3500 tickets left for Purdue (Thursday 8pm)

I believe the U of Minnesota is requiring the vaccination (or negative test within the last 72 hrs) to attend all sporting events over 200 fans. This is running from today until Feb 9. Minnesota already has a mask mandate.

Yep. Minnesota's vaccination requirement applies to everyone age 5 and older. Those who got one shot of the J&J can get in. The booster is not required. Masks are required.

Pretty strict!

This is their policy from Jan 26 thru at least Feb 9 (the policy may get extended):

Jan 14, 2022 11:54 AM

The University of Minnesota announced today that it will require attendees at indoor events with 200 or more spectators to show proof of COVID-19 vaccination or proof of a negative, third-party COVID-19 test within 72 hours of the event.

The temporary policy, which reflects the University's vaccination announcement made earlier in the day, will start on Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2022, and will end on Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2022. This policy may be extended, and Athletics will work with campus leadership to determine if an extension is needed. Any extension of this policy will be announced prior to Feb. 9.

The COVID-19 vaccine requirement applies to all attendees age five and older. Minnesota's indoor mask / face covering mandate also remains in effect for all home athletic indoor events.

The policy applies to tennis, swimming and diving, track and field, women's basketball, men's basketball, women's hockey and men's hockey games, as these sports meet the criteria (indoor event with more than 200 attendees between Jan. 26 - Feb. 9) for individuals to show proof of COVID-19 vaccination or a negative, third-party COVID-19 test.

The first scheduled event with the policy in effect will be Minnesota's home men's basketball game against Ohio State on Jan. 27.

The following are ways attendees can comply with this policy:

For Current University of Minnesota Students, Faculty and Staff:

You need to show a valid UCard as proof of compliance with the University's already established vaccine policy to gain entry to events.

For All Others:
Individuals ages five and older must show proof of vaccination or a negative, third-party COVID-19 test taken in the previous 72 hours to enter the events described above.

On-site testing will not be available at Minnesota athletic events. Fans can visit the state of Minnesota's website if they need help locating a testing site.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What qualifies as proof of vaccination?
Individuals can show their CDC-provided vaccination card or a photo of their vaccination card, along with a photo ID with a matching name. Individuals can also use Docket or other government-approved services that provide copies of medical records, in concert with a photo ID with a matching name, to verify their vaccination status. A matching photo ID is not required for guests under age 18.

What qualifies as proof of a negative COVID-19 test result?
Those who do not show proof of vaccination for entry must instead provide a copy (email, printout or screenshot) of a third-party test that shows a negative result on a sample collected in the 72 hours prior to entry, along with a photo ID with a matching name. A matching photo ID is not required for guests under age 18. At-home, self-read tests do not meet this requirement.

What does vaccination mean?
According to the CDC, for children 5 years through 17 years of age, a primary series consists of 2 doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine. For persons 18 and older, a primary series consists of:
• A 2-dose series of an mRNA COVID-19 vaccine (Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna), or
• A single-dose COVID-19 vaccine (Johnson & Johnson's vaccine)

Is a booster required for entry as well?
At this time, proof of a booster shot is not required for entry.

How does this apply to guests who may be under the age of five?
This policy does not apply to guests under the age of five since they are not currently eligible for vaccination. Other public health policies, notably those regarding wearing masks inside University facilities, still apply.

Do spectators still have to wear a mask?
Minnesota's indoor mask mandate, which was put into place in September 2021, is unchanged and spectators will need to continue to wear a well-fitted face mask that covers the wearer's nose and mouth. The lone exception is when an individual is eating or drinking.

Will concession stands remain open?
Yes, concession stands will remain open and offer a full menu.

The science? Show me that masks really work according to science. I live in Illinois and we have been under a mask mandate that has crippled businesses since the end of August 2021. Mask mandate still in effect today with no sign of it being reduced.

Illinois went thru the recent surge like every other state in the midwest. Look at the numbers and compare states and graphs, all the same. Masks don't make a difference, its a virus. Until our society understands health, thru diet, exercise and building antibodies the mask mandates here in Illinois will continue while business suffers.
Do you naively believe that 100% of the state of Illinois is obeying a mask mandate? Masks work when everyone wears them. But we'll never have complete compliance and you know that. I'm glad that you are more concerned about the bottom line than people's lives. Maybe consider a run for public office.

Burg, I follow the science and not political agendas that is the problem here. But you will not have a country without a bottom line, don't be naive to that.

Show me which state in the Midwest is different with numbers or masks the last 5 months? You can't. We attend a basketball game or indoor event and mask is worn , without there is no admittance. Not such the case in Iowa yet we have the same graphical numbers, why??

I live in a state that couldn't be bothered to mask if it meant abortion would be forever illegal (SD). The science does follow that mask to mask (N95) transmission is very difficult and even more so if vaccines are brought into the picture. I can't attest to why numbers are high other than people in general are stupid. I haven't been to a public event in 2 years due to my son's health concerns. So I don't have much info to supply for/against any argument about first hand mask wearing.

The low turnout around me at most games can be depressing, but Iowa ranks 7th in home court advantage in the country per kenpom.

Whatever problems people say Carver has, the team's performance at home isn't the problem.

There is overwhelming scientific evidence that masks help prevent the he spread of airborne disease, including COVID. Please don’t spread misinformation.

CHA is a Covid stew. Nobody is wearing masks. NOBODY! Take a look at any other Big Ten game on TV, even wrestling. Lately, every single other Big Ten school appears to have a mask mandate, because virtually everyone in the crowd, and many of the coaches, are wearing masks. I went to the PSU game last Saturday, wore my mask, and felt like I had put myself at great risk because of the lack of masks on anyone else. On top of this disparity, you won't find a hand sanitizer anywhere in CHA. You won't find a mask to give to fans anywhere either. This is the work of the state board of regents, who've chosen to ignore the science and make a statement that Covid isn't a problem at the Univ. of Iowa. Other Big Ten schools appear to be institutions of higher learning. Not Iowa.
Shame that b1tch Kim will continue to run the show...

Maybe some do and that's why there's 3500 seats available
There are plenty of people who are not attending because of Covid. We are going and we are masked. As Redbird says, most are unmasked.

It is so pathetic we can’t get a decent crowd there to support the Hawks! Find a way to put more students butts in the seats for one thing. The people that show up are the blue hairs that only bitch and moan if somebody stands in front of them. They hardly say a word let alone cheer for the Hawks.

I think the key words in your post are “the people that show up.”

Yes, posters on this board complain about the blue hairs. But they are the ones who go to most if not all of the games (and there really aren’t as many blue hairs as people seem to think), while the complainers sit at home or only occasionally attend.

If you want to wear a mask wear one. Nobody is stopping you! Those of us that chose not to wear one do so at our own choice! If you dont like being around other people w/o masks i say stay home because only a few people wear them anymore at least where im from!

Masks are beyond worthless. If you getting enough air to oxygenate your blood so you don’t pass out, then you are exposed to the virus. Have a friend who works on toxic military projects which require high tech masks and he finds it hilarious and disappointing that people actually feel masks work against an airborne virus.

I've always thought that if you believe that you wearing a mask helps, and if the other person wearing the mask helps, then if the other person doesn't want to wear a mask, why not wear 2? I mean, if one barrier is good, isn't 2 better? Problem solved.

Patently false. But I love the anecdotal use of “friend who works on…” That gag never gets old and always trumps actual scientific data.

The state board of regents is a product of one political party only. It is the party of anti-science, anti-democracy, anti-accountability, and increasingly violence, and is currently undergoing a purge of any and every reasonable and responsible remaining voice within it.

The University of Iowa hospitals and clinics just lost its CEO after only three years. He’s going to San Francisco to work at UCSF, one of the top five research hospitals in the country. Who would want to work with such a redneck-run state government and BOR that decide to turn public health into a political wedge and propaganda to divide people and consolidate corporate power?

N 95 masks work well. Surgical masks also do at least something, which is why they wear them in surgery, to limit airborne pathogen’s and reduce the chance of infection.

Science developed the computer or phone that you’re using right now, in an apparent effort to dismiss science.
