Not sure what to comment on this. I guess the title says it all lol... Maybe call them "progressive"?

The cultist site Florida’s Voice reports:

Republican National Committee Cochair Lara Trump announced she will soon be contacting conservative activist Scott Presler to set up a “legal ballot harvesting division” with Presler playing a major role.
The announcement comes just after the outage of old RNC leadership and as Presler has pleaded with the national party for months to allow him to play a larger role in reaching voters through nontraditional means, such as ballot “chasing” and “harvesting.”
Presler responded on Friday, saying, “Let me show love by taking positive action. Oh my gosh. We can do this. Let’s come together as a family & save the country we love. Right now, we’re a scheduling voter registration drives at gun shows, places of worship, rodeos, farmers markets, & other venues across the USA.”
From a 2023 Politico Playbook report:

He previously worked with and reported to the RNC as a Republican Party of Virginia operative until the party suddenly cut ties in August 2016. According to three people familiar with the circumstances, Presler engaged in sexual activity inside a Virginia Beach office the RNC shared with the state party — and posted explicit pictures of the encounter on Craigslist. Yes, you read that right. Craigslist.
After party officials were made aware of the photos, Presler was confronted about what had happened and — seeing the writing on the wall — resigned. Federal campaign finance records confirm the state party stopped paying Presler just two months before the 2016 election. Reached by phone Wednesday, Presler hung up on Playbook, and he did not respond to subsequent messages detailing the allegation.

Iowa congressional challengers file to run for office

Iowa congressional candidates filed nomination papers to run for office this week ahead of Friday’s deadline for candidates to file to appear on the ballot.

Candidates in Iowa’s four congressional districts will be on the ballot this November, along with races in Iowa’s state House and Senate and county contests. This year’s primary election is June 4, and the general election is Nov. 5.

In the 1st Congressional District, Democrat Christina Bohannan of Iowa City, a former state representative, is challenging incumbent U.S. Rep. Mariannette Miller-Meeks, an Ottumwa Republican. Bohannan was in the Capitol on Thursday to submit her nomination petition.

Bohannan, saying she wants to bring a bipartisan voice to Congress, is running in a district national Democrats see the potential to flip. The district includes the heavily Democratic Johnson County and GOP strongholds like Van Buren and Mahaska counties.

She argued Miller-Meeks does not look for bipartisan solutions and caters to the “far-right, extreme members of her party.”

“We need to find solutions, we need to work together, to really tackle the problems that Iowans are facing, ” Bohannan said. “And we need to get away from this divide that we see and this extreme Washington, D.C., politics.”

Miller-Meeks filed for re-election in February, saying 2024 would be a “pivotal election surrounded by issues that face everyday Iowans.”

Miller-Meeks' campaign did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the election challenge.

David Pautsch, Davenport RepublicanDavid Pautsch, Davenport Republican
Miller-Meeks also is facing a challenger from the right in the upcoming primary from Davenport minister David Pautsch. Pautsch, a Republican, filed his nominating petitions Monday.

Pautsch announced this week he has received campaign endorsements from former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee and Mike Lindell, the CEO of MyPillow who was among the loudest voices spreading false claims denying the results of the 2020 election.

"David Pautsch will be a strong and uncompromised voice in Congress to help save America from the oppression that has destroyed our constitutional liberties, national security, economy, schools, law and order, small businesses and families," Huckabee said in a statement released by Pautsch's campaign.

Pautsch has said he's running because he believes the country is becoming too secular and that Miller-Meeks is not conservative or biblical enough in her decisions.

He cites her support for the Respect for Marriage Act, a bipartisan measure that required the federal government to recognize marriages performed legally in states regardless of the sex or race of the couple and clarifying that religious organizations are not required to perform same-sex marriages.

“David's commitment to saving America by trusting in God's power is unwavering,” Lindell wrote.

2nd District

Sarah Corkery, Cedar Falls Democrat Sarah Corkery, Cedar Falls Democrat
Sarah Corkery, a Democrat and Cedar Falls businesswoman, filed her nominating papers this week to challenge U.S. Rep. Ashley Hinson of Marion in Iowa’s 2nd Congressional District.

Corkery cited votes by Hinson that she believes have hurt Iowans, including voting against the Inflation Reduction Act and the federal infrastructure law.

“My whole career, I have been an advocate for breast cancer research and disability rights. I have started a business with my husband, and I have raised a family with three kids here,” Corkery said. “Northeast Iowa is a special place, and our families deserve a representative who recognizes that, not a mouthpiece for the Republican Party and their corporate donors.”

When Hinson filed to appear on the ballot in February, she criticized the federal leadership of President Joe Biden and said border security would be among her top issues this cycle.

When Corkery announced her candidacy last year, Hinson’s campaign said she would be a “rubber-stamp for the radical Biden agenda.”

“We can’t wait to contrast Sarah’s extreme, liberal views with Ashley’s record of delivering conservative results for Iowans,” campaign manager Addie Lavis said at the time.

3rd, 4th Districts

U.S. Rep. Zach Nunn in Iowa’s 3rd Congressional District and U.S. Rep. Randy Feenstra in Iowa’s 4th District both filed their paperwork to seek re-election in February.

Democrat Lanon Baccam, who is challenging Nunn, submitted his nomination petition Thursday morning.

Melissa Vine, a Des Moines nonprofit director, has announced her intention to run in the Democratic primary for the seat, but she had not filed her nominating papers as of Thursday afternoon.

Feenstra faces a Republican primary challenge from Kevin Virgil, an Army veteran and former intelligence worker.

Democrat Ryan Melton filed to run in the heavily Republican 4th District on Monday.

Girlfriend Bought AR-15 style Firearms for Felon Weeks before He Ambushed/Murdered 2 Police Officers & 1 Paramedic

Not sure why anyone would want to be a police officer. Oftentimes they are completely out-gunned.

Burnsville Minnesota, where the murder of 2 police officers and 1 paramedic occurred, is an affluent suburb. The February 911 call from the Burnsville home was about an alleged sexual assault. 3 police officers were in the home negotiating with the man, Shannon Cortez Gooden, to surrender peacefully. Gooden had himself, the girlfriend (Ashley Dyrdahl), and 7 children barricaded in the home.

As a felon, Gooden was barred from possessing guns. After several hours of negotiation, Gooden came out of nowhere, firing, and hitting all 3 police officers in the home. The 3 police officers retreated from the home; 2 eventually died from their wounds. 1 Burnsville paramedic, who went running towards the officers, was struck and killed.

The story from today from the Minneapolis Star Tribune:

Federal charges: Girlfriend bought AR-15 style firearms for felon weeks before Burnsville Minnesota Ambush

United States Attorney for the District of Minnesota Andrew Luger spoke during a press conference at the federal courthouse in Minneapolis on Thursday, March 14, 2024.

A Burnsville Minnesota woman has been federally indicted on allegations of straw purchasing multiple guns eventually used in the killing of three Burnsville first responders last month by the man who was prohibited from having them.

Ashley Anne Dyrdahl, 35, has been indicted on 11 counts including conspiracy, straw purchasing and making false statements for procuring five firearms on behalf of 38-year-old Shannon Cortez Gooden. The two AR-15 style firearms used in the Feb. 18 shooting were purchased by Dyrdahl on Jan. 5 and Jan. 25, respectively, this year -- just weeks before Gooden shot and killed officers Paul Elmstrand and Matthew Ruge, both 27, and firefighter-paramedic Adam Finseth, 40, before he fatally shot himself. Dyrdahl lived at the home with Gooden on the day police were called in response to a domestic abuse call, where Gooden barricaded himself in the home with seven children, leading to an hourslong standoff before the fatal shots were fired.

"Now today we can answer the questions Minnesotans have been asking since Feb. 18," U.S. Attorney Andy Luger said at a news conference Thursday.

"Ashley Dyrdahl didn't shoot anybody, make no mistake," said Drew Evans, superintended of the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA). "But Ashley Dyrdahl handed him the guns, and for this she must be held accountable."

Evans said the BCA's broader investigation into the shooting is "still very active and ongoing," but the probe into how Gooden acquired the guns he used has since been "broken off" from the investigation. Gooden also wounded Burnsville Police Sgt. Adam Medlicott during the shootout.

Luger said that Dyrdahl is in the process of surrendering to U.S. Marshals and will make her first appearance at 3 p.m. before a federal magistrate judge in St. Paul. He said his office will not seek pretrial detention.

According to the indictment:

In 2016, Dyrdahl began a relationship with Gooden, and by at least 2019 knew that he had previously been convicted of second-degree assault, a felony, which precluded him from owning firearms. In 2019, she filed a letter in support of Gooden's petition to restore his firearm rights in which she acknowledged his conviction and crime. That petition would later be denied.

"Despite knowing of Gooden's felony status, between September of 2023 and January of 2024, Dyrdahl purchased five firearms from two different federal firearms licensees (FFLs) and knowingly and intentionally transferred the firearms to Gooden," the indictment said.

As part of the conspiracy, the indictment alleges Gooden sent Dyrdahl text messages of firearms he wanted her to buy for him. She would then place the orders at the FFLs and filled out federal Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms forms stating that she was the actual buyer of the firearms, and that she was not planning to transfer them to a felon. During a text mesage exchange between Dyrdahl and Gooden, the two discussed background checks and other questions from firearm sellers, in which Dyrdahl allegedly told Gooden, "We just gotta make sure we're smart about all this ya know?"

According to the indictment, among the firearms Dyrdahl bought and transferred to Gooden at his direction were three semiautomatic AR-15–style firearm lower-receivers. One of these was a Franklin Armory FAI-15 .300-caliber semiautomatic firearm that was equipped with a binary trigger. A firearm with a binary trigger fires one shot when the trigger is pulled, and another when the trigger is released, effectively doubling the rate of fire. Dyrdahl also purchased a .300-caliber barrel for the lower receiver.

Dyrdahl knew that Gooden was loading the semiautomatic AR-15–style firearms with .300 Blackout ammunition, which is a heavier load ammunition that has an increased potential for lethality, prosecutors said.

A conviction in 2008 for second-degree assault in Dakota County prohibited Gooden from possessing firearms or ammunition. In August 2020, Gooden petitioned the court unsuccessfully to regain his right to a gun. He said that he wanted to protect himself and his family, according to court records.

Noemi del Carmen Torres told the Star Tribune this week that she was the first of five people called by prosecutors on Tuesday for questioning before the grand jury's secret proceedings. She said she was asked Gooden's history of possessing firearms and whether he would have been able to force her to buy any guns on his behalf.

"No, I don't want any of that because I feel like he was gonna kill me," Torres said in an interview, noting that Gooden was abusive toward her. "I feared for my life, and that's what I told them."

One of the firearms seized by law enforcement was bought illegally in what is commonly called a "straw purchase," according to the owner of the gun shop where the weapon was obtained weeks before the shooting. John McConkey told the Star Tribune last month that an AR-15 lower receiver was picked up by the purchaser at the Modern Sportsman Gun Shop and Range in Burnsville, roughly 6 miles from where Gooden lived. McConkey said at the time that he did not know whether that weapon was fired during the standoff.

Dakota County Attorney Kathryn Keena joined the law enforcement leaders during the presentation as well. Her office is reviewing the BCA's report.

Travis Riddle, special agent in charge of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) in St. Paul, was scheduled to appear, as was Burnsville Fire Chief BJ Jungmann and Burnsville Police Chief Tanya Schwartz.

A groundbreaking study has brought to light alarming findings regarding the mental health of transgender individuals who have undergone genital surgery. The research, which investigated the rates of psychiatric emergencies and suicide attempts before and after gender-affirming surgery, has uncovered a disturbing trend that demands immediate attention and action. The study’s results shed light on the complex challenges faced by the transgender community and the urgent need for comprehensive mental health support throughout the transition process.

Doubled Suicide Attempt Rates After Vaginoplasty

One of the most shocking revelations from the study is the dramatic increase in suicide attempt rates following vaginoplasty. The research found that the overall rates of suicide attempts doubled from 1.5% to 3.3% (p=0.017) after this particular gender-affirming surgery. This finding highlights the immense psychological toll that the transition process can take on individuals and the critical importance of providing ongoing mental health support.

Higher Prevalence of Suicide Attempts in Vaginoplasty Group

The study also revealed that suicide attempts were more common among patients who underwent vaginoplasty compared to those who had phalloplasty. In the vaginoplasty group, 4.4% of patients attempted suicide, while only 1.7% of patients in the phalloplasty group had a similar experience (p=0.033). This disparity suggests that individuals undergoing vaginoplasty may be at a higher risk of experiencing severe mental health challenges and require additional support and intervention.

Psychiatric Encounters Before and After Surgery

The research found that a significant proportion of patients in both the vaginoplasty and phalloplasty groups experienced psychiatric encounters before and after their surgeries. Among the vaginoplasty group, 22.2% (193 patients) had at least one psychiatric encounter, while 20.7% (74 patients) in the phalloplasty group had a similar experience. These findings underscore the high rates of mental health challenges faced by transgender individuals throughout the transition process.

Increased Risk for Patients with Prior Psychiatric Emergencies

The study identified that patients with a history of prior psychiatric emergencies were at a higher risk of experiencing mental health challenges after gender-affirming surgery. The rate of a psychiatric encounter occurring after surgery, given a prior episode before surgery, was 33.9% for the vaginoplasty group and 26.5% for the phalloplasty group. This finding emphasizes the need for targeted mental health support and intervention for individuals with a history of psychiatric emergencies.

Comparing Suicide Attempt Rates to the General Population

The study revealed that the observed rate of suicide attempts in the phalloplasty group was similar to that of the general population. However, the vaginoplasty group’s rate was found to be more than double the general population’s rate. This alarming statistic highlights the unique and profound challenges faced by individuals undergoing vaginoplasty and the urgent need for specialized support and resources.

Importance of Pre-Surgical Counseling and Post-Surgical Follow-Up

The findings of this study underscore the critical importance of comprehensive pre-surgical counseling and post-surgical follow-up for transgender individuals undergoing gender-affirming surgery. The research calls for the development of targeted interventions and support systems to address the mental health needs of this vulnerable population, particularly those undergoing vaginoplasty or those with a history of prior psychiatric emergencies.

Call for Further Research and Comprehensive Support

The study’s alarming findings serve as a wake-up call to the medical community and society at large, highlighting the urgent need for further research into the factors contributing to the increased risk of suicide attempts after gender surgery. The research also emphasizes the importance of developing comprehensive, compassionate, and accessible mental health support services for transgender individuals throughout their transition journey.

'BLESS YOUR HEART': Rising Republican star Katie Britt shreds Biden on border, rising costs in SOTU rebuttal!

Republican Alabama Sen. Katie Britt pulled no punches as she delivered her party's rebuttal to President Biden's State of the Union address Thursday night, ripping him for his "despicable" job handling the border crisis, as well as his promotion of "Bidenomics" amid the rising consumer costs plaguing American families.

A rising star within the GOP, the 42-year-old Britt's selection to deliver the rebuttal last week was met with widespread praise — even from some Democrats — as she continues to build a national profile despite never holding elected office prior to her election in the 2022 midterms.

Britt began her remarks with a reference to Biden's age and his decades as a career politician, blasting his speech as "the performance of a permanent politician who has actually been in office for longer than I've been alive."

"The country we know and love seems to be slipping away, and it feels like the next generation will have fewer opportunities – and less freedoms – than we did. I worry my own children may not even get a shot at living their American Dreams," Britt said.

"The American Dream has turned into a nightmare for so many families. The true, unvarnished State of our Union begins and ends with this: Our families are hurting. Our country can do better," she said.

Britt then sought to pick apart Biden's policies, starting with the ongoing crisis at the southern border that's seen a historic number of migrants cross into the U.S. She specifically called out his diversion from former President Donald Trump's border policies.

"President Biden inherited the most secure border of all-time. But minutes after taking office, he suspended all deportations, halted construction of the border wall, and announced a plan to give amnesty to millions. We know that President Biden didn’t just create this border crisis. He invited it with 94 executive actions in his first 100 days," she said.

She went on to describe the brutalities inflicted upon migrants by cartel members at the border, as well as the recent tragic death of Georgia college student Laken Riley, who was allegedly at the hands of an illegal immigrant.

"President Biden’s border crisis is a disgrace. It’s despicable. And it’s almost entirely preventable," she said, referencing Riley. "President Biden finally said her name, but he refused to take responsibility for his own actions … but enough is enough."

Britt said Biden's failures "didn't stop" at the border and turned to rising costs and the economy, arguing "the American people are scraping by."

"Hardworking families are struggling to make ends meet today. And with soaring mortgage rates and sky-high childcare costs, they’re also struggling to plan for tomorrow. The American people are scraping by while the President proudly proclaims Bidenomics is working! Bless his heart. We know better," she said.

Britt then decried Democrats' crime policies and calls from progressives to defund the police, before fuming over what she described as Biden "making us a punchline on the world state," citing rising chaos around the world.

"Where I’m from, your word is your bond. But for three years, this President has demonstrated that America’s word doesn’t mean what it used to. From abandoning allies in his disastrous withdrawal from Afghanistan … to desperately pushing another dangerous deal with Iran, President Biden has failed. We’ve become a nation in retreat. And the enemies of freedom see an opportunity," she said.

"Right now, our Commander in Chief is not in command.
The free world deserves better than a dithering and diminished leader. America deserves leaders who recognize that secure borders, stable prices, safe streets, and a strong defense are the cornerstones of a great nation," she added.

Britt closed by arguing the nation was at "a crossroads," but that it didn't have to be that way.

"We all feel it. But here’s the good news: we people are still in the driver’s seat. We get to decide whether our future will grow brighter, or whether we settle for an America in decline," she said. "Well, I know which choice our children deserve – and I know the choice the Republican Party is fighting for."

Credit Card Recommendations

I do a bit of travel for work and need help with what sort of card(s) I should be utilizing for my reimbursable expenses. My company will pay something like $650 in annual fees so I can use something that is actually beneficial to me. I will occasionally fly, likely American. And I usually stay at Marriott properties. For my co-workers that’ll fly a lot more than I will, they picked cards solely based on lounge access. While nice, I’m not sure I’ll fully utilize that enough to blow my load on the $600 fee American card.

Do any of you fine upstanding individuals have recommendations?

Trump-backed Senate candidate faces GOP worries that he could be linked to adult website profile

WASHINGTON (AP) — For Republicans eager to regain the Senate majority this year, Ohio offers a prime opportunity to pick up a critical seat.

But ahead of Tuesday’s primary election, there’s mounting anxiety inside the GOP that Bernie Moreno may emerge with the nomination. After vaulting into the top tier of contenders with a coveted endorsement from Donald Trump, Moreno — who has shifted from a public supporter of LGBTQ rights to a hardline opponent — is confronting questions about the existence of a 2008 profile seeking “Men for 1-on-1 sex” on a casual sexual encounters website called Adult Friend Finder.

“Hi, looking for young guys to have fun with while traveling,” reads a caption on a photo-less profile under the username “nardo19672,” according to an Associated Press review of records made public through a massive and well-publicized data breach of the website. Records also show the profile was last accessed about six hours after it was created.

The AP review confirmed that someone with access to Moreno’s email account created the profile, though the AP could not definitively confirm whether it was created by Moreno himself. Questions about the profile have circulated in GOP circles for the past month. On Thursday evening, two days after the AP first asked Moreno’s campaign about the account, the candidate’s lawyer said a former intern created the account as a prank. The lawyer provided a statement from the intern, Dan Ricci, who said he created the account as “part of a juvenile prank.”

“I am thoroughly embarrassed by an aborted prank I pulled on my friend, and former boss, Bernie Moreno, nearly two decades ago,” Ricci said. The AP couldn’t independently confirm Ricci’s statement and he didn’t immediately respond to messages left for him on multiple phone numbers listed to him. He donated $6,599 to Moreno’s campaign last year, according to campaign finance records.
