Ben Kueter

I’m not sure how much his great tourney will help the rest of the year just due to the monsters at the top, but it’s got to feel good to see you can go toe to toe all weekend and just keep winning.
The people that he’s losing to are at least as athletic as he is and bigger than he is…and they basically rag doll him. He’s essentially beating everyone that’s as athletic but his size and those that are bigger but not as athletic. 4 of his losses are to Kerkvliet, Steveson, and Hendrickson. I think he’s positioned to have a pretty good NCAA tournament as long as the lights don’t get too big for him.

You guys keep saying this but you can’t deny he’s been underwhelming. Slow on his feet, lack of explosion, lack of bonus points. Just assuming he’s going to be up against a bunch of tomato cans next year is dumb.
Curious if him beating Feldman 2X qualifies as “going up against a tomato can” considering he was the #1 P4P guy in the class of 2022. For reference Messenbrink was #19 and Levi Haines was #7.

I praised him for his tournament performance. He needs to continue to develop getting bigger, faster, better on his feet. Being a national champion takes a lot of dedication. Tough to do splitting time on the football field. Hope he continues to get better.

Would you say he is at least “whelming” now?

The guys beating him are all-timers at the top. I feel worse for Kirk having to go out against Gable. Next year the only returning guys that are ranked higher currently are Trumble, and Feldman. Of course Bastida will be coming back at the age of 44, after ducking the competition this year, to attempt to challenge for that title, but Kueter could have a pretty good chance of winning it all the next couple years.

This whole Kueter thread isn’t going to age very well next year. The people bashing him have unrealistic expectations and have never wrestled. The kid is a stud. He is beating guys 30-40 lbs heavier than him on a consistent basis.

Joe Williams got teched by Pat Smith his freshman year and is considered one of our all time greats. Kueter is losing to generational talents. Take away his loss to Luffman who is no slouch and he is more than proving his worth.

I can also tell you without knowing Ben that he is harder on himself than any message board hero bashing him.

The amount of heat Kueter and Gabe are taking considering they’re FRESHMAN wrestling in weights with absolute hammers is mind boggling. Kueter is one exchange with luffman from being a clear cut 5 seed who I think could place as high as 4th. Schulze is the biggest concern outside the top 3 if he runs into him.
At 174 I think Gabe would be in a similar spot.

He's wrestled for gold on the world stage - the NCAA tournament is not going to be an issue for him.

100% agree with this. He’s athletic enough to eek one out vs Schultz but that’s not a great matchup for Ben. Schultz has size and a ton of experience. Trephan and Trumble are intriguing as well.

Maybe some of the matrix wizards can articulate how Kueter isn’t the 5. Lower than 6 is hard to see

I think he can beat all but 4-5 guys that’ll be there, and that’s no knock on him there’s just some grown ass men at the top. Hopefully it clicked this past weekend and he sees he can do it.

I think that number is 3. Everybody else has lost to more than the top 3 except Trephan but his schedule isn’t the strongest and I don’t think he’s AA’d

Yeah with Trumble losing in the ACC tournament his seed will take a big hit. Seeding should be something like:
#1 Steveson
#2 Kerkvliet
#3 Hendrickson
#4 Schultz
#5 Trephan or Keuter
Not trephan at the 4? He’s undefeated. And a conference champ. Add he beat Schultz. And Schultz has lost to both Trephan and Luffman. Would think that puts Ben over him.

I don’t know how the numbers the matrix spit out work but I would think they’re close enough for the committee to override this. 1 loss Kirk>undefeated Trephan.
Committee is usually loathe to put undefeated conference champs lower than any non-champs.

Precedent says trephan gets the 3.

I know it’s freestyle but last year Trephan wrestled Hendrickson at Nationals. Trephan got two quick takedowns pretty easily. Wyatt countered with a TD and ankle laced him like 30 times in a row for the win. Trephan is a big boy and could be a matchup problem for BK. FWIW.

Man that stinks. Three studs on a completely different planet….one of them on another planet by himself. Seeding is seeding but will be bummed if that’s how it plays out
