*****Offical 2022 Recruiting Thread*****

If we can’t get a kid that grew up an Iowa fan that also plays TE then something is very wrong. Especially considering we can’t seem to get any other highly rated TE recruits in any of the other classes. Something seems off.
You have Fant and Hock go early in the draft and it doesn’t help our recruitment of TEs? I don’t know how anyone would NOT find that at least somewhat odd.

Yes, we end up finding solid players like LaPorta but that’s not the point.

I think if we stop shitting the bed against teams like Northwestern and Purdue and we actually go perform well in the title game (win or lose), better recruits will be more attracted.

Ok, so you’re saying the players that host these athletes lie and haven’t said a word to any incoming recruit before last years events? KF has that kind of power and control? Context to facts you spit here as gospel.

Please tell me why players in a current toxic environment wouldn’t let other players that are potentially coming to Iowa know about it for the past 20 something years. Why are there black coaches on the staff who have been here long term and continue to be hired here if the environment is exactly what you’re stating.

Nobody knows the truth either way but an accusation does not make it factual and for you to be on here and say it’s fact because somebody said so and the other side hasn’t said anything or the other side you don’t believe doesn’t make you right and everybody else wrong there is a process.

But if what you’re saying is true there should be absolute backlash and we should know who hosted which players and why the hosting players didn’t warn the new recruits of these major issues going on for decades. Accountability Has to go both ways
I never insinuated anyone lied. I said having a ton of former players say that some coaches are racist/bullies, having a $20M lawsuit hanging over the football program, a few transfers away from the program, and recruits and parents saying the racial issues impacted their decision to not attend Iowa is having a negative impact on potential recruits. It’s pure speculation on my part, and you’re free to disagree. I directly quoted players and parents saying it had an impact. Tyler Barnes tweet mentioning negative recruitment, and predictions on a ton of the guys that were on campus last week for officials going elsewhere or cooling (MRD, Deyo, Keller, Stokes, Carter) leads me to believe that kids are not as keen on Iowa as they would be under normal circumstances.
Do I think Iowa coaches are horrible racist people? No. But that accusation is tough to scrub off once it comes out. I’m not going to argue about the validity of the accusations because that’s a whole other topic that has been beaten to death, plus I wasn’t at practice or in meetings and neither was anyone posting here.

I still find it weird they put 2 TEs in the first round and can’t seem to recruit one.

The majority of five and even four-star athletes have egos and have been told they are the greatest since middle school. On top of that, highly-talented players believe they can become NFL players at any successful school. Iowa has a unique culture. It is atteactive for some; not so much for others. The coaches work hard to find the best players who want to be part of that culture. Everything about the recent MRD narrative reeks of BS. Iowa is what it has been for 22 years now.

I’ll add to this by telling you a little story. I played small college hoops in the early 2000s, but our program was run by a former D1 star. The shadow that these coaches cast over their guys looms large. Our program was run exactly like a D1; study halls, 3 hour grueling practices, film, team meals, coaches checking every classroom making sure the guys were there and sitting in the front row, awake. Anyone putting in that kind of time and effort wants to play and part of getting PT (especially at a place like Iowa) involves being a “good soldier” so to speak. If coaches got word that a guy was telling recruits to not come to my small school they would flip out. I actually hated the school and the environment and ended up transferring, but I never said anything to any visitors because doing so could jeopardize my good standing with coaches.

A lot of posters here will feign ignorance because they don’t want to admit that there is/was a racial problem at Iowa last year. All of those guys will say there were zero racist situations and it was only ever “tough love” despite numerous (black) players saying otherwise.
It’s a tough pill to swallow for some, and I liken it to the same types of folks that defended JoePa and other similar situations. You see a program you love and just can’t fathom that it’s not some perfect paradise or something.
Like it or not, the racial issues we had last year are having a huge impact on our recruiting. It’s ok to admit that. Things will get better, but it’s a bit ridiculous that some of these dudes are puffing out their chests like it doesn’t matter and how we don’t need a highly rated recruit because we’ll somehow land the next Hockenson from down the road.
Yawn. More BS that is full of hypocrisy. When the caucasians have a BET network, when the caucasions have an affirmative action, etc, I will listen. otherwise I will laugh at your dumb thoughts. 95% of these issues are media/ political created. the rest is genuine and needs to be dealt with

Are you joking right now?

I wouldn’t worry too much about TE even if MRD doesn’t commit. Iowa develops that position every single year and there’s a lot of young talent on the roster already. The position I’m worried about is RB. Seems to be a real lack of depth behind Goodson currently and the recruiting isn’t going well either. Who is Iowa currently looking at? This past freshman class seems like a reach, two walk-on’s and a kid with 15 career carries for the worst team in 4A. Hilson is a great athlete but it takes a lot to learn the position.
I agree with this as well. I can understand having a hard time getting high end WRs coming into the Iowa system. But why does Iowa struggle to get higher end RBs? Wisconsin can get them but even with our OL history and consistency of running the ball it seems difficult getting anyone in here. Goodson was a good pickup.

Please, let’s not making a recruiting thread political.

Too late!

I can see fear/playing time etc. but I’m current market I don’t feel that holds weight.

Iowa addressed and very few left. I think if I’m looking to go someplace I judge it off my experience not what someone told me it would/should be. To many sheep out there.

I can see both sides but these players do spend alone time and take out and about as well with recruits. You’d think even in private they would throw a heads up about how Iowa “is”

Whole things is a he said she said no one wins and ultimately looks like Iowa is losing because of this. But, if these players cannot form own opinions and choices not the type I’d want at Iowa anyway. I do wish all the best to them.

Here’s a thought - isn’t it possible that Auburn may have offered him something above and beyond (think NIL) what Iowa could have? I mean, they may not be the Auburn of old, but they are still SEC. Maybe it has nothing to do with NIL and maybe he just wants to go there. The timing of this is interesting though. Remember, this race issue was brought up then perpetuated by some folks in another thread that got deleted. Might be arguing against ourselves here unnecessarily. I get Barnes’ tweet may stir things a bit, but this may not be it here. Unless of course I missed something buried above.

When a kid chooses a school other than Iowa it always has to be something nefarious because fans simply can't perceive legit reasons why that kid would want to go to a different school.
I laughed because it’s true to some extent. Not all fans, but nuts like us who post on fan chat boards tend to include the extremes. 🙂

At this point, it probably puts more pressure on Yelverton and Lachey from the 2020 class to produce. Would also expect the staff to be pretty aggressive with portal TEs.

Well our TE recruiting is not looking great.
I see what you’re referring to (Keller) & damn, seems pretty crazy this is the situation.

No TEs in last cycle and can’t land one this cycle. Is there a chance Riley-Ducker is still considering the Hawks? I know he said he’s already made up his mind and is waiting for the 7th.

Hopefully Keller was told MRD is Iowa bound, therefore he went ISU….

Good get for ISU. Weird recruiting deal all the way around with Keller. MC is doing a great job recruiting. We need to deal with it and move forward. I haven’t been following much most of the last 2 weeks but ISU has momentum. No 2 ways. BTW for anybody that thought we wouldn’t struggle through this cycle has their head in the sand. I give props where due and ISU is doing a great job. I have also said many times I think MC seems like a good guy and very good coach and their players (BP, Rose, Kolar, Downing, etc) seem like great kids. We need to move forward but I give kudos to ISU on this class. Now back to ignoring and fishing. More peaceful!

I have said It is a recruiting win for ISU. I do wonder about a possible scenario. The concensus regarding Keller is he has been wanting a Wiscy offer. I wonder if a combination of that and the staff's confidence in landing MRD caused them to cool on Keller. Also wonder if Keller will stick with ISU if Wiscy decides to offer. Time will tell.

Great points. I have no doubt nor do ISU fans think if Wisconsin offers he flips. I posted on here earlier when it looked like he was going to Iowa he would flip is Whiskey offers. But who knows.

I will say quite funny their recruiting guru said he must suck cause Wisconsin didn’t offer and now today said the best TE recruit in ISU history. Another person said “great to see Iowa getting scraps from someone who we pulled the offer from.” Today same person it is a monster get and will be one of the best ever. Really weird.

Has a lot to do with it actually.

Trieu doesn't put in Crystal Balls unless he's very sure. ISU will fight, but we have a good edge with him right now, and Dotzler being almost a lock to Iowa will do nothing but help those chances.

Like I said. Dotzler going to Iowa had nothing to do with Keller. You guys keep falling in love with those crystal balls though😂

Things change. Trieu dropped the info on Keller looooooong before there was ever any doubt with him. They're still way ahead of the other recruiting services.

ISU has 11 commits and are ranked 43rd nationally...not that great. Iowa has 7 commits and are ranked 49th nationally. Plus Iowa got a highly ranked kicker to walk on. Is MC really doing that well? If Iowa can get some to fall their way this could end up a solid class. But yes Keller is a good get for them.
