Did CJ Fredrick Ruin His Career?

As I said, CJ was very selective in his shooting, which is generally a good thing, but guys like Bohannon, Jok and Gatens didn’t have that luxury. They had to hunt shots and they still made them at a much higher volume. But if you strictly consider percentage and nothing else, I’m sure CJ is up there, with a very low volume.
Volume isn't a good indicator of how good a shooter someone is. No hawkeye fan would ever use that argument against Kent McCausland.

Were just going to have to disagree.

Ocasionslly making high degree of difficulty shots is less important than being automatic when open IMO.

That's how you tell who the best shooters are.

Kent McCausland was a high volume shooter, so correct, no one is using that argument on him.

We will have to disagree. Most college players can hit a wide open three. It’s making it with a hand in your face or from 25 feet out that separates the greats from the rest.

Nunge is one of the best forwards in the country today. I don't know that Rebraca would be here today if he'd stayed though.
This is no shot at Rebraca, who I like very much, but Nunge was almost the perfect big for Fran’s system. I get why he transferred and I even support it, but things could have worked out much differently.

CJF attempted 4 a game as a frosh which was his only healthy year.

KMac averaged 4 attempts per year.

Most 3 pt attempts in any basketball game are wide open in general. Thats a fact.

Most college players shoot low 30% from 3 shooting mostly wide open shots. Good shooters shoot 40% great shooters are above 45%.

People have ruined their careers over worse things than marrying Marne Green

good luck to CJ and his long runway his mate

Don’t nobody care about that idiot and dumb ass uncle no more! Help on the way for him to join a construction company if he ever graduates

I feel bad for the kid. He grew up in Kentucky blue, wanted to play there, made it but couldn't stay healthy. I know he could have handled his time at Iowa and his departure from Iowa better but he was good for us when on the court.

Nice try.

CJ averaged 3.4 attempts per game at Iowa. In Mac's last 3 years he averaged 4.83 a game. Not even close.

I don't think it is true that most 3pt shots are wide open---I'd say well less than half of 3pt shots are wide open meaning no one within a few feet. The only guys that get open looks on regular basis are those that are below average shooters. The average 3pt percentage is around 33% in college last time I checked. It doesn't makes sense to give a 33% 3pt shooter an open look because that is efg% around 50 percent.

My recollection is CJ was 3rd scoring option on the team and he only shot 3pt shots when he was open. Good defenses shut him down and he didn't have the range to step out further. JBO was obvious the volume 3pt shooter and he only got open 3's off of defensive mistakes and by moving futher out from the Arc.

Having glass bones probably hurt his career more than anything.

He could barely walk.
I guess I never had the warm fuzzy feeling about CJ as some here did. He was rarely available and quite frankly over rated in my opinion in what he brought to the court. Not surprised his experience at Kentucky was similar to his stay at IOWA.

Unfortunately Iowa football has put their trust in a player with the same issues.
And they desperately need him to play better and stay on the field all year. The alternative has already been revealed to us, and 2 years in a row of the alternative is not what a new OC needs to deal with.

His uncle gave him some really bad advice. Really bad.

CJ did Fran and Iowa dirty by waiting so long in the cycle to let Fran know. Really put Fran behind the 8 ball in regards to getting a transfer.

By transferring to Kentucky? He played 9 minutes today. 0 points . He did have a few good games early in the year against bad opponents, but not much sense. He would’ve been a major contributor here.
Maybe UK ruined his career by having talks with a player currently on another team. Their meddling played a role.

is CJ about 25 years old by now?
He's one month older than Joe Weiskamp. They both turn 25 this summer. When I googled Fredrick to see his career stats Weiskamp popped up so I did a check in on him to see how he's doing lately. His birthdate jumped off the page to me after seeing Fredrick...

Not sure that's true. Patrick's minutes are down, and he isn't being used much in tight situations.
Excuse me? Patrick was in the last four minutes of the Indiana game and gsve nothing to help win the game. In fact, he let the go ahead three occur due to his terrible rotational defense. Dude shouldn’t see the court at all but Daddy.

He missed six games as a freshman and four as a sophomore. CJ started and averaged 26.6 mpg in 84% of the games he was at Iowa. I don’t think “rarely available” is an accurate description of these numbers.
