Why do we put up such hopelessly non-competitive candidates? Is it guilt? Delusions? This is way worse than the Fred Hubble/Rita Hart disaster. The Iowa Democratic party is totally tone deaf. Congrats Kimmy.

I'll never understand the dems strategy with candidates like this. You can stand on the moral high ground and pat yourself on the back all day long for feeling good about the faces you make to represent your party. And sure, you can use the loss as a card in the future to try and prove your points. But second place is still first loser and what's more important? Winning or feeling good about yourself?

God, Kim sucks. To not even be able to put up a competitive candidate even in an ever redding Iowa is sad.

I fully agree. Hell I could get better numbers than her. I'm a minority Iowa Democrat. I would also lose in a landslide. 8 years of junk candidates. They then recycled Rita Hart who lost to 3xM in the Democratic stronghold that is Johnson County. Who remembers Patty Judge v. Grassley and others? Haha. Jesus.

To be fair, Hubbell only lost by like 5. DeJear is gonna get smacked though.

Iowa is a hard right state now, regardless of the Obama years. Franken is the best senate candidate we’ve had in a decade and he’s still a long shot.

We do this in Florida all the time. We had a very moderate female candidate (Gwen Graham) who was the daughter of a beloved Democrat Florida Governor in the 80s (Bob Graham) running. All signs pointed to her beating DeSantis. Out of nowhere, we nominated Tallahassee's small time but charismatic mayor Andrew Gilliam and then watched him barely lose to DeSantis. She would have won going away, against the guy now four year later, leading non Orange candidate to win GOP Republican nomination. Oh and the ex Mayor us Florida Dems nominated then gets caught drugged out in a hotel with male escort a year later and was two months ago was arrested as part of local FBI investigation into corruption.

As a life long Democrat, I can absolutely say in addition to all the nefarious stuff and the brainwashed cult the GOP has manufactured over last 25 years, another reason things are the way they are is sheer incompetence by the Democratic Party at National and State levels.

This country so needs a truly competitive neutral party who fits the center aisle. Take the good ideas from both parties and put them front and center. But the only thing the R's and D's can agree on is that that can never happen.
We have a very ignorant electorate… very few people actually pay attention and those who do most often only consume the media that echos their views. Most people vote D or R because they’ve always voted D or R or their parents voted D or R.
If you walked up to a random person and asked them 5 questions on how the feel on certain topics they might be surprised to find they actually more align with the other side or even be surprised to find the side they have always voted for has time and time again voted against their interests.

This is a combination of Iowa Dems on the one hand not being a well-run party for a while - only guy who’d have had a shot was Sand, and he clearly looked at the tea leaves and saw this wasn’t going to be a good midterm season. And on the other hand, Iowa as others have noted has simply turned hard to the right at the moment.

only hope I have is that economic news improves by November and MAYBE Franken has a shot vs Grassley.

Perhaps you should try a different approach. One that doesn't involve making fun of your opponent's previous medical struggle. You guys piss the middle off with these antics.

Democrats play nice and lose. If they ran cutthroat campaigns like Republicans do, we might actually have competent leaders in this state and country. Also if someone is willing to overlook the long list of scandals and failures because I called an alcoholic an alcoholic than they aren't really in the middle of the political spectrum.

You give me Governor Reynolds and I’ll raise you a Nancy Pelosi.

LOL. The Dems are great at running cutthroat campaigns.

Maybe Iowans are just rejecting the lefts agenda and ideas.

Lol. You supported (and probably still do) this guy:

You are so full of crap. And "previous medical struggle"? Riiiiiiiight. When it's a politician you like, it's a health issue. When it's a lib, it's a moral failing. LOL. GTFO.

I wish Pelosi was as strong of a leader as Reynolds. Kim ran off members of the Iowa GOP that didn't support her "funding private schools scam" and Pelosi campaigned for a Pro-Life, Pro-Gun "Democrat" in a Texas Primary, after the Uvalde massacre.

I thought Hubble actually ran a good campaign and came damn close to beating Reynolds. You're right about Hart though. And the problem with the Governor's race this year is that this was considered to be a sure loser. Sand was probably the option to make this competitive.

I would have hoped that the exclusive and highly reputable secondary school that you graduated from would have made you more empathetic.

Yup, it's not a competitive state or gubernatorial race. It's hard to justify throwing millions of dollars down a hole when there's little chance of victory.

The same situation will likely lead to Iowa losing It's first in the nation status as well.

I notice a common theme here, it’s people over policy when the left loses.

the left: we got our ass handed to us… we just had bad candidates. Our policies are sound and people really love us just not “that person.”

when elections are about personality the left wins every time. Obama, Clinton, are two examples. When it becomes about issues or policies we just need better candidates

No, the Iowa Democrat Party's inability to properly hold a caucus is doing that.

I am shocked that a black urban liberal with a French last name is struggling in Iowa.

Iowana are fvckibg stupid if you believe polling numbers...Reynold's approval rating is up but more Iowans think the State is headed in the wrong direction??

That doesn't jive!
Maybe they blame some other pol they like even less?

It's not my place to "admit" anything. If you believe he was drunk, provide the evidence to back up your claim.
You know as well as I do, that it was swept under the rug by the LEO due to him being the governor's son. But our retired citizens have the same opinion as I do.
