Tea leaves say Teske to PSU

Teske took his ISU visit so as to not make things awkward because he wants to keep training at the CRTC since it is the best closest training option for him.

If true, and not saying it is, then it is every bit as much on the kid and his family for buying such a line of crap as it is on Cael for offering it up.

One is an 18 year old young adult making a huge life decision and the possibility of moving across the country to pursue a dream.

The other is a 40 year old man who has been coaching and competing at the highest level for 2 decades.

I put the blame on Cael a little more than I do Teske or his family.

I don't. It's clear that he wasn't going to come to Iowa anyway if he bothered to listen. If true, the support system involved should tell Cael to take a hike. I have no problem with coaches telling this to committed kids, but telling it to an uncommitted kid is pretty weak. That being said, I have no idea if this is true, and don't really care. Teske likely wasn't/isn't coming here either way.

But come on...they should be able to see what a phony move that is and it should make anyone with perspective realize that's not the place a Fort Dodge, Iowa kid should be--especially given his supposed affinity for Iowa and Iowa's track record in the light weights. If that's my kid I tell Cael to pound salt and keep considering schools that don't play such a stupid game.

Valid point.

Yes, he was. Guess what he was told and therefore, why he didn’t?
RBY is committed to PSU - If Cael doesn't want him visiting Iowa after he commits to his program, I don't think thats a big deal. Kirk does that with the football program..
Now, if he truly said that to Teske, who isn't committed to PSU (at least not publicly) than that is a problem.

Understandable with RBY, he was already a psu commit. Either you're committed or you're not. Stand up coaches (see Iowa Football) in other sports take a similar approach.

Unsigned top level recruits hold the power up until the moment they sign on the dotted line. They have the ability to call the bluff, if it doesnt work out, they have numerous great opportunities available. This holds true even if verbally committed. My unsolicited suggestion to recruits is to investigate all aspects of an organization to their full extent before signing the NLI, don't get bullied into something you're not comfortable with, typically leads to future heartache.

I generally agree with this. Maybe that's what we are missing here...is he a silent PSU commit? The hole in that theory is we are almost a month from signing day. Not huge reason to keep things silent at this point.

I just don't understand how life long Hawk fans would let a coach treat them like this and then still go there. I kinda get it if you are a middle weight and you think that is where you have to be right now. But their lower weight results should not garner putting up with this type of treatment. There are so many different scenarios where Teske gets 4 years in the lineup at Iowa. Probably more than when PSU recruits over him next year.

I tend to agree. One is a kid who sees stars in his eyes. The other has been at his job for a while and knows a thing or two about persuasion.

Many investors got fleeced by Bernie Maddoff. While the victims can take some of the blame for their own bad judgement, I would not place blame equally on Bernie and his victims.

Exactly. I'm pretty sure that was posted here as to why RBY cancelled his visit at the last minute. But I agree with Spooner, that is on the kid/his parents for not seeing through the BS.
But then you have no idea about his family and living situation so it’s about the supposedly mature coaches and individual athletic departments. As for another post suggesting it’s ok after a commitment...this no visit was in place before then. Plus cael has no concerns about bringing in another wrestler for the same weight after an athlete commits.

He was given an offer too good to refuse.

Karl and Brands do definitely have a different style of recruiting. Karl has no issues in recruiting over another recruit and has thus far only benefitted from that philosophy. Brands seems to go after a guy and be very loyal to them and not recruit over them. Even Hidlay may be an example. Seems as though he is very loyal to those recruits saying "you are my guy" and not recruiting others at that weight (e.g. Brooks and others). Sometimes that may come back to bite him - especially when "his guy" decides to go elsewhere [I don't think the Renteria/Mejia/Teasdale situation fits this criteria as it seems as though those guys chose Iowa, not necessarily the other way around]

I do not think this is so unusual. I remember years ago, coaches would recruit a guy and tell him he had until the next morning to make a decision or they were pulling their offer. If a coach needs an answer, he needs an answer. How long should he wait? What is the difference between that and a kid saying, "yes I want to come to your school, but I want to look at other schools"? The coach says, if you are still looking, then so are we. I am going to offer your money to someone else." It forces the kid to make a decision and lets the coach know where he stands with the kid. It may not be soft and fuzzy, but life is tough and when money and people's future success is involved, there are expectations and pressures.

I remember years ago, Illinois offered, Ramos, Morrison, and Sam Moore (I believe that is right - he was from Ohio) a full ride each and told them the first one to accept would get the money and the others would have their offer pulled. (That one did not work our so well for the U of I)

Never underestimate the hatred Karl has for the Hawkeyes after being bitch slapped during his days coaching @MooU.
There is some hatred, but man it is flowing from the HR towards Cael.
I would like to ask a question.
It is obvious why HR and fellow Hawk fans are so obsessively loathing enviers of Cael, Penn State and their collective run of success, but with Ohio State so distantly ahead of the Hawks for title of second best program in the B10 why no fixation on the Buckeyes?

The optimist in me wants to believe it’s because Tom is a former Hawk and even though he’s not in Iowa fans still want to see their former guys do well but I’m just spitballing

What's with your fixation about Hawk fans having a fixation with Carl and PSU?

It’s fairly obvious why Iowa fans might feel the way they do towards cael and his recruiting methods as opposed to ohio state. What isn’t as obvious is your fixation and your need to be on and posting on a hawkeye site.
