Downey headed to HWC and IOWA 2nd Semester

The way I look at it, is that if he gets his act together and performs well in life and the classroom and AAs as a Hawkeye, Brands looks like a fantastic coach, it's a great story and turns out great for future recruiting. If he does what everyone predicts and f*cks up either in school or in his personal life, then he's at Iowa for only a couple of months, then out of the program and we move on, nothing lost.

Minimal downside with big upside. He's not going to become a cancer or destroy the culture of our program in 3 months, and Tom and Terry would never let it get to that point to begin with.

I think this is a poor decision and an unnecessary risk by our staff. Still, I hope it works out for us and for Downey. But I don't think it is this simple -- "if it works great, if not we cut the strings". Someone else mentioned it before, other coaches will use this to recruit against us. Spencer already mentioned that he experienced negative recruiting. This only provides more ammunition.

Not sure this fits the narrative of most of the negative recruiting done against us. In fact it actually probably helps.

You do realize there are 9 other guys in the line up to root for and that you don't have to like Downey, correct? Just curious, are you going to take up the "Unattached Assassin" mantle now that Downey gave it up? ;)

As for Brands "fake I care about morals" thing, eat a dick. I don't like it either but I don't presume to know what is floating around in TnT's head and heart. You shouldn't either.

To bring in this piece of trash shows a complete lack of morals and an arrogance that they can "control" him when no one else has been able.

And to tell me to eat a dick haha I don't care whatsoever. You can keep supporting a guy who doesn't release a backup (yet you jumped all over Cael for doing so with a starter) and brings in Downey (yet you jumped all over Cael for doing so with Long). I'm not a hypocrite, I keep a strong line.

I can't wait for his dad to get on here and embarrass this fan base, him to post some more nudes, knockout a co-ed at a bar, and you guys to keep on supporting him because he could still win a title. I'll keep my morals and disassociate with the program until he's not around anymore.

BS 2nd
Kem 2nd
Bull 4th
Young 5th

I know those are all best case but hey a fella can dream right? That would put us right there with the evil empire wouldn't it?

Love it, I definitely need what you are smoking

I was wondering what blochem was until I put my glasses on and saw the I. (its terrible to get old) I thought it was funny you mentioned genetics considering we havent heard from PD2. Is part of the deal he is banned from this board. Also since you are becoming and expert, how much of PD3,s behavior is learned and how much is programmed?:)

Expert is quite the stretch, but...I would guess like father, like son.

I dont think physically 197 is the right fit for him and he doesn't want to battle guys that big. He's more naturally a 184 and he'll be really strong for that weight class. I hope it works out, he's a talent that's fun to watch.
Would love to see Downey take out Bo at 84.
That's one guy Bo would definitely not wanna go upper body funk with

Plea bargaining is definitely a learned behavior

Hell has officially frozen over. Can't say I'm not disappointed. Laughing stock status.

Obviously Brands don't give a you know what, of what you think. Go run your own program and due as you like.

Welp I guess I will be looking for a new team to root for. I think I will continue that until the Brands and their fake "I care about morals" bs are gone.

Good Riddance, See ya, and stay where ya end up.

Not a big fan of Downey's social media presence either, but win you start to impugn Coach Brands' morals over Downey, I gotta speak up. IMHO, Tom is emotive, but he has a pretty solid moral compass. My guess is that he really laid down the law to Downey this time. One screw-up and you won't have to fret about Downey anymore. Lst chance. We'll see if he can change.
So is it goodbye from you then? As AZ says, bite a bratwurst on your way out.

New name suggestions:
FairWeatherDayHawk18
BandWagonHawk18

I do not always agree with every decision made by "our" team but having PD3 on the team will not cancel a lifetime of following one of the richest wrestling tradition in college sports. I will continue to be a fan this year and in the future. Go Hawks!!!!

So I too agree with the Go EAD reference from others on this board.

Quote of the year award goes to aschief.
(Eat a dick). Lol

I am also against Downey coming here as well for a variety of reasons. I have made those known. I think Tom knows that a lot of fans are against it. Guess what though? I hope Tom, the staff, the team and Downey prove me wrong. That's the difference between you and me. I would rather be wrong and see someone change and be successful under the guidance of one the best coaches in the sport. You? I get the feeling that you are itching for the day where you can come back and say "I told you so." Until that day...feel free to take your toys elsewhere...all of this is voluntary.

Hell froze over for me when Iowa failed to win a title for three straight years, and it has only gotten colder since then. If this means there is openness among the coaching staff to new ways of thinking, whether due to Perry or simply the sting of losing, mark me down as strongly in favor.

I don't think KJ had control of many at ISU. That's why he had good recruits with poor or no results, and then got fired.
I'd say TNT has a little better track record.

Yet again, Tarp has nailed it.

I respect your stance and your decision to stick with it.
A lot of people these days can be wishy washy. You hold firm. Good for you man.
Hope you reconsider after a while.
PDIII has more flaws than the usual college athlete, but he still might be worth redeeming.

So not only are you unwilling to root for the Hawks you are actually rooting for him to fail and for this all to blow up on the program? Why, so you can say I told you so?

I'm a Hawk fan through and through and my allegiance certainly hasn't waivered, but I'm extremely disappointed in the decision. I can honestly say that the character of the starting Hawks makes it that much more fun and emotional to root for them. Our guys are a likeable bunch and we have a history of having likeable, solid kids from good families. I like rooting for tough, good character guys. Not petulant meatheads. To each his own Tarp, but I'm not a win at all costs kind of a guy. I'm worried that PDIII could tarnish the program. Look at what PDIII said about Jackson and Iowa St program before the season started and how he laid them all out after he f-d it up and blasted them all over social media. I want the absolute best for the Hawkeye wrestling program and PD III ain't it. This is one of the storied programs in all sports and we are simply better than this. We're not supposed to be a punch line.

Tarp is a well established win at all cost guy. I don't agree with it, and that's not (in general) what Iowa athletics is all about, but that's his prerogative.

I support Day's decision as well and credit him for it. I do believe his reason is valid. Though I am considerably disappointed in this decision, I'm not there. I like hell PD has turned the corner and represents himself and Iowa well.

Well said Chief.

I'm okay with Dayhawk's decision as well. Many of the things he has said are true, and he doesn't have to apologize. I'll continue to cheer for the Hawks, because I've been a fan of everything Iowa my entire life, and that isn't going to change because of one wrestler. I don't like the move, but will hope that it works out well for all parties involved.

I hope he proves me wrong but he's never been able to do so. If it doesn't happen this year, then it'll be next year and it'll be Iowa's fault. I won't come back on here and say I told you so (well maybe I will once just to rub it in everyone's face who called me a fair weather fan and told me to eat a dick).

I just don't support bringing this guy with the momentum we have. He's the worst character in college wrestling that I've seen. When he won his JUCO title, he wasn't going to practice, smoking weed daily, drinking all the time, etc. Nothing changed in D1. He's a thug from the street who will never be more than that.

I strongly disagree with your first paragraph. Iowa Wrestling is far different than the rest of Iowa athletics. It's what makes this program different. Tough, hard nosed, in your face, win at all cost guys.
