I would pick Haluska before Gatens.

I feel like Sam Williams, Fred Brown and John Johnson need to be on the team somewhere because I just can't imagine Iowa has had 13 better players than those three.

Fred Brown and John Johnson were starters and key players on an NBA championship team. They have to be on a top ten list.

I’m not disagreeing with having them on your all-time team, they were great ...but this is about collegiate career, not professional.

Stokes was a far better player than either Garza or White, it’s not even particularly close or debatable to anyone who’s figured out there are actually two ends to the basketball floor...

Feel free to post your team, you’re entitled to your opinion. I’m sure many would have Stokes on the first team. IMO White was a superior talent overall and Garza was just far more consistent.

BJ Armstrong Fred Brown

LOL, Stokes absolutely runs circles around either of them on defense to the point its laughable and his offensive numbers aren’t far behind Lukas at all (higher career fg% and only 3 less ppg on 2 less shot attempts per game career) and they completely blow away Whites.

He was a better scorer, rebounder, and defender than White. WTF is White better at that makes him a better talent overall?

Anybody that leaves Lester or Stokes off the first team is embarrassing themselves...

Just only know the legends of Bucky's teams. That's my top 15, just the way I'd put 'em on the court.
You’re only allowed 13 on this thread ...who do you drop?

If you don't have Fred Brown in the top 15, you've never seen him play. Otherwise, i generally agree with your picks.

13 only please ...had to draw the line somewhere or people would list two teams worth, like you did.

Really had a hard time excluding Fred and Kevin Kunnert. Could swap Freddy B for Horner. Freddy was a one trick pony, although his trick was pretty awesome. Bad shooting judgment though. Big boneheaded move cost Iowa a Final Four. Would have averaged 30+ a game with a three point shot.

Had some convo with youngsters that had never heard of Pete Maravich beyond hearing the name. The Pistol averaged over 40 ppg his entire career without a three point line, and if you saw him play at his preinjury peak, he would have averaged over 50 a game easily.

I can’t judge those I didn’t see. I started watching Iowa just after the Final Four year in 1980, so here’s mine:

Garza
Armstrong
R Marble
Street
Kingsbury

Stokes
Earl
Woolridge
D Marble
Bohannon

Gatens
White
Weiskamp

The last few are tough, and there are 7 or 8 others who could make the final 3.

Luka
Ronnie
JJ
Freddie
Nelson
Roy Sr
Sam W
Carl Cain (never saw him, but probably top 10)
Stokes
Kunnert
Acie
BJ
Andre

Freddie Brown
John Johnson
Sam Williams
Don Nelson
Ronnie Lester
Luka Garza
Roy Marble

Greg Stokes
Adam Haluska
Kevin Kunnert
Chris Pervall
Andre Woolridge
Carl Cain

Never played. Freshman were ineligible then. SIAP
Thanks, I actually knew that. ;)

Just wanted the OP to acknowledge it and then rescind his suggestion that Connie be counted among Iowa’s all-time greats. Facts are, although he was a member of the team for one year as a non-participating Frosh, he never actually played for the Hawkeyes in an NCAA sanctioned game.

I started watching about 83

Center Garza
Forward Stokes
Forward Aaron White
Point guard BJ
shooting guard Roy Marble

second team
Center Earl
forward Street
forward wieskamp
point guard Andre Woolridge
shooting guard JBo

The problem with lists like this is recency bias. Especially younger people who have no sense of history. You also can’t compare athletes from different eras physically. You have to take into account what they did in the era they played. That being said, here are my 13, in no particular order:

Murray Weir
Ronnie Lester
B.J. Armstrong
Fred Brown
Roy Marble Sr.
John Johnson
Sam Williams
Bruce King
Carl Cain
Greg Stokes
Luka Garza
Don Nelson
Acie Earl

I know many folks put Chris Street on their list, but that is for “what might have been.” Had he lived there is a good chance he would be one of the all-time best, but since he didn’t, I could not justify including him.
