*****Northwestern vs Iowa Game Thread*****

If you were mad at the officiating tonight, well, you should have been. Lots of grabbing, and a whole let of moving screens with knees extended into Iowa defenders. The technical on Fran was curious, because it came from DJ. He's just about the calmest ref that calls games in the Big Ten. And, he was well down the court. He also really whiffed on the charging call on Perkins at the 3 pt line.
That being said, he did Gasser a solid by escorting him back to his seat, and then returning a few seconds later to whisper something in his ear. This was right after the call on Connor for undercutting the NW player under the basket. That was a tough one. I don't think Connor tried to do anything, and I think momentum was working against both players.

How in the world is a second place Northwestern team a quad 2, while a last place Texas Tech is quad 1? Yeah, yeah......it's based on strength of schedule, but it really makes no sense. You shouldn't be rewarded for playing supposedly tough teams when you lose most of them.
Because the Big sucks.

Isn’t the 5 second clock still running though? That was my concern.
Clock runs after a made basket until 1 minute left in the 2nd half or overtime.
Five second rule says the ball has to be released towards the court within five seconds, doesn't say that it has to be caught.
Shot clock doesn't start until a ball is legally touched by a player on the court.
The 10 second backcourt clock doesn't start until a ball is legally touched by a player on the court or after possession is controlled from a rebound or steal.

So basically, they did everything exactly the way they needed to do to run the clock down as much as possible. NW should have come up and played some defense to force us to pick the ball up. This has showed up more in the NBA recently. Some people call it walking the dog.

Fran and his two predecessors lost a lot of games to NW teams that were much worse than this one. Of the best three players on the floor tonight, I think NW might have two of them. I can see why they are where they are in the standings.
Agreed, I was very impressed with Audige and Buie. Right off the top of my head, they may be the best backcourt in the B1G this season. They have work to do but I'm rooting for them to make the Big Dance this year.
