There's a trade-off ... because we still need LB-types on special teams. But, in terms of positional action ... we ultimately need some of those LB types to migrate to other positions (like TE, FB, DE, or edge-defender).Since we made the switch to the Cash defender, we do not get a ton of LB recruits per cycle anymore. I think it is more like 1-2 at most every cycle. So if we get 1 kid to fill a LB roll, we will be set. It is kind of hard to get used to for me considering how we were traditional 4-3 for so long.
Where is the trend heading ... more Michigan or MSU?Not over just not trending well.

The CASH is more comparable to a safety playing up in the box. Hooker, Belton, and the future of the position, Dejean, are naturally safeties. The CASH is typically a zone defender, who is good in run defense and short coverage. They also need to be depended on to blitz and get off blocks. For those reasons, it makes more sense for a safety to play the CASH.The CASH defender is essentially a CB who covers the slot ... but who can provide run-support like an ILB.
The CASH spot seems to need to have better cover skills than the average safety. Hooker and Belton are rather exceptional in that regard. The CASH is more comparable to a safety playing up in the box. I think you could certainly argue Dez was the precursor to the CASH position. The CASH spot seems to need to have better cover skills than the average safety. Hooker and Belton are rather exceptional in that regard.
Had we switched to this defensive set a while ago ... Jordan Bernstine would have been a great fit for the CASH spot too.
Although Desmond King played CB for us ... he would have made an exceptional CASH defender too.
Yep ... I concur. King possibly opened Phil's eyes to embracing that philosophy more fully ...I think you could certainly argue Dez was the precursor to the CASH position.
In 2015, in the Nickel packages, Dez would be the one bumping inside so Josh Jackson could man the outside, and I'd say that worked pretty well.

I like moving into Indiana. It seems we’ve been able to steal some pretty good talent out of there in the past few classes.
I want Herzog, and I badly want him. Could you imagine Herzog, Hinzman, Hasert, Livingston, and Craig on the offensive line? Every single one of them is 6’4 or bigger.
Depends on things. I personally would prefer he’d do it with members of the 2023 class, because those are the members of his class.Any chance of getting Kevin Kasper's son on campus for the weekend of 06-25-21? I realize he has likely been on campus before but it would be nice for him to meet a few of his future teammates.
Good point, I forgot he is a 2023 prospect.Depends on things. I personally would prefer he’d do it with members of the 2023 class, because those are the members of his class.
He’s such an explosive athlete. I really badly want him.Priority target. We need this kid!

Iowa will probably only take 3 oline guys this class. Smaller class and took 5 last cycle. Maybe a 4th if they could land Hinzman after some other guys jumped on board. He would have a spot on the bus no matter what.I want Herzog, and I badly want him. Could you imagine Herzog, Hinzman, Hasert, Livingston, and Craig on the offensive line? Best case and being most likely right now I’d think would be Craig Herzog and Hysert
They have offered him. They are up there. Seems like an Iowa Minny battle. Former high school teammate of Yahya Black. With all the things I've read I believe that Barnett is very, very high on Craig. He looks like the best athlete of those three. He's athletic with quick feet and a good burst off the ball.
Wll minny eventually offer Hysert?

Did the NCAA officially announce the end of the dead recruiting period? Or is this in anticipation of that ending May 31. Kids do need to be allowed to make official visits. I will be super glad if this is the case.Looks like some officials for June 25-27th are being scheduled.

Will be a cyber coup if we can get him.You guys feel good shout our chances?
Sounds like we have a fighting chance. He could be the Davidkov commit of this group, where he wasn’t expected to pick us.You guys feel good shout our chances?
They extended the dead period through May 31st like you said so I think this is just anticipation of it not being extended again. Maybe schools have gotten word it won't be extended.Did the NCAA officially announce the end of the dead recruiting period? Or is this in anticipation of that ending May 31. I still think Iowa will offer Buddenhagen. I always love getting in-state lineman.Any list with Hinzman on it would be great. I agree, I want Herzog. Talent wise I think he's just a notch below Hinzman. Worried about that Stanford offer. It's possible Iowa offers Krogh, the kid from Ballard.
If that kid picked Kansas I both feel for him for the 4 or 5 years of pain and losing and also admire him as he would have to be a huge fan.
Kansas should have ran out and hired Paul Rhoads. He would do a team like theirs good right now. And he would probably entertain it.
