The CC Show....

If I'm 90 and somehow still alive.. I wonder if I'll be sitting around talking about Clark and how she was one of the single greatest athletes of all-time.. while im doing that, I wonder if I'll remember that one dumbass Joe from that messages board who always made a fool of himself
Bro, she turned it over a lot in her first 5 professional games against a tough schedule. She’ll never recover.

Joe and Cheryl Swoopes are on a very lonely island together lol.
It’s almost sad how pathetic Swoopes has become. She got pulled from the broadcast on Sunday and then she ‘leaked’ private text messages between her and Clark that were evidently supposed to prove that everything is cool.

It amuses me how some people watched her first few games and decided “Well, I guess this is her ceiling. There’s no chance she’s going to improve even after she’s had a few weeks to practice with her new team. That whole unprecedented college career was just a sham.”

And then we had assholes like Geno Auriemma saying she’s not built for the physicality of the WNBA, she’s too slow to get away from the physicality of the league, she’s got the wrong skill set for the league, she’s on the wrong team, and her fans are stupid, delusional, and disrespectful.

How clueless do you have to be to give an analysis on a player's rookie season on June 16 when the season doesn't end until September.

Very odd and dumb.
The UConn delegation has been pretty volatile on CC - Sue Bird has been a big proponent for the most part. I like her a lot. DT soured on CC at some point but started in 2023. The common denominator for all is: "you are not part of the great great club until you have won an national title". Which is easy for them to say...

The thing is, he’s not clueless. Geno probably knows more about women’s basketball than all of us on this board combined. He made those comments out of spite. I think to some degree he was still bitter about losing to Iowa in the Final Four. But mostly I think he was offended by criticisms of Taurasi. DT is like a daughter to him, and I think he took it personally when Clark fans felt CC should have been chosen over DT.

Reese shoots poorly; she collects lots of boards, but she has a terrible shooting percentage that hurts her team.

Not unlike early -season CC, who turned the ball over time and time again, costing her team lots of games.
Once she adjusted and had better TO numbers, her team has likewise won games.

In fact, early season Reese had better metrics than CC did.
We can give AR the "early season ROTY".....For cumulative performance and value added to their team let's just all agree its CC running away.

I haven’t seen those texts. Of the two who do we think is more savvy with social media, CC or Swopes?
CC either is wise beyond her years or has an amazing publicity team and it’s probably both. She has stayed on message, stayed above the fray and just stays classy. That probably annoys Swopes and others even more. They keep jabbing at her and she doesn’t respond how they want her to. It’s funny to watch the old guard get all sensitive and emotional while the youngster just keeps winning every exchange

Winning by refusing to even play their game.

A very Sun Tzu masterful approach.

"The supreme art of war is to subdue the enemy without fighting."

They get to her, but she's able to control herself.

I was watching the Taurasi and Bird analysis when we played UConn and they both made comments about how the whole logo 3 thing would have never been allowed under Geno. That he would have reigned her in big time. I just got the impression that they were a little bitter that she was allowed to have the freedom she had and felt like she would be reigned in once she got to the W. Now part of my take away could be projection for sure. But that was just the impression I came away with.

Some of it might be a little saltiness over Caitlin having a better college career than Bueckers. I think my favorite DT comment was when Bird asked her which one she would draft #1 (which was kind of an irrelevant question since Bueckers had already announced she was coming back to UConn). Without hesitation DT replied “I’m taking Paige. Next question.”

Bird tried to point out the CC effect on ticket sales and merchandising but DT just shut her down and refused to even listen to it.

I mean, I get it. She’s repping her alma mater. But let’s be honest here. If you’re the GM of a WNBA team and you draft Paige Bueckers instead of Caitlin Clark, you’re fired before the next team in the draft can sprint to the podium to announce their selection.

It’s about one hour until Clinchmas. Las Vegas leads Chicago by 16 and Phoenix leads Atlanta by 15. Both games are at halftime. If both scores hold up, the Fever are guaranteed a playoff spot.

If you have NBA TV, Megan Gustafson is matched up against Angel Reese.

So you are able to look things up.
Go find the ‘in consideration’ leads to ‘probably makes the team’

Last 6 Olympics days from final game of NCAA championship game and first game of basketball in the olympics.
Average 119.5 days
2024 112 days
2020* 113 days
2020 was over a year

I just read an article, and do you suppose CC's start to the season had anything to do with the good teams and defenses she faced? Did your stats take that into consideration?
She also played weaker teams - her performances were not substantially better against them.
(unless you consider the Sky one of the "good teams" back then)

Now, against the "good teams", she is playing lights-out better. The numbers clearly indicate this.

I just googled and in 2004 the Olympic "tryouts" were in Colorado Springs from February 19-27. Diana Taurasi was on that team as a rookie. Do we actually believe she attended that tryout? Be serious. There is zero chance Geno Auriemma was allowing her to leave the team for 8 days during the season.

Ask the coaches back then.
Seems like they didn't want "rookies" trying out then, either. (Kind of blows up the "they held the tryouts so CC could not attend", don't it?)

There were other tryout camps besides that one. The third and final one was in April. Taurasi and two other prospects were invited to the final training camp at the Colorado Springs facility. So two days after playing her final game for UConn she went to Colorado and participated in the camp and played in several exhibition games. Then on May 12 she was selected to the Olympic roster.
Ergo: She did try out.

In a year when there was a longer gap between college FF and Olympics.
Weird.

Don't recall anyone saying this.

Can you link those posts or news stories?

I do recall people claiming she would need time to adjust to the higher-level game (which was almost universal across all WNBA players at the time, who all claimed they went thru the same)

"When she gets it, she has elite skills that are going to help her," Auriemma added. "She needs to be on a better team, and she needs experience."
