*****Offical 2022 Recruiting Thread*****

You really have to wonder what the thought process is as it relates to Nebraska with these kids. Are they just willing to gamble that the Cornhuskers get a good coach after Frost is inevitably fired following the 2021 season? What if they don’t fit the new coach’s system?

Seems like a huge and unnecessary risk to me.

With the McLaughlin commit to ISU, I was looking at what’s remaining for recruits in Iowa. Not much in the 2022 class compared to 2021.

Anyway, whoever has ranked Iowa HS recruits for Rivals over the last 15 years (see link) should find a new profession. Some big names behind names I’ve never heard of. Several 1st and 2nd round picks behind guys who never played a down in college.

It’s official now. Iowa needs to get
out some more LB offers.
Even with Wallace rotating LBs more and packaging them more than we have in the past ... we're still mainly just featuring 2 ILB spots (with the LEO spot now "packaged"). Thus, one of our biggest need for LB-type bodies is on special teams ... and to help keep the level of LB-play high.

That might be part of our difficulty with LB recruiting these days.

We certainly need to recruit some LBs for the class ... but I'm curious how the coaches perceive the "need."

What are the odds Nebby would be able to hire a good coach. Recent history would suggest the odds are not very good.

Look at the '21 class. We are not having trouble recruiting lbers these days.

Which might explain some of the Iowa high schoolers looking toward ISU in the 2022 class. I get the vibe that McLaughlin might have had some resentment about the rumors Iowa backed off from him earlier in the recruiting process only to renew interest in him later.

Doesn't really matter in the big picture, as Iowa is still "leaps and bounds" ahead of the Clones since games are won and lost at the LOS.

Yes ... we've been landing good LBs. However, I was simply indicating that it is potentially a slightly "harder" sell to land LBs when your base D only features 2 starting LBs ... and you're coming off a recruiting class where you landed some high-end talents at LB.

On top of that ... given what transpired last summer ... there is still the possibility that other programs are fiercely performing negative recruiting practices against Iowa. That can have some impact as well.

Both Imming and McLaughlin are ISU fans growing up. IMO Imming is a good player, McLaughlin not so much. Iowa wasn't spending all that much time on the latter.

Agree and lber is not a priority for this '22 class. I'm sure the following year will be different.

I imagine that the coaches thought that both McLaughlin and Imming were guys they liked ... and guys who would add value to the program. However, part of the offers could also be tied to the politics of maintaining positive relationships with the high school coaches. If the guys really want to be Hawkeyes and act fast enough ... then I'm certain that we happily would have taken Imming ... then shut down our LB recruiting.

I think that the coaches like the in-state guys who really WANT to be Hawks. So if McLaughlin committed and demonstrated that he really "wanted" to be a Hawk ... then I imagine the Hawks would have been perfectly happy with that arrangement too. However, I also would have measured the "want"-factor by not bombarding him with constant attention ... if he remained on the proverbial line ... then he'd be a keeper. If he jumped ship to a program that was giving more "love" ... then that would have been a sign to the coaches that he didn't "want" to be a Hawk enough.

Mind you ... this is largely speculation on my part. However, it seems consistent with the psychological profile that the Iowa coaches tend to target in their recruits.

In my uneducated opinion... there's three difference makers in the Iowa high school 2022 class... Xavier, Graves, and Deyo.

But that's mostly based on what they're rated, nationally.

The logical conclusion to this TE offer is the staff might not be feeling all warm and fuzzy about Riley-Ducker and Raridon.

But that's just me.

I understand Raridon. I wouldn’t worry too much about MRD. I think we have a very good chance with him. And we need 2 TE’s this cycle, since we didn’t get a single one in the class of 21.

I don't think that's unreasonable, but that's not the case here. Kid's gonna blow up BIG TIME, considering Michigan offered right after we did.
