That at least got some really information out from the very first post on this thread, 22 pages ago. Brody is tearing it up in the room as per HIWillie! That should keep it going for another two week. Your welcome.
Just for Kwood I think Grothus should pull a Barry Sanders and just retire right now at the top of his game. He has set every HR forum record and has nothing left to prove! Short of winning a National Championship, he can't get any higher than he has been over the past couple months.
Personally, I hope he only wrestles if he 95% or better and has a solid chance at a R12 or better performance at Nationals. The sacrifices and hardships he has had to deal with are nearly unbelievable. The letdown if he underperforms could really be destructive. I obviously don't know him well enough wherein he may have the mental make up to shake it off no matter what. But this sport can punish people mentally. Putting in all the extra crazy weight cutting and not getting anything back for it would be hard to take.
I know I said it before, but MAN I HOPE HE QUALIFIES AND HAS A GOOD SHOWING IN MARCH!!! I can't imagine cheering harder for anyone else!

Since we know Brody rides the Fast Bikes at 141 mph or so............
I think his mental makeup would take a letdown at 141 on the mat. I think drag racing at over 140 mph on a motorcycle would harden your mental attitude a bit.
Hope all he needs is to knock the rust of by getting back on the mat and getting live action.
I couldn't disagree more. The fans don't deserve to know who is starting. I bet Tom is 99% sure on who is starting, but he isn't going to make his final decision until he sees both guys warm up. I have zero doubt Brody will be on the mat tomorrow as long as he takes care of business and feels good(No doubt in my mind he will). They weren't planning on starting Topher against Rutgers, but Topher changed their minds during warm ups. Come on Friday!
I don't really have anything to add, I just felt it was time to be a part of this epic thread. I hope Brody can live up to the expectations of this thread. We need him to if we're going to win in March. Stranger things have happened...

Hey, i've always liked you MSU. You bring great wrestling knowledge and debate to this forum. I think that you just defended a point or two way too long on here when it was not being received well at all. I always get a kick out of it on themat when you engage in some great banter with the usual trolls. Who was/has been more influential in the following areas:
1.Whose Impact was greater for the program on the mat--Slaton 2nd @NCAAs
2.Impact on recruiting--Slaton, there is still talk among the faithful of wanting a chance to wrestle the living legend that was Joey Slaton
3.Impact on IC Community--Grothus, while rehabbing and cutting weight performed numerous, random acts of kindness in the strongman role
4. Impact on Hawkeye Report--TBD, to this point Slaton's thread were more passionate and divisive; Grothus' threads resemble at times a unicorn watch.

I Just got an E-Mail from Tom Brands ... Grothus is starting at 141 in both meets this weekend. End of debate, and hopefully this thread is buried deep in the ground forever. Go Hawks!!!

Id like to see Slaton and Andrew Long go at it in an exhibition match at 149 nowadays. Is Joey still in good shape running that club team?
While I am at it. the NWCA all star meet has to find a way to put Long up vs a D1 guy. I see Long is at 149 right now. How fun would a Zain Retherford vs Andrew Long all start match be? Or Sorenson vs Long. Whoever wins 149 this year.

Agree, MSU is a good guy.... makes thoughtful posts and not afraid to inject some intelligent rebuttals to some of the clowns on themat forums.

Zain is boring as hell against anyone with a pulse. Clings on and stalls out the periods. Have him bump up against IMAR for an exciting a** whooping. I would rather see Long vs Dennis for an exciting match. Or for pure evil pleasure I would like to see Metcalf maul the felon.
Lets shake hands and get along fellas. Tonights the night! We are all a little grumpy since it's been so long since the last home meet. Add the excitement of Brody wrestling and everyone is ready to rip some heads off!
yeah Id go for Long vs Metcalf or really Long vs anyone around that 144 weight in a folkstyle exhibition. Just think he should get an All Star invitation. I would love to see Zain try and ride a guy like IMAR. Be a pretty cool scramble or two.
I will disagree with Zain though. I think he has stepped up his game on his feet this year. His freshamn year not as much. Not sure how much you have seen of Zain but thats kind of unfair. it would be like PSU fan only watching Sorenson vs Tsirtsis and saying Brandon doesnt have an offense or never shoots. Its jsut not true and based on such a small sample.
IMO Brandon has a good chance to beat Zain but its a small window that involves getting a 1st period TD and choosing nuetral latter on. Brandon is good enough to pull that off but as much as i hate to admit Zain looks a lot more offensive on his feet this season and his riding is the best in college. He's a python. I agree Zain can ride to stall as good as Mark Perry use to but he can punish you just the same as Clark does. I dont have an issue with Zain or his ride. Dude manages a 7 min match better than anyone right now. He inflicts his game plan and then some. Not many can say that. Same as wrestling Clark too, Best not be behind after the 1st period.

Brody seemed amused when they asked about his walk up song during the post match interview. It is probably a nod to EB (Brody's workout partner) who is in this video...
