Where there’s smoke…..

Lol. “This next coach must have Iowa ties! We simply cannot go for a coach without Iowa ties!”
Where did I say that? I threw out a name that was brought up in 2006 & 2010. I also think its interesting that he is from Lone Tree. Who was the last basketball coach who had Iowa ties anyway? Your shtick is getting old and insufferable.

It would make sense IMO. Jack & Patrick leaving so nothing keeping him here in IC. Iowa basketball has gotten stale - not all Fran's fault. I'm sure he can sense the apathy both inside and outside the University.
Yes it is all his fault. He is the coach. He has not recruited well enough, he hasn't developed multiple guys at once, he hasn't demanded his teams play defense.

Who would replace him? Matt Gatens? Devries, who would be choice just went to West Virginia.
If you're going to mention an Iowa connection, why not look across the river to the Badgers?

Matty needs some more seasoning, possibly at a smaller school, or on another staff.

Yeah, not sure how I feel about a 35 year old head coach with no prior experience

Not happening.
Agreed... Fran has something like a $9.5 millon buyout. The only schools that pay $3.2 million per year or more are P5 schools or Basketball royalty. No sane P5 school AD wants to get rid of their current coach, pay a buyout to get rid of current guy, and then replace him with another P5 coach in his mid 60's that was 0.500 conference coach with 28 year history of no significant NCAA tourney success.

Yes Fran can and probably will end up taking Mid Major job when he leaves Iowa at pay maybe $500K/yr and Jack will proably end up playing for him.

Jack is a year or more away from college ball and heading to prep school? He can stay in prep school for a couple years? I think Fran is planning on staying a couple years and then getting a buyout from Iowa to leave so he gets nearly all his guaranteed money.

I don't know what Beth is thinking...hopefully no contract extension. I wouldn't mind a negotiated buyout of Fran right now and he can move on to something else. Sienna job is open?

Not buying any of this but really, really hope it's true. So ready for Iowa men's athletics to move on from good 'ol boy ADs and coaches who care more about enriching and empowering their kids than about elevating their program.

I'm going to make a bold prediction. I think the whole Fran clan is headed to Indianapolis. I believe Fran is good friends with Thad Matta and Butler might be a good landing spot for both his sons. Maybe Fran is ready to step down and coach his boys as an assistant coach. While at Ohio State Matta had one of his young assistants in charge of the defense. Maybe he would use Fran as an offensive coordinator. Couple older coaches sharing the responsibilities and Matta doesn't seem to have a big ego...just enjoys coaching and has always been a good defensive coach! Matta has the program headed in the right direction the last 2 years. Might be a good place for Fran to settle in and enjoy watching his boys the next 5-6 years without much pressure. Get a little buyout to leave Iowa and head east.

I don't think his buyout is that much. I think I remember reading somewhere recently that his buyout is in the neighborhood of $5.5M. Peanuts when considering the huge bump in tv revenue coming with the new contract.

I like Fran. It is difficult to maintain a competitive program, as he has most of his tenure. However, I also get the frustration with the program plateauing at first-round NCAA exits. I also think it is easier with a coaching change for the program to slide in the wrong direction than it is to take the next step upward. My point? We should be careful what we wish for. That said, it seems like a change is probably warranted in the near future given the recent trajectory.

JaBo said in a podcast months ago that he thinks he is leaving this year. and hinted that he has wanted to leave in the recent past. who knows
