Man I was skeptical but it sure feels like there are some PSU fans on here confirming but just arguing "so helping a small school is bad now?"
Yep — with a goal of dealing only in facts, the “why” is immaterial to whether the school or the individual benefited.Does the why matter? Helping a small school with facilities helps that program. If Iowa is so vulnerable (and paranoid) that helping a small program is construed as a threat to them, maybe some self-reflection is needed
You know better than that. There is one guy swearing it is true and everyone else accepting his word for it, then talking about logical conclusions. The thing I am most confident about is that anyone who truly knows anything is not on message boards talking about it. And that certainly includes me.Man I was skeptical but it sure feels like there are some PSU fans on here confirming but just arguing "so helping a small school is bad now?"
I wouldn’t read it that way. No confirmation. Just an “even-if-true” discussion about the merits of such a hypothetical act.Man I was skeptical but it sure feels like there are some PSU fans on here confirming but just arguing "so helping a small school is bad now?"
I think we are perplexed is all. First that Cael has so much influence that he could get donors to give money to UNCO and Allirez. Second, that PSU Donors have so much money to throw around that they would give it to another program and another team’s wrestler. And finally, if at all true, that PSU donors helping a small school program keep wrestling is somehow destroying wrestling as alleged.Man I was skeptical but it sure feels like there are some PSU fans on here confirming but just arguing "so helping a small school is bad now?"
I don’t.I find the whole "my team is virtuous, your team is morally bankrupt" claims to be silly.
I come at it from the opposite perspective. On Intermat I have been a vocal defender of Iowa's transfer practices. If the athlete gets paid, then good for them. The NCAA treatment of the athletes that make them so much money was awful and needed to change. Change is messy though, so how it comes about will always seem sub-optimal to some.I don’t.
I get that’s where we’re at, but that doesn’t take away my right as an American to bitch aloud about it. And call it exactly what it is.
I was the first person this board calling out TNT for going after guys not in the portal, screaming from the rafters that it would get the program in trouble and that it was wrong.
I STILL don’t like it. Which is why I think it’s fair to call out Carl and DT for doing anything remotely the same.
And hell, @Gobblin is only saying it as a statement of fact. He’s not going scorched-earth and calling Carl and the PSU boosters names I would have if I had this information.
Get off my lawn I guess, but I hate this sh!t and will continue to call it exactly what it is until I stop being a fan altogether (which will never happen)
Asked and answered. Gable wasn't hoarding talent financially and influencing possible transfers just to keep them off other rosters. He got guys that wanted to be Hawks and wanted to do it his way, and developed them into champions. So “good for the sport” and “good for the athlete” is what you’re stressing, arguing that the Penn State program is good for neither. Two observations: (1) Good for the Sport: Where were the Iowa fans concerns when Iowa was mopping the floor with all the other programs during Gable’s tenure? I guess dynasties are okay as long as they’re your dynasty. Apparently dynasties by other schools do great damage to the sport. (2) Good for the Athletes: If a wrestler wants to develop into the best wrestler possible, how better to do it than in the room where the competition is the keenest? Iron sharpens iron, as they say. If the wrestler’s sole focus is to get on a college mat as soon as possible, the Penn State room is probably the wrong place for him. And today, given the ease with which a wrestler can move to another school, even outside the portal windows, a wrestler who feels he is no longer in a room that is best for him has options.
Last HB post (upcoming surgery on arthritic hands), so load a clip.Zero theory. A fact.

It’s easy, if weak, to accuse men you don’t know and never have contact with of actions you can’t prove. No, a virtual fan pleading that a coach’s complicity ‘is fact’ doesn’t make it so. Perhaps the UNCO benefactor acted alone or had ties to the school. You have no clue. But, hey, keep thinking Cael orchestrated a diabolical plot to keep a kid off your team so Iowa wouldn’t get closer than 105 points from his prior team title. While at it, cling to more baseless accusations of Lions unfairly juicing to gain advantage. Then trot out innuendo tying Cael’s staff to a rightly incarcerated, preferably dead pervert and pedophile. Don’t forget to whisper like teen girls how Big Bad Cael keeps stealing recruits from everyone’s dance card.
Or simply be men, and not the toughed-up virtual kind who make “head up your ass” posts. Grin and bear it till the grin gets real. Gripe and moan (see me and my Steelers/Pirates for expert tips), sure, but avoid childish slaps. If possible, tangibly help your Hawks improve enough to challenge such a tyrant. Angelo and Bo are better weapons than 1-year-burner-guns, but your quick fix Warbucks is certainly useful in a NIL/portal world. Ever check his methods, by the way?
That’s it. I’m done here (thank God, right?). Take the last word. Okay, safety off. Now fire away.
No one cares about your opinion. Liar!I don’t.

Right. And that’s why Barraclough stayed until he graduated before going to Utah Valley, getting on the podium and having nothing but good things to say about his experience at Penn State. And that’s why Alex Facundo remained with the team long after Levi took his place in the line-up as a true freshman. And that’s why Dave Evans remained on the team through his senior year, after beating future AAs in college tournaments but never making the starting line-up. I could go on and on but I hope you’d have caught the theme by now. Just check the transfer portal for the Penn State guys who have made the decision to leave this year. None of them are starters looking for greener pastures. Most of them are late in their college careers and are now seeking a shot at the mat at a new program. I’d bet, to a man, none of them feel that their time at Penn State was anything but positive.Asked and answered. Gable wasn't hoarding talent financially and influencing possible transfers just to keep them off other rosters. We've learned one big thing about Cael, if you aren't the elite of the elite/multi time champ type almost immediately, he has no time for you and you're going to be replaced asap.

We are well aware that psu has a large alumni base. They're the reason all of the psu victims got paid off and their fb team got a slap on the wrist.Viewership of the NCAA championship was up around 70% this year. It was one of the top 3 in the last 15 to 20 years. A dominant team or player is usually good for the sport. PSU has a huge alumni base where many fans who would not watch wrestling do so because of PSU
PSU being a villain to everyone else is also good. I know a lot of “stick to the champ” non-PSU fans who watched or attended to root against PSU.
Tiger Woods did that for golf. McEnroe for tennis. Fans loved them or hates them. PSU won’t sustain this forever. But it makes it more entertaining right now IMO.

That assumes Penn State is not paying him a big fee. Oh, that’s right, only Iowa pays. Everyone else just loves to wrestle for their coach (sarcasm). When everyone who has ever wrestled for Iowa loves their experience and loves the Brands — the problems have all come after graduation when guys think things are owed to them. This one is crazy. I could see Ryder and or Mirasola both beating him out for the 184 spot by next year or he could start. Neither one would be surprising to me. What an insane roster they’re putting together lol.
Surely Iowa could pay him whatever he wants to be happy with either going back down to 174 or beef up to 197.
Bro, these kids are all high school level world champs. What is he coaching? Put them all in a room together and they will undeniably get better. You just heard Lilledahl explain how he learned to get out of Ono’s undertook…..from wrestling him every day. I could coach a team full of high school world champs to a national title. Nobody said he can’t coach but he is not the reason they are winning
Accept for Kerk's torn ACL, Staroccis's ACL, hand/wrist, Nolf's ACL, Van Ness ACL, Shakur Rasheeds everything,IMO the special thing is that their guys don’t seem to get hurt and they appear to graduate college with fully functioning bodies. Iowa State can’t keep anybody healthy.
Theyve had a lot of injuries but their great depth makes it less noticeable.Accept for Kerk's torn ACL, Staroccis's ACL, hand/wrist, Nolf's ACL, Van Ness ACL, Shakur Rasheeds everything,

Too late. That dastardly Cael is just too slow to keep up. Or do we blame @TwoJoints for not texting the donors directly? Are you able to legally drive? If so, how do you do so with your head up your ass?
If you have Caels guys numbers, please send them a text and have them save Little Rock.
Now that TnT have apparently signed both Little Rock’s remaining stars, Nasir Bailey and Jordan Williams, out of the portal, do you care to address how your current wrestlers at their projected weights must feel about being replaced? Or is what you described inapplicable to the Iowa room?Asked and answered. Gable wasn't hoarding talent financially and influencing possible transfers just to keep them off other rosters. You must be slow if you think this is a "gotcha" statement. Now that TnT have apparently signed both Little Rock’s remaining stars, Nasir Bailey and Jordan Williams, out of the portal, do you care to address how your current wrestlers at their projected weights must feel about being replaced? Self reflection is not in this board’s wheelhouse. This whole thread is a gotcha statement.
PSU picking up one guy from the athletic behemoth that is the Ohio State University is a travesty for college wrestling.
Meanwhile Iowa has now gutted Little Rock, Arizona State and North Dakota State of their top talent over the past 3 years.
And you must be blind if you don’t see the hypocrisy of much of what’s been posted here in light of Iowa’s own transfer portal acquisitions. When Penn State acquires a wrestler via the portal - and the Welsh transfer is not even confirmed - it’s “hide your wives and daughters, hide your groceries too”, but when Iowa’s portal acquisitions decimate ASU one year and Little Rock the next it’s “nothing to see here…they were leaving anyway”. Just sayin’.You must be slow if you think this is a "gotcha" statement.
I think the definition of hypocrisy is now "normal". But you do realize, don't you, that 83% of the people on here didn't recommend you hide your wives because of the possible Welsh to PSU transfer? To the contrary, we expect pics of your wives, not that you hide them. And you must be blind if you don’t see the hypocrisy of much of what’s been posted here in light of Iowa’s own transfer portal acquisitions. There was no transfer portal and NIL then. It’s just impossible to compare these eras outside of some very general takes. As I posted earlier, Gable wasn't poaching from other teams and recruiting over top 10 guys and returning AAs every year. He developed his roster year over year like no one ever has. Good for psu on this run, it's impressive. But there's right and wrong in everything.
The term is bleacher thinking and it’s literally from observing sport behavior which applies to any “group” vs others dynamics . But yeah. And you must be blind if you don’t see the hypocrisy of much of what’s been posted here in light of Iowa’s own transfer portal acquisitions. "decimate"... 😂 you're trying sooooo hard...And you must be blind if you don’t see the hypocrisy of much of what’s been posted here in light of Iowa’s own transfer portal acquisitions. The word decimate originally came from a punishment inflicted on Roman soldiers. If they were slacking they would kill 1/10 soldiers to motivate the rest. So if you want to be super literal if Iowa grabbed one starter they decimated the team, two, nope. 😂😂😂"decimate"... 😂 you're trying sooooo hard...
So what you’re saying is PSU decimated Minny, Cornell, and Cal Poly in recent years? The word decimate originally came from a punishment inflicted on Roman soldiers. Just saying.
Could be, you'd have to check each year, or you could say those recruits decimated their previous teams? All depends on the timing I guess. According to "the rules" (are there rules these days?) you can't contact first. So what you’re saying is PSU decimated Minny, Cornell, and Cal Poly in recent years?

However the original meaning didn't mean total destruction like some think.
And there are already people calling for DeLuca and Luddington to take redshirts before even stepping in the room. It’s 2025 not 1985.This whole Rocco Welsh situation is the perfect example of why it's stupid to redshirt someone who is clearly the best option at his weight. All you're doing is throwing away a year you could've used him. You never know how long he's going to be here and assuming you'll get all 4 years eventually is foolish. Tom Ryan really screwed this up.
I hope all of you people who thought it was a good idea to redshirt Angelo Ferrari know what you asked for. He was clearly the best option at 184 but you think it'll be better to save that year on the back end in 2029. . . if he's still here. Good luck with that.
