DeVries NOT a candidate for Iowa job. Ben McCollum the next Iowa HC?

Scott worries that if Iowa doesn't get its NIL situation fixed, it could end up being a bottom feeder. We just BARELY finished 15th in the B1G, after all.

$1.5M in NIL simply does not cut it.

Get Ben. Get NIL fixed. Good luck, Beth.

Check this out & watch:

Agreed. And DeVries is a really good coach but $5 million/year tells me they were desperate because his resume likely doesn’t warrant that.

$5M would put him as one of the top 10 to 12 paid coaches in the country.

Either he takes the job, or he wakes up with a severed horse head in his bed.

at least make it a pillow, which apparently you can buy

I’ve heard elsewhere that Indiana plans to take the average amount given to MBB by other B1G schools, and then double it. Iowa probably can’t do that, but until we grow NIL, it seems prudent to bump that number up a bit.

Iowa can do it, but no way in hell they would do it. Iowa is not going to take more money away from the football program and basketball should be happy with the scraps they do get from revenue sharing.

(13:28 mark). Some Travis Justice cringe. I hope the answer to his Iowa question was meant as a no comment, beacuse of the cringe.. But yea good guy, would be a fascinating hire. I hope all the talk about his interest has some merit.

Actually IU reset the MBB pay scale. The contract value for the next Iowa MBB coach just went up.

I wonder what Beth is offering.

This season, $5.0M puts you as one of the top 12 paid in the country.

Where Fran fell this season:

#38. TJ Otzelberger, Iowa State, $3.50M
#39. Mike Rhoades, Penn State, $3.50M
#40. Fran McCaffery, IOWA, $3.40M
#41. Chris Collins, Northwestern, $3.28M

It's been reported that the numbers that follow will be close to the standard model when it comes to revenue sharing.

Would Iowa really consider taking away from Iowa Football? Personally, I don't think so.

And don't forget: $3.6M divided equally by the 13 scholarship players = $276,923 each.

And then add in their NIL deals from SWARM.

B. Mac is the only answer here. Iowa will not get a big name coach due to NIL. Mac has built championship teams with little or zero NIL in Division II. He's the guy, bank on it.

NIL makes division I & II two totally different worlds,.. The new Iowa coach, whoever it is, will need more NIL money than what Fran was asked to work with...

NIL = Horse
Coach = Cart

I'm afraid that Iowa has put the cart before the horse here...

I acknowledge that the pressure is now on me to quickly up my Swarm contributions.
Since I can't drink the Swarm Beer, I will have to start dumpster diving for beer/pop cans.
If I can maintain 5.00/week in redemption center refunds, I should be able to reach my goal rapidly.

The goal is to make sure these kids are millionaires and set for life before they graduate!!! ;)

Yeah, not sure how much I read into it. Don't believe I've really ever seen a coach entertain questions about taking another job. In fact, seems like I've seen coaches say they aren't going anywhere.. and then they bolt.

Were they options 1 and 2 besides on the internet?
Who knows. Seems like a reasonable assumption but maybe Beth knew they were probably not likely and she's keeping her ultimate choice under wraps.

Just hope we end up with a good get. Who that is....no idea at this point.

Nobody had Lester on their radar when BF left and I like how that ended up. Hopefully we get a repeat.

FWIW Kakert and Leistikow have thrown out $2.5 million as Men's basketball share of the rev split.

Ben has a relationship with the WVU Athletic Director.....but unless the Iowa offer is horse manure, I can't imagine him turning it down
Just for the record, Wren Baker, the WVa AD, was at NW Missouri State from 2010-2013, so it's been 12 years since he and McCollum worked together. Baker did not hire McCollum, and McCollum's championship runs did not begin until after Baker left.

I'm sure they still have a strong familiarity with each other, but we have no reason to think they are particularly close.

Well, she is the athletic Director. When she got the job, much was said about her ability to navigate the new landscape. Translation: NIL. If she fired Fran without a solid plan to shore up bball’s NIL to lure a new coach it’s a major fail.
I will say that I was skeptical of Goetz's willingness/ability to make tough decisions. Now with the termination of Fran's contract, she has done enough for me to trust she has a plan on attaining one of her top candidates. Personally I am of the belief McCullom is her top candidate.

BTW....Nothing to base this on outside of deduction.

But if she really thought DeVries was the answer she could have moved on it last year. If money was a concern on DeVries, she again could have moved on it last year.

Then this season starts and McCullom begins to show he might be the real deal. Maybe in Dec/Jan she began locking in to Ben and by March the deal was pretty much done except for signing the deal.

The tell will be the speed things happen once Drake is done playing this season.

rumor is didn't even contact NIL people to see what they could do. if that is the case, then BM had to be her first choice, or she is just arrogant.

Do we know this? Do we know DD was her first choice? I don't recall seeing a press release from her saying as such.
No, we don’t know this. Just massive speculation from fans and media who “assumed” DeVries was the first choice.
