You make some good points. Fran barks and his face turns red but I've never seen him lay a hand on an opposing player or coach.

Quite the opposite.

During the handshake brouhaha with the Illinois coaches two years ago, Fran sent all of his players and coaching staff to the locker room to make sure the situation didn't escalate any further.

At the time, some in the media were criticizing Fran for the move. Perspective is a hellava thing.

And then they were separated. All Howard had to do was turn and walk away, after his players pushed him back. Instead he pushed past his players to swing at the other coaches. Thats like saying that after the Illinois assistants went after Fran last year in Carver, he would have been justified in taking a swing at them. Do you really believe that would have gone over well?

I agree with Gard is not blameless. If I remember right he seemed to be mouthy against us when we played them. Howard should never have done what he did, but my guess is that the Wisconsin assistant said something Howard didn't like. Still no excuse for Howard. I'll be over joyed when The punk, Davidson, is gone from the league.

It should not matter one bit if it was a punch or a slap, he still physically contacted another person. At minimum he should be suspended for the rest of the year, but really should be fired for this. Very unprofessional for someone in his position.

Howard just keeps proving what a POS he is. Throwing the open-handed slappy punch today, going after Turgeon last year, and it was either last season or the one before, but he kept his starters in until like the final 5-seconds mark in a blowout win over Iowa in AA, when Iowa had been playing end of the bench guys for a full 2.5 minutes or so.

But that said, that little b* Gard started it all in the HS line by grabbing Howard's arm and sticking a finger in Howard's face as he went at him verbally.



Firing Howard and suspending both programs for the rest of the season - including postseason - is the only reasonable thing to do.

This is intellectually dishonest. Watch the video. Yes, Gard stopped Howard to talk to him, but nothing that I would all aggressive. Once that happened Howard was the full on instigator. Grabbing Gards sweater, Pointing his giant finger right in his face and then throwing a punch when no one was within 2 feet of him (layer of his own players as buffer).

If he gets the max from the B1G it sounds like 10K fine and 2 games. Michigan will likely not add on to it. Seems like it would be a good time to fire with cause and see if you could bring in a decent coach and human being. ESPN will spin this as him being a players coach and encourage top recruits to take the money and play for him.

The poor multi millionaire is treated so badly by everyone he’ll likely get a raise and the university finds a way to pay his fine.

Did you watch it? When he was already shaking hands with the other MI coaches and players, what he did was not out of place. No penalty for Gard. For Howard to say he was defending himself by his actions is pure crap. What he did was against someone else and he took extreme action to do it.
