Several years ago, totally...he's almost 60 now though.
yep. turned 59 on March 22
Several years ago, totally...he's almost 60 now though.
That's kinda what I thought when I saw that 😂Really? How time flies……
Where did I say that? I threw out a name that was brought up in 2006 & 2010. I also think its interesting that he is from Lone Tree. Who was the last basketball coach who had Iowa ties anyway? Your shtick is getting old and insufferable.Lol. “This next coach must have Iowa ties! We simply cannot go for a coach without Iowa ties!”
Yes it is all his fault. He is the coach. He has not recruited well enough, he hasn't developed multiple guys at once, he hasn't demanded his teams play defense. It would make sense IMO. Jack & Patrick leaving so nothing keeping him here in IC. Iowa basketball has gotten stale - not all Fran's fault. I'm sure he can sense the apathy both inside and outside the University.
If you're going to mention an Iowa connection, why not look across the river to the Badgers?Who would replace him? Matt Gatens? Devries, who would be choice just went to West Virginia.
Yeah, not sure how I feel about a 35 year old head coach with no prior experienceIf you're going to mention an Iowa connection, why not look across the river to the Badgers?
Matty needs some more seasoning, possibly at a smaller school, or on another staff.
Agreed... Fran has something like a $9.5 millon buyout. The only schools that pay $3.2 million per year or more are P5 schools or Basketball royalty. No sane P5 school AD wants to get rid of their current coach, pay a buyout to get rid of current guy, and then replace him with another P5 coach in his mid 60's that was 0.500 conference coach with 28 year history of no significant NCAA tourney success. Not happening.
I think Pmac makes sense at a place like Drake. Now he wouldn’t have gotten many minutes with the team they just had, but their roster is going to be decimated. I can’t think Drake would be too happy bringing in Fran though.Drake
I'm not saying that either, just that it's a former Iowa player that is coaching.Yeah, not sure how I feel about a 35 year old head coach with no prior experience
I know he is. Fran isn't leaving. The OP tells the truth and nothing but the truth but I think he’s lying.
We’d have a better chance of landing the Easter Bunny, than Shaka Smart. He’s not taking a step back from a basketball school like Marquette to come to Iowa. When Fran does leave, how about Shaka Smart?
Todd LickliterAnyone got a short list of young and hungry coaches?
You thinking about a new screen name?I wish transitioning to new head coaches was easier/smoother....
You think he’d take the Iowa job? When Fran does leave, how about Shaka Smart?
Wouldn Shaka Smart leave for a chance to coach in the big ten? Huge revenues in our conference and a good payday.Anyone got a short list of young and hungry coaches?
I’m lying about an unsubstantiated rumor? No, I’m telling The Truth about what I heard. Whether anything happens is another thing altogether.I know he is. Fran isn't leaving.
I don't think his buyout is that much. I think I remember reading somewhere recently that his buyout is in the neighborhood of $5.5M. Peanuts when considering the huge bump in tv revenue coming with the new contract.Agreed...
Yes Fran can and probably will end up taking Mid Major job when he leaves Iowa at pay maybe $500K/yr and Jack will proably end up playing for him.
Jack is a year or more away from college ball and heading to prep school? He can stay in prep school for a couple years? I think Fran is planning on staying a couple years and then getting a buyout from Iowa to leave so he gets nearly all his guaranteed money.
I don't know what Beth is thinking...hopefully no contract extension. I wouldn't mind a negotiated buyout of Fran right now and he can move on to something else. Sienna job is open?
Wha?When Fran does leave, how about Shaka Smart?
Ya being in the NCAA tournament 7-8 times sure did suck! It may be time for a change but don't be ridiculous. He has permanently had Iowa in the ditch since he got here!
Someone who can recruit like Raveling but coach like Dr. TomWho would replace him? Matt Gatens? Devries, who would be choice just went to West Virginia.
He could work a lower amount to leave early by his own choice. As of 4/1/24, Fran's buyout will be $5,422,500.
Why are you so positive? I heard he was done before the season started.I know he is. Fran isn't leaving.
Because we have gone through this a few times. Why does everyone have this defeatist attitude regarding Shaka Smart and others like him? Iowa can throw a lot of money at a coach. Dare to dream big.
