When comparing these guys I think you have to include post college. I would not be like that at all, unfortunately there are to many psu trolls to weed through. I appreciate all wrestling fans, especially the ones that know the sport and their history.
Mayo was awesome. His story pulls on the strings and the fact that Alger and Mayo are good friends now is really cool.

I don't get the humor here...he definitely was a member of the Hawkeye collegiate program, he definitely was a member of the HWC, and he has been such for all but the last 6 months. So what's your take...you don't feel like the Hawks mean their congrats sincerely (because from what they have put out they have no hard feelings towards Thomas). Or do you just find it funny that they hopped on after he medaled?

Gotta give credit where credit is due. The NLWC did a hell of a job of transforming a world Silver medalist into a world Bronze medalist.

he only lost one match each time. I do not see why people think Gilman is not associated with the Hawkeyes. people think of Iowa when they think of Gilman. I am sure the NLWC will try to take some of the credit for Gilman's success, which is fine and fair, but no one is discounting the impact being a Hawkeye had on Gilman.

On the greatest one session in USA Olympic wrestling history that John Smith said he could ever remember, a Hawkeye won a medal, another Hawkeye was an assistant coach for a medal winner, one Hawkeye was the head coach of the women’s national team, and another Hawkeye was the head coach of the men’s national team. It was a great day to be a Hawkeye!

Lmao well played. Fortunate his toughest competition was injured and Fix was off the juice. Congrats to Gilman though.
I think he got pissy when the HWC posted about him. Not the U of I. While rather needless on his part I kind of do see a big difference. He will never wrestle for another college. But he is currently not wrestling for the HWC which he could be. So I kind of saw his point in that.
If only there was a mechanism for you to explain what you meant.
Go through the threads when Gilman jumped ship. Then go through the Olympic trials threads and those related to Gilman. Then go through the Olympic games threads the past few days.

See, this is why people reacted the way they did to the LOL. You see a few butt hurt people who trashed Gilman for leaving and then act like the entire fan base felt the same way.
Also, I would say almost every Iowa fan would have wished him well and rooted for him against anyone other than Spencer if he handled his departure with more class. He chose to flame and a lot of people took that too personally. Even after all that, once he was wearing the USA singlet it didn’t matter anymore.
