Sometimes. Probably not between two 50 year old college basketball head coaches, however.

There need to be some serious suspensions. Clearly Howard should be suspended for the rest of the season, including the tournaments. Coaches fighting after the games cannot be allowed. The punch made it a crime, something the NCAA should continue, although Howard shouldn't be charged. The punch also came after Howard had disengaged and then reentered the fray with the punch that landed.

The B!G needs to rethink its officiating policies. Allowing the thuggish play, especially at places like Wisconsin where thuggery is trained.

Howard was the aggressor and upon second look Howard first grabbed Gard's shirt. That's when Gard/Howard disengage but Michigan players are still moving collectively against Gard and those Badger pukes. Just seeing Davison's face was some incitement, I'm sure. There were two Michigan players that threw punches. No 14 lands a punch then creeps back into the Michigan mass but later steps up and throws another punch. I think it's no 5 for Michigan that steps up and throws a punch.

Watched again (breaking it down) and 0 for the Badgers is throwing and landing several punches. No 33/34 from Wisconsin also pushes some Michigan guys but he also pushed Badgers so he might have been trying to break it up (he was huge).

I'm thinking Howard for the season, Gard for the regular season. No. 14 for Michigan 3 games, No. 0 for Wisconsin 3 games and No. 5 for Michigan one game.​

Watched it multiple times on my phone. It appears Howard was going to walk by Gard and not say a word to him as he was obviously fuming. You can’t grab a coaches arm to stop them. Howard obviously went way overboard, but Gard crossed a line also. Can you imagine an opposing coach grabbing Fran’s arm when he is fuming?

He pulled his mask up and said something to Gard before Gard ever touched him.

Thats nonsense. This is just like the Illinois Iowa game last year where we were way ahead and they kept pressing and fouling in the last 20 seconds, and we went down and dunked it. Tempers then also. I can't stand gard either, but I think his explanation that he was coaching his players on getting it in without turning it over is reasonable. Why didn't Howard just call off the dogs? Do you think Howards never, put it to someone when he had a big lead as a player or coach? Should the other coach have been able to get a free swing at him because he didn't like it?

Howard was grabbed 1st. It does not justify his actions, but anyone law enforcement officer or attorney can tell you he would win any type of court hearing in regards to assault.

He was grabbed by Gard and then like a minute later punched someone else that wasn't touching him. That isn't going to fly in any court there, Sparky.

Sorry, but thats not what I see. Gard basically cups Howards elbow. This was not a physical response. I also think his explanation in the presser sounds reasonable that he was explaining to Howard why he called the timeout, so that his players would get a fresh clock. He was "coaching". When Gard stopped him Howard immediately grabbed a fistful of Gards jacket. Its clear as day in the video. IMHO, THIS was an aggressive move. Then after Michigan players seperated Howard he clearly pushes through them to take the swing at Wisconsin coaches. This is no different then the incident at Maryland where after tempers flared and Howard had to be physical moved away from the other coaches several times he made no less the three attempts to go around his players and coaches to go after Turgeon from some distance away. I would be one of the last people who'd expect to line up defending Gard or the actions of some of his players, But its very clear here who the aggressor was.....

It does not matter what Gard's intent was, he should have kept going. If he needed to have words with Howard do it after everyone has had a chance to calm down and away from the camera's. Howard was already past Gard when Gard grabbed him, you just don't do that with someone that is obviously already pissed off.

Someone commented that Howard was jawing as he was making his way through the hand shake line this is where I love Fran's approach, turn around with your team and head to the locker room.

That Wisconsin coaching staff is far from innocent in this. Besides the head coach grabbing Howard you had another assistant making a motion with his hips (whatever that means), and then a different assistant coach practically throw himself in an attempt to get at Howard running his mouth. They all should have just left the court, they got the win, why provoke the other team?

I can't help but wonder what the odds are of them facing each other in the BTT. lol

What the replay, Gard literally grabbed Howard as he was going through the hand shake line. Howard was walking right past Gard, none of this would have happened had Gard just kept going.

Casually grabbing someone’s arm to get their attention does not constitute assault. Smacking someone in the face clearly does though.

Not totally sure but my guess is that both locker rooms are down the same tunnel, which appeared to be behind michigans bench. They were being smart and letting Michigan exit to their locker room b4 leaving the court to their own. Could be wrong but that was how it looked to me

One game suspension and $10,000 fine for a ref stepping into his way, raising his arm, and initiating contact with(leaning into the contact) Fran. And I’m ok with that punishment as Fran was still in the wrong in this situation despite everything I said above.

The conference can’t fine Howard more than $10k and can only suspend him 1 game more. The school better do something more than the conference. And frankly criminal charges would be ok too since the game was over.
