****W Illinois vs Iowa Game Thread****

He just needs more minutes. He is pressing too hard and not being aggressive enough. And Fran is too quick to pull him.
Hmmm...so when he makes a mistake, then compounds it by fouling in frustration not once, but twice, you think rewarding that teaches him how to handle it better?

He has the talent, just needs the confidence.

Yeah, I feel like KM is going to be a topic of discussion with us all year 😂 he plays hard just needs to be smarter with his opportunities. Even his 3rd foul was frustrating to watch. I thought he finished strong though

Unless Joe Toussaint becomes a reliable scorer, I can see his minutes diminished to a point that he could enter the portal after this season. Speed is supposed to kill but in Joes case you need other skills to survive in college basketball.
He's neither a great defensive or offensive player at this time and Iowa needs both if they are to make the NCAA tournament again.

I think pulling him after a mistake compounds his frustration and makes him timid and second guess himself. You think he doesn't know what he did? Basketball is a game of rhythm and its hard to find one when you play just a couple minutes at a time. Different players need to be coached differently, what Fran has been doing with Kris isn't working. Not the first time he's had him on a short leash.

When a player is thinking about his mistakes instead of just playing he needs to sit. Period. Kris came back in with a better frame of mind and started reacting. The Kris I saw for most of the second half was much better.

What a shame that Kris wasn't allowed to develop more last year instead of watching Cmac, CJ snake, and JBO running around. Now he continues to be in Frans doghouse even though he is clearly a top 3 player on this team. Fran needs to let him freaking play and give up on the Connor experiment already. Kris will fill up the stats if he just gives him the minutes to grow.
More proof of this is you can hear Frans psycho scream when Kris turned the ball over. Rewatch this part of the game. It is right before Kris has the Alley oop slam. I don't hear him screaming any time Jbo, Patrick, or Connor turn it over. Or with Connor any time he shoots which is a turnover.

Agree for the most part but you must have not been watching last night when Fran yelled at Pat for two minutes straight.

Mohawkeye, you are thinking strategically at a higher level.

The lineup at end looked the best, Keegan, Kris, PMAC, Ulis, Perkins. Throw in some backup minutes for Sandfort for PMAC for better 3pt shooting. Sandfort actually plays better defense than Pmac.

Backup minutes JBO, Rebraca, and a sprinkle of CMAC and Mulvey and you have the rotation down. The hockeye line change up only makes sense if the 5-starters are sleep walking. If Kris is not ready, that is on Fran...Kris should have been playing last year.
