HELENE Set to Devastate Several Red States

😂 I haven’t made many “bad” decisions…

Some of you liberals are disgusting.

What’s the real difference between some of you and MAGAs?

Hope all of our Florida peeps are okay and safe.
TBH, I haven't read this entire thread. Are there folks wishing for harm against our conservative Florida brethren? THAT would be disgusting. Aside from that, using real life examples to show where one's beliefs/opinions/ideologies miss the mark are not disgusting. Some people do not do well with hypotheticals or concepts without being directly involved.

These are some of my favorites, starting with…ya know…the actual OP:

Mother Nature is doing her best to teach MAGAs about climate change. Unfortunately for the non-MAGAs in Helene's path, Mother Nature doesn't have subtle tools in her toolbox.

I sure they won't need any federal aid afterwards either.

I hope their bootstraps don't get lost in the flood waters.

First step in the aid process: show your Democratic Party (or Green) voter registration card.

If you've been voting for deniers, screw you.

What about their children, you ask? Jail their parents for child abuse and find the kids better ones.

It's God's punishment for voting for Trump and treating people like s***

More Ashley Babbitts???

Love that!

I haven’t read it all either and while I don’t wish ill will on Floridians, I do have a hard time feeling sorry for them. They know where they live. If you don’t want to get burnt, don’t touch the stove.

I’ve got a secret. Another hurricane is coming.

Thanks.

Will be sure to remember that the next time folks living in tornado alley get rocked after years of not fully appreciating the obvious risks involved living in the Midwest.

👍

Absolutely, you’re welcome. I desire nor expect any sympathy from anyone if a tornado knocks my place out. I plan/insure accordingly and understand the statistical probability differences between a hurricane hitting a whole state on a regular basis and sporadic, geographically dispersed tornados.

Is it the same for tornados in tornado alley? As an aside, on an Aerial America covering Arkansas, they mentioned there was a massive flood there in the early'ish 1900s (?) that was the beginning of government/taxpayers helping out during natural disasters.

More a parody of wingnut talking points when a hurricane hits NJ or there are wildfires in CA but also pointing out that Republicans have opposed federal aid for blue states when disasters occur but line up like orphans asking for more when it happens to their own states.

Nope. Ron D. budgets and puts $500,000,000 away per year for emergency services. Just like a good conservative should.

We're good. Thanks for playing.
So I’ll be looking for him to refuse the federal aid and take care of all state, tribal, and local needs out of his fund. The rest of the US will say thanks.

Make sure you post that refusal here so I’ll know to send Ron a card.

I don't feel sorry for tornado alley either. However, I'll take my chances with rando tornados vs. massive storms consistently battering large land masses one after another, after another, after another.

Suffering. All part of the human experience.

I can agree with the above,.. at some point continuously rebuilding in Florida would get old.

At some point, even the wing nuts will have to accept climate change as a reason for these more frequent events????

The fund is for emergency situations such as hurricanes. He has staged hundreds of power workers all over the state to recover as fast as possible. Don't forget, it only took THREE days to rebuild the bridge to Sanibel Island last year when it was wiped out by the hurricane.

Let's not make this out as a bad thing, OK? He has a firm grasp on running the state and does what it takes to get back to normal as quickly as possible after weather events.

What color is New York???
How much money did it take to recover from Hurricane Sandy?

Of the $15 billion of federal grants appropriated for Sandy recovery and resilience, the City has spent $11 billion, or 73%, as of June 2022. The City has spent 66.2% of the nearly $10 billion in FEMA Sandy grants, and 92.4% of the $4.2 billion HUD CDBG-DR grants.Oct 13, 2022
Now, look at what NY contributes in federal taxes.

The storm surge, or rise in ocean water above normally dry land, could reach 15 to 20 feet in the Big Bend area, or just east and south of where landfall occurs. The National Hurricane Center is describing this surge as “catastrophic and deadly.” This zone could also see 10 to 12 inches of rain.

more here

You are a dumbass

It's already happened. When we get flooded in my town people in Florida and California get all pissy about us living in a flood plain. Some congress member in California made some comment about it. Our Republican mayor popped back off at him on national news saying, "We'll remember that the next time they are asking for money after a forest fire or earthquake. People in our city aren't saying that's residents of California's fault for living there." (paraphrasing but that was the general gist and he made his point.)

You think that is enough to cover the damage from Hurricanes in Florida each year? Sorry to break it to you, but that's pennies compared to the need. In 2023, Hurricane Idalia alone, created conservatively $3 Billion in damage.
