It's like when someone says, well, we develop better citizens, or we have more fans. Those are great peripheral goals. He’s saying, “I want best chance to win it all. So, this is what we’ll do….”
He’s NOT saying, “How do I promote team loyalty?”

I'll take Cass every single time, Steveson can go wherever he wants as long as it isn't PSU 😅For the record, I am not sure where I stand on the whole transfer / over recruiting thing. To me it partially sounds like 'you get what you earn', and as long as nobody is pulling schollys for not performing, i doubt anyone was guaranteed a starting spot.
At the same time, Cassar should have realized that if he was the second best guy at that weight not only in the room, but maybe in the nation, he wouldn't even get the chance to prove it. If upsets didn't happen, we'd never watch sports.
I also don't mean to fault him for his loyalty.
Hypothetical to Iowa - if Steveson decided he wanted a change of scenery for his last year and fulfill his destiny to wrestle for the Hawks, would we (fans) say no? Would TnT? I have yet to hear of a single person who doesn't love Cass, and I don't think we'd want to lose him. And taking GS would feel dirty, and would be about the same upgrade points wise PSU got with Dean (though Cass should be a contender next year, assuming GS moves on)
You must live for that kind of stuff these days.Maybe Real Woods can go to PSU and BB or SVN transfer to Iowa and we'll use our superior coaching to develop them to beat Real Woods! Similar to Teske knocking out Hildebrandt, what a sweet feeling that was.
You’ve obviously never been to Renovo. That’s not right outside anywhere… 😂kind of funny that people are making the perry commitment a big deal. not to say he's not a hammer. he is. but there was zero chance he was going anywhere else. he's from right outside town, trains at M2, and i think his mom works for PSU. no brainer.
This is hilarious, I don't care which side of the fence you are on. LolInteresting way of putting it, though I think there is a distinction to be made.

Your not-so-novel “Recruits will take notice of Carl’s disloyalty and stop going to PSU” idea has been a talking point here for a while. It is aging about as well as “PSU will fall back to the pack once Taylor and Ruth graduate.”
So yeah, you should probably be laughing. It is funny stuff. 🤣
Except that isn't how financial aid at Ivy Leagues and other top academic schools work. While the Ivies don't give out athletic scholarships, they do give out need-based scholarships, so that if your FAFSA determines you should contribute $0 to your school costs, then you will get a need-based scholarship covering your cost of attendance (meaning tuition + living costs). This is why if a student from a low-income background can get into an Ivy League school or equivalent school, it is actually a much cheaper option than going to a state school. For example, at Stanford, if you get in and your family's gross income before taxes is $68,000 (the US median) and haven't really saved for your college or retirement, then you would expect a need base scholarship of $74,000. This is why the average total student loan debt out of Stanford for graduates who took out student loans is only $11,500. Problem is, people from low-income to lower-middle class backgrounds don't know this so often don't even apply.OK, lets keep it Real Wood you all? I understand probable not from the F*** guys because then they wood have to admit the truth which we all know now. The great kale has been operating by a totally different set of rules which allowed him before NIL to pay wrestlers whatever it took.
Above someone asked why would wood go to F*** land. please ask yourself the same question about Dean? The answer lies in the $$$$$. Ivy schools cost a lot! Most kids must take out loans and go into great dept. How does this pitch sound to you?
"Dear Maxy, woody, You know that 250K of dept you currently have? Well the great fale can take care of that for you!!! + free skool too!"
You might ask, WHY you do not see any F*** staters in the portal??? Why would there back ups at 197, 285 not hit the portal? My guess is you will see them with plenty of free eligibility years? The kid Mason Manville filled in a few times this season. The F*** st announcers, and I kid you not, said he has 2-3 MORE years left. I am pretty sure he was in school when I was and that was 30 years ago!!!!
Now the bandwagon F*** guys will have all sorts of good reasons for this. Red shirt, grey shirt, black shirt, covid and on and on. Honestly, I wanna say he committed in 2016. How do you stay in school this long? how do you pay? OH yes, he is in the ROTC, year right. They will just keep paying for the kid to be a career back up at f***land.
I'm sure Taylor takes care of recruiting on Carl's behalf if it's needed.no, not really. a kid is welcome to verbal whenever they want. we've actually seen this scenario play out multiple times with psu. a kid verbals early and then when recruiting actually starts, cael doesn't want them very badly in the end and they go elsewhere (haines, wittlake, busiello). don't think that happens this time with perry basically already a part of the program, but we'll see.
You are right decision isn’t about loyalty, it’s only about the “money”.Your delusional. BB was not an all American and SVN hasn’t proven himself yet. Real Woods was an AA this year. Are you telling me that you wouldn’t recruit him on your team. this is the future of the sport. Whether you like it or not. In this instance this decision is not about loyalty. I understand where you are coming from about Beard and Seth. But there is a reason PSU is dominating. They are continually looking to improve at every weight.
This is Anthony Cassar in 2015. He added 9% to his weight as an NCAA champ.
This is Spencer Lee in 2015. He added 14% to his weight as an NCAA Champ. What is he on?
Your argument is laughable.
MIGHT WANNA CHECK THOSE #'S AGAIN!?!?!? It was Cassar HIMSELF who proclaimed he was weighing 240+! It was also him who said he gained 40 pounds! I would also bet, his listed weight was NOT what you claim. I seem to remember 238 weigh in which would make sense since he said he was weigh 240's.96 x 2.2 = 211.2 . Checks out
some D1 athletes choose to stay at a school and actually earn a degree and graduate,No it’s not. Most athletes choose to stay at a school and try to earn a spot. Most DI athletes also expect to have to earn a spot every season.

Now he was also at 197 for like 5-6 years at F*** st. Then granted an additional year. so regardless of what he was in 2015 where he again apparently had one of those "great kale gains!" In years after, he was lighter, Hmm, go figure????
Happel never earned a full time starting spot prior to Eierman getting here. I'm sure it's happened but I can't think of any big name recruits that were forced out of a starting role due to a transfer in recent history. Walk on Paul Glynn being replaced by Desanto is the only starter I recall being replaced by transfer. Whether they should be looking to replace anyone who doesn't finish high AA has varied opinions.Iowa fans that are taking the moral high ground on transfers and recruiting over guys are full of $hit. Not one of us cared that we brought in Lugo/Eierman over Happel.
The fact is, we wish we were getting all of the recruits and transfer, and frankly, there Iowa has done pretty well in recent years.
If your #1 goal is to win at all costs, you welcome the best guy into the room regardless of who you are recruiting over.
If being loyal to your guys, creating great young men etc. are the #1 goal, you need to start being happy with top 5 finishes in March. You aren't winning titles with guys that develop into mid AA's as upper classmen.
They replaced Beard who was a 7th place finisher and did that while wrestling injured. A coach could look at a young wrestler and think he was injured and I know he can improve. I can take this 7th place finisher and make him an NCAA champion. Or….a coach can say that young kid wrested well even when injured, but not well enough, so let’s that this former finalist and make him an NCAA champ. I know which coach is wanna wrestler for.
And that has been my point all along. This transfer might not be replacing an AA, but that’s probably because their AA was wrestling up a weight and was a pretty damn good recruit. But, screw him, we got someone else.
Do people not think that doing this over and over is ultimately a bad strategy? If so, I’m happy to be the only one standing on my island.
20 pounds is possible naturally at that age. Steroids seem like a stretch, their guys just look like normal college athletes.A lot of stupid shit gets thrown around on these message boards and I typically just shake my head and ignore it. But something about your repeated accusations of kids using steroids is really getting to me.
Any chance you are willing to stop posting about that line of thought until there is actually anything of substance to it? Please???
coping mechanismHow is it possible you look at PSU’s success and claim it’s a bad strategy?
Like Snyder, Cassar is a converted 197-pounder and light for a heavyweight, weighing somewhere in the 220-pound range. What both wrestlers lack in beefy stature, they make up for in athleticism and speed not common at that weight.MIGHT WANNA CHECK THOSE #'S AGAIN!?!?!? It was Cassar HIMSELF who proclaimed he was weighing 240+! It was also him who said he gained 40 pounds! I would also bet, his listed weight was NOT what you claim. He may have been cutting 20 pounds from the off season, to make 198.20 pounds is possible naturally at that age. Steroids seem like a stretch, their guys just look like normal college athletes.

Those athletes aren’t going to accept that treatment anymore. I doubt the strategy holds for another DECADE. LolInteresting way of putting it, though I think there is a distinction to be made.

I know, that was implied by my answer. He may have been cutting 20 pounds from the off season, to make 198.
Heck if I stay away from the "all you can eat buffets", I could lose 20 also.
Well, Karl won’t be winning any comportment awards anytime soon so he’d better be content with those national titles. I’m guessing his reputation will be stained for a century or two.How is it possible you look at PSU’s success and claim it’s a bad strategy?
That might be the truest statement ever. You’ve obviously never been to Renovo. That’s not right outside anywhere… 😂
Sensible. Amazing.20 pounds is possible naturally at that age. Steroids seem like a stretch, their guys just look like normal college athletes.
Like they won...now they need to win hawk fans approval too? Or have to defend the school from us? Whole school is permanently stained to the majority of rational people, it's a losing battle hombres.Man, while reading the last couple threads I had to look up and see if I was on the right forum.
You keep on fighting the good fight PSU fellas, this is absolutely ridiculous, I certainly hope we don't have this many Iowa fans on your board.
You haven’t figured it out yet. Jokes on youSensible. Amazing.
Well since I have been involved in the strength game for more then 40 years. i have a pretty keen eye for these things. You had puff daddy Brown, and the other upper weight started with a M(?) So IF you have a way to have ANY of your current F*** staters submit to an Olympic style test for PEDs, please let me know?
I'll pay if they pass, the great Fale can pay me 10K each when they fail! LMAO
More lies. Are you really in Iowa somewhere or sitting in a Russian hacker pod in the Motherland? Stop making sh#t up. I’m not understanding the steroids argument in this case. Plenty of football players put on that much and more in an offseason. Not having to cut weight can really do wonders.More lies. How big are the big guys at the 2019 NCAAs? - WIN Magazine
Photo: Penn State’s Anthony Cassar and Minnesota’s Gable Steveson are seeded second and third at the 2019 NCAAs after reaching the Big Ten finals two weeks ago. The Nittany Lion weighed in at 228.2 pounds while the Gopher checked in at 257.8 two hours before the start of nationals in Pittsburgh...www.win-magazine.com
What do you figure Warner's walking around weight is? I bet he weighs more than 220 right now. And we KNOW he's not juicing!I’m not understanding the steroids argument in this case. Plenty of football players put on that much and more in an offseason. Not having to cut weight can really do wonders.
🤷♂️ idk. Creatine does wonders, you can go hard twice a week on every muscle. Is that a PED? Steroids seem unlikely in this case. What do you figure Warner's walking around weight is? I bet he weighs more than 220 right now. And we KNOW he's not juicing!

response was not about the coaches it was about the athletes and their motive….being the money that induces them to transfer and where to transfer. Those athletes aren’t going to accept that treatment anymore. I doubt the strategy holds for another DECADE. Lol
