DJ Carton Could Still Be a Hawk

You do realize Iowa generally falls lower than that? No reason to even bring up ISU in this discussion until he mentions who he is actually looking at.
Huh? Iowa's historically had decent recruiting classes. At least the Hawks develop players better than the Clones.

Agree. I really don't read recruiting threads anymore, too busy being a dick in HROT, and I didn't see it mentioned in this thread, but my first thought is whether Carton has relationships forged with Iowa guys through high school/AAU. Given Iowa apparently wasn't in his top three, my suspicion is that none of the Iowa guys have a close relationship with Carton. Which makes your chemistry angle kind of concerning to me. This is the first year in forever that I didn't make a single game—had saved up for the NCAAs (sad face)—but watching throughout the year the thing that excited me most about not just this year but ensuing years is the chemistry, again, at least as it appears on TV. Wait, I was at the game in the Palestra. Forgot for a moment because I was thinking I hadn't been to Iowa City all winter.

Toussaint, to me, is the Bob Sanders of Iowa Basketball. His fearlessness and brashness remind me of the effect Bob had on pushing Iowa Football to a new level. I want three more years of Joe T.

Bingo! I think between the two of them, and with the others coming in, that Tousssaint is the better choice looking forward.

I could see the Nebraska angle...
1. They need him.
2. Hoiberg is very adept at collecting these misfit toys.
3. If you're looking for solitude Lincoln, Nebraska might be right up your alley.

Based off of CJ going down twice this season, JBo coming off of his surgery and recovery, I can see DJ transferring to Iowa and taking a schollie should a player transfer out or one of the incoming freshman not qualify. Lots of moving parts and hope DJ becomes a Hawk.

Look at last years final four teams. All had elite guard talent. You can never have too much talent at that position in college basketball.

Also, I think there's a very real possibility that Joe W pulls the Cook and just takes off before he's actually ready to go pro. Or a guy like Nunge leaves altogether since he will be a clear backup again next year. Or, god forbid, Garza goes pro. Not saying this is likely or I want it to happen, but unexpected things happen every single offseason.

I have a question..is there anything that makes anyone think he is even the slightest bit interested in coming to iowa?
Not to my knowledge or Iowa in him at this point, but I have zero sources so..... I actually hope we stick with the guys we have who seem to have a great chemistry.

I'll tell you what one of the things anxiety brings. If this is one of his problems he is having, he is having a very difficult time being away from home but mostly family and being able to sleep in your own bed. I have a close family member who has this issue and it's horrible feeling they go through. Can't sleep in a hotel, friends house, or anywhere without close family member with you or close by. Panic sets in and terrible thoughts run through your mind. I'm not saying this is what he has going on but if he does he needs to be driving distance to Bettendorf not Nebraska. I hope he ends up at Iowa and it all works out for DJ.

I do find it amusing that some posters are wringing their hands over having too much talent and that resulting in kids transferring out, it's probably the same people who regularly complain about our inability to bring in top talent. If we ever expect to run with the big dogs in college basketball these days, we're going to have to deal with kids regularly moving on when they find themselves out of the regular rotation. That's just the way this works in the real world folks.

Yeah, I agree completely. If this truly is about his mental health, and being closer to his support system, then I don't get how going to a different school (like Nebraska) solves that. It would make more sense for him to go to UNI.

I mean, according to everything we know, he had a great relationship with the Ohio State coach (I think it was hawkeyebob who had personal knowledge of his recruitment and said Holtman was the decisive factor in DJ picking OSU). Nothing on that front seems to suggest that relationship has been frayed.

I know someone posted a list of schools that have reached out to DJ and Iowa wasn't one of them. Perhaps there have been private talks between Fran and the Carton family (I'm not intimately familiar with NCAA rules) since DJ left Ohio State. Perhaps a lot still has to be figured out in terms of player defections, etc., to determine scholarship availability at Iowa. Perhaps that ship has truly sailed and no contact has been made by either Fran or the Carton family. Who knows.

But at this point, unless someone has firsthand knowledge, or DJ publicly says Iowa is not one of the schools under consideration, I'm not dismissing the possibility that DJ could end up at Iowa.

1) Obviously, there is already a relationship there from DJ's recruitment in high school.

2) Iowa is the closest P5 school to home.

3) I believe it was put out there that he and Joe Wieskamp were pretty cool at one point. I believe he and Patrick were also friends. Point being DJ knows a lot of the Iowa players.

Again, I have no inside information and am just speculating. But I will say this: If, and albeit that's a big if, DJ has interest in coming to Iowa, I can assure you Fran will find a way to make it work. In Fran's system, he'll take all the guards he can get. Especially a 5-star who seems to be a decent kid. I just cannot believe, especially as hard as Fran recruited DJ in high school, that he would tell the Carton family "sorry, not interested, we're full" if they were to reach out.

I do have inside ....He will not be a Hawk....move on...

Move on from what? My life won't be impacted one iota based on where DJ goes to school. It's just fun to speculate.

That's awesome you have inside info. You've certainly been crowing about it quite a bit. You're so special. We should all bow down to the awesomeness that is you.

You understand Iowa is developing guys and ISU is losing guys. That's a gigantic difference.

I'm not an ISU fan by any means, but I find it comical that people here continue to rag on their program. For shits sake they are going to have a top 10 pick this year. I just can't follow why many are begging for trolls to show up.
Why does this matter when they win 12 games?

Might be better if you move on and don't click on any threads involving Carton.
Maybe you are his dad and know for sure, but that will not change the speculation on this board.
If you can't elaborate more don't get into a pissing match with other posters. click another thread and move on.

Yeah but that's pretty damn far from Bett if he really wants to be closer, I'm worried about illini or wiscy

Well, spent a little FB time with one of my last remaining IC guys that are close to the program. The word was a mutual lack of interest. Our guys said he would see Nebraska as slumming. Probably headed out of the Big Ten.

I'm guessing the ACC or the Big East.

I really don't think Wisky ball is his style
Wisconsin is in a similar position with respect to scholarships and guards. However, I would not be surprised, styles withstanding, if there hasn’t been some contact between them.

This article smacks of a "me first" attitude / recruiting conditions that caused the IA staff and players to not be interested.

Great to see Iowa walk away on him...
I definitely agree. Top schools being ia st, drake, Nebraska. All 3 schools not good, and he would instantly be “the man”. The article saying if Haliburton stays at isu that would be a deterrent for him going there...really, he wouldn’t want to play with an NBA talent that makes the team better? Screams selfish to me. The real concern for me is, did he use mental health as an excuse to step away from the team and basically guarantee he can transfer without missing a year?
That being said, glad IA didn’t offer, really like the chemistry of the team and seems like everyone we have now has a team first attitude, would have hated to potentially hurt that chemistry!

Hmmm. Watch Creighton here. Per this Sunday's OWH, they would have room for DJ. Let it Fly offense very player friendly. Omaha w/i 4-5 hrs driving time for 17-19 home games plus reachable away games in Milwaukee, Chicago,Indianapolis and Cincy. Wish the best for him.

Creighton had two future pro players in their backcourt in Ty-Shon Alexander and Marcus Zegarowski, and another high quality guard in Mitch Ballock. Alexander has an NBA decision to make this offseason, but two are juniors and one is a sophomore.

If being “the guy” is what Carton is looking for, Creighton doesn’t make much sense for next year at least

You forget about Creighton who was in arguably the best conference in the country this year and ended up in the top 10 at the end of the year? You must not follow basketball besides Iowa.

If that article has any truth, Holtman must’ve promised him the moon. Fran probably told him he’d have to earn his minutes. If his main concern is showcasing himself for the NBA then he can go pound sand imho.
For real. With an attitude like that - if true, he better hope the scouts plan on watching the NIT, no matter what team he targets.

Stop right there & say no more.

You saying the Big East might be the best conference in the country tells me everything I need to know about your b-ball IQ.
