One was benched. He got his pocket picked.
I love Toney but no chance hes the starting pg in December.
Frans playing some kind of motivational game between the two pgs IMO.

Regarding Pat, other than the occasional help block or tipped ball steal, I don't expect that he'll ever play defense well. It's just not part of his psyche. Not sure what many of you expected. 118 points is a crazy big number against anyone. We will score a lot of points this year and be very fun to watch on the offensive end. Captain obvious I know. @RocknRollface is pretty much right about the Center position. There will be games Josh O will be useful for his big body but guessing he will see 8-10 minutes a game. There will also be nights on the road w/our defense we will get punished if we're not scoring 80 pts. Those of you expecting Pat to all of a sudden become Dennis Rodman are going to be really upset this year. He's a finesse player who likes to get up and down the court but he's never going to mix it up. Enjoy him for what he is or don't. I understand both ways as a fan. Think it's going to be a fun season. Lots of weapons.

Some players have innate competitive and toughness instincts Jess Setttes, Ryan Bowen, and Greg Bruner are former Hawk forwards that come to mind. The extra energy and hustle made them special players IMO. At the opposite end of the spectrum you have Patrick McCaffery. 25mpg/3.0-3.5 REBs - that's just about all you're going to get from him over the course of a full season. He could probably double that production with decent effort on the boards but he won't.Regarding Pat, other than the occasional help block or tipped ball steal, I don't expect that he'll ever play defense well. I loved/love those 3 players you mentioned but they are completely different types of players than PMac. Tyler Cook could have been an AA bringing down 10 RB's a game & being a defensive force with his athleticism if he had that innate competitiveness/toughness/instincts like those guys. Unfortunately, there are a lot of players that don't have that kind of gear - Tony Perkins does and that is why he is going to be extra special and a fan favorite the next two years. Some players have innate competitive and toughness instincts Jess Setttes, Ryan Bowen, and Greg Bruner are former Hawk forwards that come to mind. But they gave up 72 points in an exib. game! Not sure what many of you expected. 118 points is a crazy big number against anyone. We will score a lot of points this year and be very fun to watch on the offensive end. Captain obvious I know. Think it's going to be a fun season. Lots of weapons.
Agree. I think we’ll see some situational runs at the PG spot, but expecting majority of min at the SG.Not starting point but he is a great fill in for some back up point minutes when needed.
We had several breakdowns, but look at Turnovers and rebounding. That tells me defense was not bad. First 8 minutes was cringe worthy however. Truman had some good shooters on their team and they made tough shots. Credit to them.41.5% shooting for the game for Truman St….pretty decent defense by the Hawks right?
I thought he was a bit distracted for whatever reason? Did not show a great deal of energy either. JMOJust looking at the stats Pmac 1 rebound in 23 minutes.
Im aware.One was benched.
It makes no difference either way.Guess I’ll trust Fran and the staffs judgement regarding Tony at the point over the usual suspects who spew their great BB knowledge to all on this board.
Wouldn’t this board just be so much better if everybody withheld their opinions?Guess I’ll trust Fran and the staffs judgement regarding Tony at the point over the usual suspects who spew their great BB knowledge to all on this board.
I think that would be excellent. I'll start first.Wouldn’t this board just be so much better if everybody withheld their opinions?
You talking about me? I know we had an interaction on the topic but don’t remember saying anything like thisI think that would be excellent. I'll start first.
I opined earlier on why Fran might be starting Sandfort as opposed to Ulis. I suggested that it might be due to his less than ideal long range shooting. I was informed that Ahron and only Ahron would dictate whether he plays or not. I guess Fran has no say in the matter so I was way off base. Therefore I would like to retract my opinion on this matter and in the future defer to those who truly consider themselves experts on all things Hawkeye basketball.
Nope. You talking about me? I know we had an interaction on the topic but don’t remember saying anything like this
Bowen looked like a deer in the headlights in the first half. He settled down some in the second half and had decent minutes.I was only able to listen via audio stream in the first half only, no video.
I'm interested in people's perspectives on how Bowen and Dix looked?
Thanks...
You've had years to watch P. McCaffery & you still don't know what kind of player he is. Maybe you'll get mad that Rebraca isn't a three point shooter too. Some players have innate competitive and toughness instincts Jess Setttes, Ryan Bowen, and Greg Bruner are former Hawk forwards that come to mind. Dasonte really settled down in the second half. His drive to the baseline wrap-around bounce pass to Filip for the bunny was a thing of beauty. When he hit the jumper from just inside the 3 pt line, there was no hesitation. The form, arch of the ball, and snap of the twine made me think of BJ's shot.Said it earlier in the thread but
Re: Bowen, smooth dribbler in traffic it appeared, which we haven’t had much of in Fran’s time. Defense will need improvement, which is why I assume Ulis will be ahead of him at first.
Re: Dix, looked like he belonged to me. Was amazed that he looked as fluid as he did after the injury. Better athlete than I expected and lankier too. Tough to judge his defense in limited minutes.
Bowen looked like a guy with a lot of skills who is not very strong and not used to physical play yet. No clue on defense either, which isn't surprising.I was only able to listen via audio stream in the first half only, no video.

So kinda like Joe T ?mixed bag but you can see the talent...not worried
If Mulvey’s still on par with the walk-ons from a minutes/usage perspective by the end of the year, then I’d be shocked to see him return with Freeman coming in. His minutes tonight were a bit concerning
Trying to recall the last big man who ended up being a significant contributor under Fran without playing two years into college
No, I'd say almost opposite strengths. So kinda like Joe T ?
True - he did play ~10.5 mpg as a true sophomore though and he had the unique circumstance of being relatively new to basketball. Gabe even acknowledged that early on in his career the staff was very focused on helping him just understand the game of basketball at a deeper levelGabe O didn’t play much
