At a very general level, this election may well be/have been won and lost on the simple matter of discipline.
On Harris' side, she was disciplined enough to follow strategy and stay below the radar until she couldn't any more, only then stepped into the light in very highly managed appearances, and shifted toward classic "mensch" messaging at the end.
On Trump's side, death by a thousand self inflicted cuts, each seemingly designed to stop whatever momentum might have been building.
