DJ Carton Could Still Be a Hawk

Illinois makes sense especially if/when Ayo leaves

I thought the same thing. If being close to home is a major factor for DJ, which all the clues say it is, then Champaign is one of the best options outside of IC.

A quick google search showed Champaign as a little under a 3 hour drive from Bettendorf, about the same distance as LAMES and Madison.

None of them can beat that drive to Iowa City though . . .

I could have sworn he was talking about Burlington, Iowa. The only city where people will travel 250 miles to get murdered there.

I doubt it. I think he goes somewhere else. Illinois is pretty set at guard, too. Frazier and Griffin returning along with Williams. Adding a five star shooter in Miller, and the point guard will almost certainly be Andre Curbelo.

If he wanted to come, just like Iowa, it would be hard to turn down a five star guard. I would think he would want to go somewhere where he runs the team.

Agree. Miller and Curbelo.... No way Carton is going to want to deal with that competition. Those guys are both top shelf guards. Frazier... meh.

"Griffin?" Lol. He gawn, bro. Don't you read the interwebs? Probably to Duke to play with his little brother.

Lost Tev Jones too. Ouch. Do these guys not dig Underwood?

Not to make this statement into a pissing match, but when was D.J. elevated to a 5 star recruit, was it before he made his choice of Ohio State or after? Can't believe he was a 5 star and Joe Wieskamp was not....granted they play different positions but in my opinion Wheeze is the better player...as I've said earlier Iowa has plunty of point guards, D.J. would not enjoy sitting on the bench watching JBo, Fredrick, Toussaint, Connor, or Ulis....

I think Carton will go to the Pre Draft camps for feedback (if we have one this year). If he isn't granted an immediate transfer, I don't see him transferring and sitting out a year. I could see an NBA team taking a second round shot on him. Off to the D League. If hes a D League guard he will have opportunity to show off

One of my favorite aspects of this Iowa team is their chemistry. From all accounts, there is a high level of friendship, accountability, support, and leadership.

For this reason, I think Iowa would be a great fit for Carton. I question whether Carton would be a good fit for Iowa.

Either way, he is a very talented player and I hope he lands in the right spot for him this time.

It is likely a moot point as he will have lots of opportunities on where to go, but if he did chose Iowa, his level of talent would not have him sitting behind the entire list you have above.

Scuttlebutt is that Illinois will have several openings

No “scuttlebut”

Tevian Jones and Alan Griffin both entered the transfer portal yesterday. Griffin to play with his little brother at Duke. Tevian probably to Arizona.

Both really good players. So sad. lol.

Although if it was anyone but Illinois I would say it sucks that Duke and the blue bloods not only get the best incoming recruits, they can now also pick and choose among proven players from other schools. The rich get richer...

but ... it’s Illinois so... yay!
