 30 other people will drive home completely hammered and not get caught.. I’m not sure what Tristan’s excuse was but mine was i hated riding in people’s little bitty cars at 6’4 275.. sure was way more uncomfortable in the back of the 5-0 cruiser...take your beating like a man & just make better choices is all, learn a lesson and be better! these things happen!

& normally on a football team even though u feel like let your teammates down and it sucks most of them will have ur back still because, and let’s be real, half of them were there doing the same thing as you and were sadly gonna drive home too.. I’m sure they’ll be some extra conditioning because while your teammates will have your back the coaches are gonna have ur ASS!
Well said....

Prohibition has been tried. It didn't work. People, especially in a democracy, are ultimately responsible for their own decisions.

Yeah! Same goes for the immigration laws that are bullshit. If someone is able to make it across our borders, they should be allowed to stay and take advantage of our welfare system. The Government has set so many moronic laws in the US it truly is astounding.

[hope your sarcasm meter is working]

Good frickin Lord, dude. I get your sarcasm but c'mon. Apples and oranges.

And when my dad was 18 he could legally drink a beer thanks to the Vietnam argument .

Sitting out good players is not as worrisome as possible effects on overall focus and teamwork. If the latter aspects are managed,Iowa can weather this...

I remember when I was in college. Wow, some of you need to get a grip. Unless, of course, you never endanger anyone's life by always driving 55 or less on the highway. Then, in that case, preach away with your righteous indignation.

For the rest of us sane people, he made a stupid mistake. If he had been over. 08, then it would be a much bigger deal. One game suspension and stripped of whatever leadership honors. Move along.

I hope it’s just a one game suspension. If he played anywhere else it would just be a slap on the wrist.

maybe if a police officer doesn't pose as an Uber and arrest Brady Reiff... Tristan Wirfs calls an Uber and avoids the OWI ?
My son is at Iowa now and he said the same thing. Did Reiff get into a police car or a regular car with a police officer in it? If it was a regular car, it is not nearly as funny and feels a little bit like "dirt pool".

No excuses for OWI, but it sure seems like Iowa City police have tight sphincters. Reiff should have been allowed to take his Uber home. Somebody in city Gov really has a hard on for alcohol citations.

So.....OWI = speeding and cops checked for intoxication...........?

DRIVE THE EFFING SPEED LIMIT......

P.S. That is assuming they didn't just randomly pull him over for no reason, or that he wasn't maintaining control of the vehicle.

I got pulled over in college one winter because my windows were foggy from having played basketball and the cop thought my windows were illegally tinted.............

NIU 28
Iowa 24
Nah, we could start our 3rd string and we still need to beat NIU after 2013 and all their fans' bullsh** leading up to that game and since then after beating other Big Ten teams.

Doesn't matter who we throw out there. Kirk Ferentz could f***ing suit up at linebacker again. They need to take the L. Non-negotiable.

You're welcome. :)

My point is that it's a Law, like it or not ...obey it or pay the consequences.

Don't like the Law, take it up with the Supreme Court or your state/city politicians.

If your argument is that Kirk should disregard the offense because you don't agree with the Law, then you are either trolling or an idiot.

Then are you saying he won't be suspended if Ferentz also thinks its a moronic law?

Wasn't Adrian Claiborne charged with assaulting an Uber driver or something but Ferentz never suspended him because there was more to the story? I could be wrong.

No one wants KF or any of the staff to disregard the offense. We have some good talent and BF is scheming things up to makes us successful. Our offense has nothing to do with the law.
Oh wait...oops.

Think it was a shoddy case of he said-he said over not paying a cabbie.

Press Release from Iowa SID

IOWA’S WIRFS CITED FOR VIOLATION

IOWA CITY, Iowa - - University of Iowa football student-athlete Tristan Wirfs was cited for Operating While Under the Influence in Iowa City early Sunday morning.

“While we are currently gathering additional facts, I am disappointed in Tristan’s decision making based on the information that’s already been confirmed,” said Gary Barta, the Henry B. and Patricia B. Tippie Director of Athletics Chair. “He is subject to the rules and regulations of the UI Student-Athlete Code of Conduct, and the rules and regulations of coach Kirk Ferentz and his program.”

Wirfs is a sophomore offensive tackle from Mount Vernon, Iowa.

Nope, I didn't say Kirk should ignore the offense. In a different post, I said a one game suspension and stripped of whatever leadership honors would be appropriate. He made a poor choice.

My point was in respect to your illegal immigration scenario, facetious or not, in respect to a 19 year old driving above .02 but below .08 as being rather obtuse and frankly idiotic.

Oh, and please make sure you never drive over 55 on the highway. It is the law after all. If not, see your local rep and then get the f#ck over yourself. But I'm sure you always keep it at 55 or below, so the point is moot.

That is all.;)
