Joe Evans, our sack leader, is listed at 246. Being lighter, however, makes him more of a pass rusher and passing situation specialist. I glad we are willing to take lighter and quicker D-ends for pass-rushing situations.
I will take a smaller, quicker, and faster DE in a passing situation over a larger slower one any day. He would be a situational player with his weight right now. That is ok.
HUGE difference between rushing the passer, and playing in coverage. Could move him around though at DE or LB in pass situations and send him to seek and destroy....
Isn't Logan Lee a redshirt Junior? I've seen a couple mention him about coming back. Is the thinking he could forgo his Senior season or thought he was a Sr?

Totally agree. Even in defending the run, I just don’t really recall Evans not holding his own. Plays with discipline, technique, leverage, gap integrity and pursuit real well. Or at least uses those skills/attributes to make up for bulk when possible. Parker Hesse and Nate Meier did as well.

Parker Hesse is a perfect example of the quintessential underrated Iowa football player… He wasn’t as big, but he was actually a better natural athlete than AJ Epenesa, and suddenly he’s in the NFL playing TE, & contributing!
Nope. Epenesa was a stud basketball player and won state in the discus, not to mention being a 5-star football recruit.

One thing Parker doesn’t get as much credit for on top of using cash is his DL rotation. Difference between him and Norm PP with more pass heavy offenses uses more rotations on DL and think part of reason we’ve been so good is guys are lot more fresh. Where use to be play 4 starters majority of game with few substitution now we see on 3rd drive usually 2-3 backups in. Started to see with raider 3rd down package move a DE inside and have guys like evans come in. Where I see bollers gets PT first like others have said see a lot of evans similarities start off as 3rd down guy.

Wow. Those are BIG differences on the times. That 5.04 fourty, and 1.79 10yd ET 32 vertical are what dropped AJ out of round one. Those are not at all in line with high level rush ends. Really amazing that Hesse bested him in EVERY single meassure. Thats really interesting, and no there not really close. There's a huge difference between a 4.87 and 5.04 40yd, 1.67 and a 1.79 10 yd, AND a 37in to a 32inch vertical. That says that by any measure Hesse was way more explosive then AJ.
6.5 sacks 2 FF and a fumble recovery this year for AJE… he’s doing alright. But yeah his combine shows why iowa had hesse starting over him… he was an athlete!
