26 UI student-athletes are being investigated for online gambling, incl in Wrestling, Men’s Basketball, Football, Baseball, Men’s track & field

True. But with criminal filings and chargings (read: public) - there is no hiding the actual offenses.

Which is kinda the case with Paniro. The DA CHOSE to bring charges that could have just gone straight to the NCAA - who doesn't seem inclined to really hammer guys for gambling.
Good grief Charlie Brown!

The 7 players listed over the last 2 days broke the law. Why in the world would a DA or the DCI go straight to the NCAA for a legal matter?

Doesn't that scare some of you guys? They can tell where the bet was placed. Another words, they can track you anywhere . I guess that means no one cares about privacy anymore or have we just accept the fact that it no longer exists?
@lookleft goright was today years old when he learned that the smart phone in his pocket can track everything he does...and it has been since he bought it and turned it on.

You can turn off location services on a phone - I rarely have mine on. If an app requires it be on, well, then you know. When location is off, a cell company can and does still figure out where you are, but generally nobody else will know.....unless a subpoena is issued for cell records, which may require court approval in some states.

Plot twist, constitutional rights may or may not have been violated.

I think this is actually a legit defense for the athletes’ criminal woes.

Will do nothing for NCAA violations, however.

Here is a concept don’t do anything wrong and who cares who knows where you are.

I just bought a truck yesterday. Going through the typical briefing with my salesman, we were signing into the app. One of the options on initial login which was already automatically ✔️ was the ability to give all your driving/vehicle data (to include speed etc) to third parties. This includes insurance companies and whoever the hell else. We unchecked it of course.

In fact, most cell phones can pick up your private conversation. For example, I picked my wife (no pics) up from work and she was talking about having to get her CPR recert. This got us into a convo about it for a few minutes. Lo and behold, I started getting advertisement about online CPR classes and first aid kits. Once you start noticing it, you find out that this happens a lot.

Outside of the law, who gets to decide what's right or wrong. For my friends on the right or left, just remember that system pendulums tend to swing both ways in time and this type of power can (and has) been adopted and used against either group. The "just don't do anything wrong" argument resides on a very slippery slope imo.

Kids and their damn phones.
I was at McDonald's getting some coffee yesterday and the usual 10 or so old men were circled up together. They weren't chatting like they used to. They were on their phones aswell. All these "Old Heads" staying with their flip phones are getting fewer now. Wont be long

I’ve been going hard at this. I hold my phone in front of me and repeat over and over again “Pics of Chief’s wife, Pics of Chief’s wife, Pics of Chief’s wife”. Still nothing. Maybe mine is broken ? 😉

. . with strange new skills. I walk a bumpy trail often and have several times seen teens on bikes navigating the ride and roots with one hand and reading phone, even texting (thumb is active) with the other. Guessing it’ll be an Olympic sport soon.
Earlier this summer I was at a stop sign coming off a gravel road waiting to turn onto a county highway. A young man was coming down the highway on his motorcycle. Right hand on the handlebar/throttle, left hand holding his phone up so he could read or look at whatever was on it. He passed by me and never even knew I was there at the stop sign. Some of this younger generation are dumber than sh@t...

Some of every generation.

You are exactly right. The other day we were talking about switching our payroll service from Quickbooks to something cheaper. We talked about it in the office (where both our smart phones were) and low and behold for the next week we kept getting junk emails about payroll service online companies. We had never searched or talked about them before that 10 minute convo. Someone is always listening and they are called Google. Alexa and those other tech tools have to really make you wonder what or who is watching and listening to everything you do. No thanks for me.

Some of every generation.
Yeah, there are some major dumb ones in every generation, but this millennial group take the cake. In past generations the dipsh@ts were the minority. In this one dipsh@ts are the majority. Lots of clueless idiots.

They're not going to the NCAA. As mentioned in this thread. If a DA can smell a great PR opportunity they'll jump on a case that they wouldn't necessarily have done otherwise.

The average millennial is 35 years old, they're not the "young" generation anymore. We have Gen Z (between 12 & 26 years old) and Gen Alpha (younger than 12 years old) now

Ok, gonna get technical I guess. Millennial, Gen Z and whatever else has a lot of dipsh@ts.

Every single generation of old farts says that about the youngest generation.

Again, being halfway between them, I would much rather take Gen Z than boomers.

And I know this board slants really old, so that’ll probably annoy some people, lol.

I’m Gen X and I supervise quite a bit of millennials and Gen Z. Millennials are by far the worst. Obviously speaking in generalities, but never has there been a generous so obsessed with how they “feel”. In their general manner of speaking they often replace the phrase “I think that….” with “I feel like…... Listen for it, once you hear it, you can’t I hear it. Oh, and the repeated misuse of the phrase “literally”. As in I’m literally going to starve to death!! When they mean the opposite. I’ll take me a responsible, experienced boomer any day of the week.

Yesterday, I talked to a Professor who is the head of a department at UNI.

They have to “teach” their students patient etiquette. Meaning, this how you treat people……SMFH.

Literally now means literally the opposite of what literally means. Figuratively speaking of course.

The power of the written word is that it allows one to organize their thoughts.

I’m a boomer and proud of it…… No one thought I would live this long….. I’ve defied all logic……. Keith Richards gives me hope

I just turned 43. Not sure what that makes me, nor do I really care. I agree that this country has it's fair share of idiots, that is for sure. Sometimes you you just have to shake your head and walk away, or put them on ignore!

You’re Gen X my friend. It means your chances of not knowing how the internet works is pretty low while also likely not knowing what it feels like to be “triggered”. Nice work buddy

Then being a Boomer would mean you have lived a triggered life. When you were young You’d go fight and the next day there was mutual respect for each other.

If you tell someone to stop, and they don’t, smack em.

You disrespect your Mother you get backhanded. It’s called healthy fear.
