Dantonio is linked to the mishandling of 16 cases involving his players dating back to 2007 where everything is ALLEGED to have been kept within the MSU Athletic Dept.

He gone?

Here is Tim Brando talking about the allegations against Dantonio and Izzo before Jan 26's Wisconsin at Mich State basketball game. Izzo may be gone soon, too.

Dantonio is a bit fortunate that this is all coming down in his offseason. Izzo on the other hand can’t “hide” from the media and questions. I imagine the team will get a little “rough” treatment on the road. Interesting to see how that may wear on him and he may be saying the right things now but we’ll see if he’s able to keep it up. Like one of the E Lansing sports writers pointed out yesterday Izzo is not always the most “eloquent” speaker and at times he says things that come out wrong. I can see him hanging it up at the end of season. I can envision Dantonio fighting, denying, and not ever accepting any culpability.

The AD at MSU will be forced to “ clean house” just as USA Gymnastics has bc of incessant cover ups. This is the worst time for this to break out for them with the current sexual harassment climate. It has already begun! The president and AD are already gone. There is ZERO doubt Dantonio is gone. Just a matter of time.
As far as Izzo that would be more complex for the admin. to pull off but it’s conceivable imo. They might not have a choice if there is an all out smear campaign against MSU by the media.

Even it they survive initially both are now under the serious microscope and will have to actually commit to running their programs ‘under high standards’. That equals more losing for both.

True. We as fans label some of the coaches as “geniuses” but really they are just men willing to make a deal with the devil to win. Petino, and yes even John Wooden turned a blind eye to some things going on in their programs.

I am an Iowa alumnus and as enthusiastic as anyone in rooting for the Hawkeyes. But I would rather shut down the interscholastic sports program than create or tolerate a system of protecting athletes from charges of sexual abuse. I don't know how Michigan State officials can look themselves in the mirror.

Dantonio's response:

"Every incident reported in that [ESPN] article was documented by either police or the Michigan State Title IX office. I've always worked with the proper authorities when dealing with the cases of sexual assault. We have always had high standards in this program, and that will never change."

The problem is the universities and their Title IX offices investigate and we all know what happens with most of those cases.

What’s clear in almost all of these cases and likely will be repeated in future ones is it takes a large group effort to skate through these issues and in some cases crimes. The power of winning and prestige promotes the coach as a ‘genius’ and then this reverberates backwards through the AD to the president and branches out as everyone has an underlying pressure to support the program. It becomes in everyone’s best interest to look the other way and cover up.

Look at Dantonio being retained after the last off season mess. He had a network in place starting with the AD to overcome it and remain when we know this was not an isolated situation in one off season but a long repeated pattern of sleazy means to an end.

The resemblance is uncanny:

Please stop equating Dantonio’s selfish denial as him being like a captain “going down with the ship”....that is an honorable sacrifice, his actions are far from that.

Dantonio is exactly the same as Briles down at Baylor. Making calls, pulling strings, to get his guys out of trouble. MSU even had their own investigation done by a firm told not to keep any records!

Now that the NCAA and state of Michigan are finally getting serious about investigating, we can look forward to the emails and other cover-up documents surfacing.

There are 16 cases where its alleged Dantonio kept it all contained within the athletic dept. Dantonio said he handled every case the way it should have been. If not, he gone.

There are allegations that Izzo had 2 players and 1 assistant where sexual assault charge allegations were swept under the rug. If true, he gone too.

So far it's all "alleged," correct? I don't know why everyone's acting like it's a given they are guilty.

Maybe so, but usually where there's that much smoke there's a fire. You would think 16 is a lot of allegations for there to be nothing behind it. Besides, we've learned over the years quite a bit about Dantonio's way of operating, so this seems right out of his playbook. If this gets blown up, as big as its looking, the mere perception will cause heads to roll. Two so far, the AD and the university president. My guess is, this will not be the end of the house cleaning.

Because believing 16 different women were lying and Dantonio and his players are innocent would be a little ridiculous. In terms of sheer odds, it's overwhelmingly likely that this is real.

Think of it like this. If I produced 16 witnesses at trial saying a dude did something, he's convicted as f*ck, right?

Dantonio's always been a mix of slimy and smarmy. Am surprised Izzo is involved- he comes across as pretty straight.

I could give a shit if they are LEGALLY guilty of anything. Nobody is saying they committed any crimes. You sound like Dantonio. I’m not guilty of anything! They’ve shown to be poor leaders of young men that should not be representing a state university.

keep in mind that 16 came forward; how many have not come forward yet because of shame/embarrassment?
