My predictions for Iowa at Penn State

125= 6-0
133= 6-3
141= 9-3
149= 12-3
157= 12-6
165= 15-6
174= 15-9
184= 15-13
197= 15-16
HWT= 15-19

The final score will be decided by 149, 165, and hwt. Iowa has to win all three to win the dual. I would rather lose a close dual next Friday and flip those toss ups in March, but that hasn't been the script lately between Iowa and Penn St. Friday night's team will be game, but another lackluster performance could turn into a 22-12/25-9 loss very quickly.

125: Lee pins Steen
133: RBY major Teske
141: Woods dec Bartlett
149: Van Ness dec Murin
157: Haines dec Siebrecht
165: Kennedydec Facundo
174: Starocci major Brands
184: Brooks dec Assad
197: Dean major Franklin
Hwt: Kerk dec Cass
Hawks lose 12-24

They have not pulled his redshirt yet and he has wrestled all the duals he can before it happens. Believe Cael said today that they still haven’t made a decision if he is going this year.
Very convenient so no one can call it a duck. I would almost guarantee he goes on Friday. We know the decision has been made.

My predictions with a bit of black and gold glasses on:

25: Lee fall Steen, 6-0 Iowa
33: RBY maj. Teske, 6-4 Iowa
41: Woods dec. Bartlett, 9-4 Iowa
49: Murin dec. Van Ness, 12-4 Iowa (coin flip)
57: Haines dec. Cobe, 12-7 Iowa. If they don't burn the shirt for Haines, I like Cobe by decision over Bear claw (15-4 Iowa).
65: PK dec. Facundo, 15-7 Iowa (18-4 Iowa if no Haines).
74: CStar dec. Brands, 15-10 Iowa (18-7 Iowa)
84: Brooks dec. Assad, 15-13 Iowa (18-10 Iowa)
97: Dean dec. Warner, 16-15 PSU (18-13 Iowa)
HWT: Kerk dec. Cass, 19-15 PSU (18-16 Iowa if no Haines).

Almost no room for error, especially against their young up-and-comers. Probably have to sweep those matches and avoid bonus elsewhere to pull it out. I'm most looking forward to the Kerk-Cass rematch. I don't think Kerk has jumped Cass as much as their All Star match suggested. I could see 97 and heavy going our way, but not predicting either yet.

I like him.
I would love to say I agree, but not a chance. I like Cobe a lot and have said that I think he has an outside chance at the podium if some things fall his way, but I think Haines is another level. Will be quite impressed if Cobe can pull this off. I truly think we'll be favored in 2, maybe 3 matches, and for us to have a chance guys like Cobe and even more so Murin are going to have to get on the offense. I like 25, 41, and 65, but aside from those three weights I'm just not seeing it until our guys show me they can take it to that level. I'm going to be there loud and proud with my black and gold Hawks hoodie showing my support and hoping like hell that we can have a slim chance at the end like WI just had with us.

My wife and I want to visit Nashville sometime, I’d like to ask you some stuff like hotels ( prices, where to stay ), maybe good food, music , drinks that aren’t tourist traps.
My friend, please drop me a note when you have dates on the radar and I'd be more than happy to give you some good ideas for you and the wife. Nashville is an amazing place to visit!! :)

Agree, if I had to assign confidence percentage on winning:

125- 100
133-0 to win and 25% to not give bonus.
141- 75
149- going with 45 as Max can't score vs decent wrestlers.
157- 50 vs Baraclough and 40 vs Haines
165- 60
174- 0 to win. 50 to not give up bonus.
184- 0 to win. 30 to not give up bonus.
197- 40
285-50

125 Lee FALL Steen 6-0 Iowa

133 RBY maj. Teske 6-4 Iowa
-Teetered on this one a bit. I could see Teske holding this to 3, but RBY will be pushing for bonus and is so talented. Ideally, RBY wastes a lot of time riding.

141 Woods dec. Bartlett 9-4 Iowa
-This will be a lot closer than many of us want, but Woods gets it done.

149 Murin dec. SVN 12-4 Iowa
-Absolute dog fight incoming. I think Murin finds a way to win a brawl. Coin flip.

157 Siebrecht dec. Haines 15-4 Iowa
-I don't really have a rationale for this. Weird stuff happens. I think Siebrecht wins a couple scrambles and/or catches him for some nearfall.

165 Facundo dec. Kennedy 15-7 Iowa
-PK will be in 2-3 times, but not finish. Facundo will either catch him chasing late with a duck or turn one of the scrambles into his own takedown. HR will be hot about stalling over this one and will have a case.

174 Starocci dec. Brands 15-10 Iowa
-If it's not Brands, it's 4 minimum. Nelson is hard to bonus, but won't threaten in this match. It will be a brawl though.

184 Brooks dec. Assad 15-13 Iowa
-Brooks is 0-2 in bonus for this match up and hasn't looked quite right this year to me. Very one sided decision here.

197 Dean dec. Warner 16-15 PSU
- Warner isn't wrestling well right now. Winnable, but not picking it. Not overly panicked about Warner though.

285 Kerkvliet dec. Cassioppi 19-15 PSU FINAL
-I think the days of Cass winning this match are over unfortunately. I put him on a tier below Kerk/Parris as the "best of the rest."

My wife heard it’s expensive, but you know how people bitch about nonsense lol. We haven’t finalized anything ( expecting a grandchild in May) but we’re thinking about it.
Any help is appreciated.

There is a path to victory for Iowa, but it will require a pin at 125 and win at 141 coupled with 3 wins out of 149/157/165/197/Hwt. If Iowa wins 5 weights with a pin at 125 they win this dual imo. Not saying I expect that to happen, but winning 3 of the 5 toss ups/ slight underdog matches isn't a ridiculous hope. We actually match up fairly well with them in a dual, hence all the toss up/ close matches. A tournament, now that is a different story currently.

Ok I’ll take a shot at this

125: Lee by fall 6-0
133: RBY by Dec 6-3
141: Woods by Dec gets screwed out of back points again. 9-3
149: Murin by Dec. 12-3
157: Haines by Dec 12-6
165: PK by Dec 15-6
174: Starcrap by Dec 15-9
184: Brooks by Dec 15-12
197: Dean by Dec. 15-15
Hwt: Big Cass wins the dual for us 18-15

Matches I feel pretty good about are 125, 141, 149 and 165. Matches we have little to no chance are 133, 174 and 184. That leaves 157, 197 and Hwt. We could easily lose all 3 or could win all 3. It’s going to be fun but for now I believe in our guns to get it done.

I would love for this dual to come down to Hwt. Win or lose that would be can't miss TV and great for wrestling as a whole. #1 vs. #2 decided on match 10 would be good stuff.

i don't understand why people are acting like Dean over Warner is a given.

what am i missing?
Dean has won the last 2 against him and Warner doesn’t look 100%. Warner getting bow and arrowed in Carver last year gives us pause. Warner hoping to win a one takedown or no takedown match by riding time. I think Warner can beat him but we’ve seen too many times where he plays it so conservative and gives up a late TD to lose, like against Braunagel earlier this year.

Depends.

If you're talking about Iowa fans it's mostly people frustrated with Warner's lack of offense and/or performance against top guys over the years and would rather expect a loss and be happily surprised if he wins.

If you're talking about Penn State fans, it's because they're all morons.

Hope this helps.

He hasn't been wrestling well and he's banged up. I think Dean would have to make a few mistakes for Warner to win. Warner won't ride him. He's in danger of getting ridden himself. And he struggles to finish and Dean is a good scrambler. It will be close because Deal likely won't attack. Go behinds are Warner's best offense, but eventually Warner will get impatient (like the NCAA finals) and take a bad attack.

Warner's best path to victory is in rideouts. He needs to stay extremely patient and not give Dean easy reattack or scramble opportunities. Hard to watch, but that's the path to victory imo.

I usually agree with your assessments, but I’ll quibble here and posit that going into deep water favors Dean, based on what I think I see with each guy’s conditioning.

Only as expensive as you want it to be. Lots of inexpensive things to do in Nashville. :) I’ll start working on some ideas…

I think your numbers are pretty good, though at this point I give JWAR 10%; he needs to show me something before I start believing just yet. And Kerk just looks quicker than Big Tony…probably give Cass 30%. Even though Kerk lost against Mich, I still think he looked better. Hope Iowa hammers really throw caution to the wind!! Would love to see a W!!
