We'd be ranked in the top 25 if not for missed FGs in BOTH 3 point losses

If our kickers had made both (entirely makable) FGs in the IA St and Illinois games, we could be 5-1 and ranked in the top 25.

At the very least, both games would've gone to OT. And Illinois would've been playing from behind the entire 2nd half, which could've put more pressure on them and forced them into mistakes.

Losing Shudak was hands down the biggest loss from last year's team. Can't overstate how important it is for KF team to have a good kicker...Hawks have been blessed with many over the years.

The kick at the end of the ISU game was not a gimmee for anyone. It was wet and windy as hell. If he made it, the game would have gone to OT. Why do you think they win in OT? Ditto Illinois-it would have been 9-9. Illinois ran the ball well and had a mobil QB-they had every advantage if the game went to OT. The biggest "fail" in the Illinois game was SP throwing an easy TD in the ground on the screen. That was a 4-point swing and was the difference in the game.
And with their offense, they shouldn't be ranked even if they had stumbled into wins in both those games.

Can't argue with your premise, but both losses represent the microscopic margin for error Iowa has playing Kirk's brand of play not to lose vs. play to win. Great kicking has kept Kirk out of the dumpster fire he is currently in. How many possessions did they have last year where Jones had a stellar punt return, the offense did nothing (went backwards in some cases) and a promising red zone opportunity turned into a 40+ yard FG?

Lol. Overtime? How do you think this offense that can't move the ball anywhere on the field would possibly fare well in overtime having to start at the 25? What percentage of drives did they go backwards in the Illinois game? Defense and special teams keep gifting them golden opportunities and they can't cash any of them in. A quality kicker is important but when you lose or struggle to win single digit games that's not your main problem.

I’m proud to say this thought has never entered my brain. No one gives a rats ass if this team is ranked.

I get your point.
It seems to me that whenever Iowa does miss a "makeable" fg over the last decade we invariably lose that game.
It's Kirk-ball. Fortunately we have been blessed with good kickers.

Thank you for your input Kirk! And yes, we know you won 10 games last year. Would you like to comment on your soon to be 7-8 record over the last 15 games? I didn’t think so.

Didn't we miss the Illinois fg because our moron OC called a reverse that lost 10 yards and turned a high percentage 35 yd fg into a much lower 45 yard one? The same reverse that had also lost 10 yards the week before at Michigan?
No no no, that's all part of KFs philosophy, to call that reverse there. You have to blame him ultimately for that call. Brian should be absolved or at the very least be handed a lesser condemnation, especially considering we don't know who for sure called that play.....................................................

J/k, it was Brian all the way. Kirk should get no blame for some of the dumbass calls Brian has made over the last two weeks regardless of what anyone wants to say about Brian "just sticking to Kirk’s philosophy".........f*** outta here with that nonsense on social media.

Iowa has a crap offense. That is why they are 3-3 and not ranked.
Nah, it's because our opponents do not adapt to how bad Iowa becomes and do not go out of their way to do everything they can to make sure Iowa still wins, regardless of how good they are, and whether they deserve it or not.......

Making the defense and special teams be perfect to cover for Kirk and Brian's complete worthlessness on offense is such a chicken shit approach. But here were are in year 2 of it....

I hope the media asks Mr Sensitive if he's aware that they played 14 last year and could have won 12-13 if his offense wasn't one of the worst in the nation

We would be 6-0 if we had a top 60 fbs qb.
Maybe…………….NOT! O-line would still defuse the Offense.

whole lot of dumb here bud, sorry but it is

drew stevens is 6 of 7 and his only miss was a 45 yarder! and if you expect perfection only from our kicker, then well....(i'll just say nothing :) )

It's not his fault KF chose the wrong kicker to start the year!!

i won't even discuss the whole OT expectations of one of the worst red zone offenses I've ever seen ;)

This is an awful take…for a freshman Stevens has been great…our defense and special teams are forced to be perfect to even give us a shot to win because of our absolute horrendous offense.

it’s disgusting

Disagree, mobile servicable qb we would easily have beaten ISU and Illinois, Michigan, we were in the game late in the fourth.
Mobile qb can do wonders for an average line.
Possibly.

It’s kinda like how many dropped passes that would have kept drives alive and possibly led to scores and wins. Who knows?

Speculate all ya want about Qb mobility and it’s benefits but a leaky line that seems destined to produce procedure calls, holding, missed assignments that blow up any chance of positive yards at crucial times and turn 3rd and short into a punt more often than not is a huge problem that needs to be fixed before consistent Qb play is going to exist. JMO.
