*****Offical 2022 Recruiting Thread*****

Good luck to the young man, but I certainly would have choosen the business end of that deal, and not to mention what the WUW podcast has to say, it seems like Iowa has a pretty strong family connection.
No mention of any rumored academic issues. If none are present, this might turn out like the Vance kid from CR.

Some families become bitter at things like that.

I do not know anything about his high school coach, but this is the first time I have heard someone say the Iowa program was like a business instead of a family. Usually, we hear about the family atmosphere being the reason why players choose Iowa.

Iowa's practices are far more regimented. They get a lot done and don't mess around much. I suppose if that is a turn-off for a recruit, they probably don't belong at Iowa.

Sounds more like the family is making excuses if Iowa, indeed, backed off.

Either way... the way PP coaches, we'll get someone better.

Iowa already has graves in this class. Have 2 red shirt frosh with van ness and black getting lot of reps this year and one of 2 starters is only a soph. In Lee. Speaking of Council Bluffs DT most people right now forget about Logan Jones who is hurt but penciled in 2 deeps out of spring ball. Lot of promising young talent on DL especially at DT where unlike this year setting Up to be a position with experience and depth next 2-3 tears.

missing out on deyo won’t hurt us. As for the article most if not anyone are going to mention grades and possibility of not qualify at this point on a high school kid especially a fluff piece like the registers did. However I wouldn’t be shocked if the kid is playing ball at Iowa Western next year either.

Campball has proven that he will recruit the "high risk" kids in the past. I guess in his position, the risk is worth the potential reward. If they don't pan out, no one remembers. If they survive, it's a resurrection story.

The two most notable successes would be Young and Vance.... one with legal issues and the other with academics.

Probably being a poor sport after Iowa moved on from him.

Iowa is more like a "business" insofar that the players are expected to embrace the grind. Doing football in the Iowa program is expected to be the "focal point" of each players "job." Of course, Iowa's S&C do try to make some of the off-season workouts competitive and "fun" ... but ultimately, it's still about everyone taking strides to improve.

However, apart from the bit about "embracing the grind" ... the interaction between the players and coaches is much more of a family-like environment. They all care for each other ... and they have each others backs. Everything I've ever heard about the program has indicated that it very much IS more of a family environment.

Consequently, the linked article frankly "smells" fishy to me.

This Coach Kommrad is likely just an Iowa State guy I assume.

How easy a couple statements from a coach can affect a recruit’s thought / decision-making process. Geez. See for yourself, Deyo!

I hope the Hawkeye fans around the Lewis-Central program give that asst. some grief for saying it’s business vs family.

The article feels like a lot of reasonable people are questioning the Deyo family decision and they're trying to justify it.

Oh, well. He'll be in the portal in two years.

I was able to watch Deyo play in the LC game v. Indianola. Honestly wasn't all that impressed. Definitely a big kid, space-eater in the middle of the DL, but he didn't look that tall compared to the other players, he didn't look to have all that great of a motor on him, he'd give up on plays and walk/jog towards the action if it moved away from his part of the field. He definitely was able to get some penetration on several plays, but not nearly as many as I figured he would being such a highly-rated recruit. He was less impressive as a LT. It got to the point where LC had to give him help and double-team the Indianola DE because he was beating him.

Obviously he's a good player, I just expected him to be much better based on his ratings.

Is Indianola a stellar team? Or was Mr. Deyo just overmatched.

Indianola definitely a good team, a good solid group, but they don't really have any standouts, especially on the OL. The RB may be the only one who could get FBS interest, and I'd doubt it'd be P5 interest. A guy with Deyo's ratings and offers should've been blowing up the interior of that OL consistently and it didn't happen. He got some penetration at times, but nothing consistently and again he didn't have much of a motor, gave up on a lot of plays if the action wasn't coming his way. I noticed he also was taken out pretty frequently especially in the 2nd half. He'd be in, then I'd look on the next series and #71 (another big kid) was in his spot on the DL, then the next series he'd be back out there. Not sure if he was hurt or just gassing.

Iowa may have dodged a bullet on this one?

After they have a bad losing season he might just change his mind.

Don't do this.

Sounds like Auburn just canned their WR coach after 4 games. Things getting messy down south? Could we see a TE coach let go soon?

High risk kids dont do well in special teams.

ISU definitely has a lot more family type consoling happening. Misery brings a family together .Nebby is probably very close knit family type environment.

He’s a high school kid.

He's a 4* recruit, the #3 ranked player in Iowa and the #38 ranked DL in his class in the country. Revisit my post, I said obviously he's a good player. But what I saw was a player with not a very good motor, who gave up on plays that didn't come right at him, and who got good penetration several times but not consistently against an OL with no FBS prospects.

I agree on the limited tape I’ve seen(not an expert by any means) not impressed.

Also that group picture at KF house big recruiting weekend looked short and heavy. I’m sure Iowa pulled the offer. I do wish him well but from what I’ve seen he’s not a top recruit.

I wouldn't be shocked if the Hawks re-evaluated their recruiting needs after the spring. After seeing the emergence of young guys like Van Ness, Jones, Craig, and Hurkett over the spring ... on top of already being high on guys like Lee and Black ... they may have determined that given the size of Graves ... maybe they determined that they were already "full" at DT. Consequently, maybe they decided that they had more need at DE instead?

You have to remember ... Griffin Liddle was a pretty impressive DT prospect from the '21 class. The very fact that they already had him shift to OL points to them feeling pretty comfortable with who they have at DT.

Given the perceived strength of personnel at DT ... let's entertain the possibility that the kid really is a possible academic liability. The Hawks have been known to go after guys like that before ... however, usually those guys have ridiculously high ceilings ... guys like Nixon.

I’m high on a guy like Jeremiah Pittman. True frosh, already 3 bills, and a very good motor. Mike Daniels starter kit.
