(10) Iowa vs (7) Cincinnati

I remember taking a Friday morning off to watch an Alford team play Cincinnati and it was over in 5 minutes. I'm guessing Cincinnati is kind of athletic.
I wasted an afternoon of being outside for college spring break in Puerto Vallarta to take a cab to Senior Frogs to watch it. Worst idea ever.

Some might question why Minnesota, and even Bradley, play in Des Moines while Iowa plays Cincy in a virtual home game in Columbus. Why not Iowa in DM and Minny in Columbus?

Cause everybody's already seen MSU work over Iowa in Iowa this year

Terrible draw, Cincinnati should be a 5 seed. And even if we do find a way, then it's Tennessee, who could easily have been a 1 seed.

WE Should have been an 11 seed, right at our ranking. Would have liked that better... Oh well. 85% of first round games are tough. And pretty much everything after is a battle.

Tough matchup but I think many are forgetting just how tough the big ten has been this year. We have a fighting chance for sure.

Playing in Ohio sucks, but their fan base isn’t overwhelming. Of the top 8 teams, TN doesn’t worry me as much as the others. When Iowa plays well, we can beat any team in the nation. Obviously, when we don’t, we stink. New season. Let’s go!
Cincy's enrollment is 44,000. They have a big fan base and a tremendous basketball history and passionate fans. The in laws are there and so I follow them somewhat. Bad matchup for us...

This will be Cincy's 9th straight NCAA appearance. They've lost in the first round only once, lost in the second round 4 times, the third 3 times and made the regional semi final once, in '12. They're averaged 29 wins over the last 3 years.

Actually Cincy is known for regularly making the tournament, then not doing much.

Not worried regarding their history.

They were a 2 seed last year, lost to a 7.

Made the sweet 16 like 6 years ago, then lost to a B1G team.

In as a 5 one year, lost to a 12 seed.

Not worried. At all.

They almost always win the first game, though.

I am not thrilled with our draw, but it is definitely a game the Hawks can win.

Lol honestly that's about how I see this going. Physical Cincinnati team against our streaky and less-physical group that isn't quite ready yet.

Just hope that next year's regular season (and conf. tourney) goes about like that following season went after that 2005 game.....;)

Iowa is gonna have be tough on the boards and value the ball. Cinci plays tough physical basketball. Luka/Tyler/Ryan are gonna have to battle and play through contact. Guards are gonna have to score!

I saw a theory on the Cincy board that since they were seeded lower than expected, the committee balanced it out by putting them close to home.

What I thought was strange was a potential Minnesota-Mich St matchup in the second round of games. Conference rivals rarely meet that early in the bracket.

There shouldn't be any balancing like that from the committee though......

HawkDowner. Great attitude, please don’t watch or post again

Ok, man. Fair enough.

We're back in the tourney, a hell of a lot more fun than last year. I think Cincy is a tough matchup and Tennessee has the kind of athletes that...well..we don't. But hey...it's the Big Dance. Everybody is good and anything can happen. Let's see what the guys can do

I'll tune in and support the Hawks Friday...like I always do. We can talk about the 2019 "body of work" after the tourney run is done.

GO Hawks!

Cumberland is 6’5” guard who leads Cincinnati in assists. Don’t know that Cook would be matched up vs him as they also start 6’8” PF Scott and 6’11” center Brooks. More likely JW/Moss/Baer on Cumberland. But Cumberland leads their O by a big margin at 18pts/gm. Only other player in double figures for them is another guard- Williams at 10pt/gm. Fran seems to gameplan well vs teams with a single offensive focus- blanketing them with length. Cumberland shoots 40+% from 3- Williams 28%. So, even more than Iowa, they’ll need to shoot well vs Iowa’s length.

Cumberland is a big 6’5, so that’s why I feel Cook and his strength will matchup better.
