DeVries of Drake is the replacement if Fran is done

This is a rebuild season. Sandfort not Fran failed tonight. This is a young team with tons of upside. I get the fatigue as I'm sick of the March Madness ineptitude as well. I'm not freaking out tonight just disappointed. I'm on the fence with Fran but if we cut ties or he walks away after the season Coach DeVries of Drake could take Iowa to the next level. I would be all in on that scenario.

Rep. Ken Buck says he will not serve out rest of term, narrowing GOP majority

Rep. Ken Buck (R-Colo.) said Tuesday that he will not serve out the rest of his term and will instead vacate his seat in Congress at the end of next week, further narrowing an already razor-thin House Republican majority.

“I look forward to staying involved in our political process, as well as spending more time in Colorado and with my family,” Buck said in a brief statement.

Buck had said in November that he would not seek reelection to another term, but his announcement Tuesday that he would depart Congress so soon was a surprise.
Once Buck departs, Republicans will outnumber Democrats 218 to 213 in the House. That means Republicans can afford to lose only two votes to pass legislation along party lines when everyone is attending and voting.

Buck has clashed with the majority of the Republican conference in recent months, notably for opposing his party’s launch of an impeachment inquiry into President Biden. In a September op-ed for The Washington Post, Buck criticized the inquiry as one that relied “on an imagined history.”

Buck was also one of eight Republican lawmakers who voted with Democrats to oust Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) from the speakership.

Follow Election 2024
In announcing his retirement from Congress last year, Buck expressed disappointment that many fellow Republicans continue to push the “big lie” that the 2020 presidential election was stolen.
“Our nation is on a collision course with reality, and a steadfast commitment to truth, even uncomfortable truths, is the only way forward,” Buck said then. “Too many Republican leaders are lying to America.”

Buck also cited Republicans’ downplaying the Jan. 6, 2021, insurrection at the U.S. Capitol, in which a pro-Trump mob sought to stop the certification of Joe Biden’s electoral win, as well as the GOP’s claims that the ensuing prosecutions amounted to a weaponization of the justice system.
“These insidious narratives breed widespread cynicism and erode Americans’ confidence in the rule of law,” Buck said. “It is impossible for the Republican Party to confront our problems and offer a course correction for the future while being obsessively fixated on retribution and vengeance for contrived injustices of the past.”

On Saturday, West Virginia beat 9-seed Princeton 61-51 to advance to the second round of the NCAA Tournament to play Iowa. Princeton led the game by nine early in the second quarter, but the Mountaineers were able to cut that to 26-24 at halftime. An 18-7 third quarter gave West Virginia the lead, and it didn't relinquish the lead in the fourth.
On paper, West Virginia's record looks better than a typical 8-seed: at 25-7, there are nine teams ranked in the AP Top 25 with as many or more losses as the 'Eers.

West Virginia's record is a bit deceptive, though, because it played a very weak non-conference schedule: the Mountaineers beat (then-ranked) Penn State at home, but otherwise didn't play a team ranked in the NET top 125.

West Virginia was challenged often in the Big 12, and had some bright spots on its resume to show for it, beating 5-seed Oklahoma and 7-seed Iowa State in Morgantown. They also played a pair of close games against 4-seed Kansas State, taking the 'Cats to OT in Manhattan then losing by three on a neutral floor in the Big 12 Tournament. Those results show that West Virginia is capable of not only hanging with, but beating good opponents.

That said, the Mountaineers weren't particularly dangerous on the road. They were just 6-4 in true road games, including a late-February loss at 14-16 Oklahoma State. Their best road win was over 8-seed Kansas, and they didn't beat any other NCAA Tournament teams on the road.

Underachieving Purdue; POTY, very good supporting cast; late year swan dive

Painter probably aint going to get it this year either. The last two years PU just cant put teams away, even with Edey. Many close wins, some puzzling losses. Wisky had not been playing well.

The last OT possession by PU was terrible as no one came to help Smith out with the ball. Not sure what they were trying to do but if it was to burn the clock down a 3 man weave is way safer that having your point guard dribble it around for 20 seconds.

I dont like PU or Wisky at all but like to watch smart Bball, Painter like Keady cant win some big ones.

New Story Kadyn Proctor to transfer, return to Bama

Chad Leistikow of the Register just sent a text to his group that "there is legitimate worry within the program" Kadyn Proctor may leave Iowa when the portal window opens — and Leistikow is way too connected to get something like that wrong.

I'll be candid, this wasn't on my radar. Will see what we can find out and report back.
