Iowa wrestling is not a "win at all cost" program. Not now, not ever--even by adding Downey.
That's pretty sweet but 10 of those points wouldn't be awarded in folkstyle. I'm not claiming Downey is a better wrestler though, FWIW.
Do I have you down for $50 for Wrestling for Life? (Cowboy told me he would match all bets.)

I guess the part I don't understand is why someone with such clear moral superiority would come back even after the Brands and their fake morals are gone? The same sequence of events would have still taken place in the program. By coming back aren't you supporting the history of the program? I mean I fully understand the stance and position of leaving and that is anyone's right but when you come back because they are gone what is the logic? " I didn't support the decision but now that it is over and they are gone; the program is okay by me?".
I am not a fan of bringing in Pat. I am also not privy to all of the information.Giving a seventh ish chance would not be the call I would make but I am not making the call. No matter the outcome be it a national champion or a full on social media double dumpster fire it won't define the program for me either way. I choose to not close my eyes and pretend like this isn't happening. I will not turn my back on all the marks on the wall and all the men in the room over one decision. Thankfully for you this did not happen last year or all the stuff Cory Clark is made of would be lost to you. Does this negate all that the program was, is, and can be in your eyes?
If I was SO certain that I was willing to fight this to its very core then I would not give an inch. You could NEVER get me back. I can dislike some Tom Ryan but still love me some Kyle Snyder even before he was at Oh St. I don't have to agree with the POTUS but I will still support the Troops. I may REALLY want to go all 3 stooges on the bald guy out east (poke him in the eyes and slap his dome) but damn do I really like Nolf and the way he goes about his business. #Kemdawg kick his @$$.
What I will not do is give a guy the FU and then come back later and say we are good... unless I am wrong; in which case I will man up and say so { in your case you come back and say "I was Right" and now I can like the program again} OR unless it was a heat of the moment thing and no big deal.....in which case, what the hell are we really talking about here?

I'm not a Penn St. fan. But funny you mention the team you wish you were half as good as. Bring in all the dirt bag losers you despised before they were hawks... You're still maybe the 5th best team in the country.

But your comments make it clear you're not paying attention when it comes to Downey. We have a good percentage of fans expressing their displeasure.
If it isn't right, it's not far off. Also, one doesn't have to be a criminal to earn that distinction but in this case he does have a criminal record. I very much hope to see him turn it around.
What a blindingly inaccurate post. I have pretty much stayed out of the Downey to Iowa debate, but I can't ignore this ridiculous attempt to attack this board as a whole.
I would say there is an overwhelming amount on here that don't want Downey at Iowa and the rest aren't exactly cheering in the streets. However, most are diehard fans of the team, and now that Downey appears to be a done deal, they are going to support Iowa and hope it all works out. That is what fans are supposed to do.
Simply put, the POS, mcrib, pot-smoking, non-practicing, revenge pornologist did all of that before he became a Hawkeye. He will get begrudging support, but if he slips up, this board will eat him alive!
Good to see you back EV (PD3 has earned dirtbag status but no one is beyond redemption. It will be a great credit to TnT if the Frankenstein experiment works out.)

So should I assume you're supporting the HWC? Because if you're really interested in helping to put Iowa wrestling back on top, that's the best way to help make it happen. Based on your answer, I'd guess not. Giving to Iowa Athletics in general does pretty much nothing to help the wrestling program specifically.
It's unfortunate that you're offended by efforts to raise funds for the HWC, but the alternative is to sit on our hands and let other top programs keep kicking our butts. Lots of us are finished with sitting on our hands and refuse to be idle. As a big donor, I'd think you'd prefer to step up and make a difference. I challenge you to do so. hwcdonor.com
Forgive me for my skepticism about fans taking offense to efforts to put their favorite program back on top of the sport. I don't have a lot of sympathy for that cynical point of view. There are lots of Iowa wrestling supporters busting their butts these days, spending a lot of time, effort, and their own money, to make it happen. It's just a matter of time. When it does happen, it will be a lot more f*** for fans who know they've been an important part of the effort. There's no better time to join the f*** than the present.

Guess you didn't read the thread. This is an individual who has repeatedly threatened to quit being a Hawk fan if Downey was on the team. He has said it twice in this thread and a bunch on others.
That's a giant load of hogwash. The wrestling program runs a deficit of hundreds of thousands of dollars and the HWC doesn't exist without it. Without folks giving to the athletic department both suffer.
Also, badgering someone for not donating is, in short, a major league douche move. Not a good look, WDM.
No, it's not hogwash at all. If you want to help the wrestling program specifically, you give specifically to the wrestling program. The best way to specifically help the wrestling program is to give to the HWC. One other approach would be to give to the facility. There will be lots of opportunities for that very soon.
As a poster who is known for badgering other fans and has a long history of rude, condescending, pompous, insulting, cynical posts, that's some incredibly rich stuff coming from you. I wasn't badgering anyone. I was explaining the rationale behind the fundraising effort in response to a fan who took offense to it and challenging him/her to be a part of the solution.
EDIT: This last paragraph was an exercise in stupidity on my part. I'm not going to delete it, because I deserve to leave it up there for being dense enough to post it in the first place. My apologies to SPOONER for the idiotic overreaction, and my apologies to Hawk Sox, also. I'm sure you're both great fans and fine people. I was overly sensitive and a boob. This whole effort on behalf of Iowa wrestling needs to be 100% positive, and I failed miserably here. My bad!

Why what he said is the truth giving to Iowa Athletics and being a season ticket holder is more important to Iowa wrestling than the HWC.If you want to give fine because there are enough threads on here looking for money.
I am against the whole PDIII to Iowa thing. Based on all he has done - even very recently, he seems beyond redemption. I just don't see TnT being able to change him long term. That said, I am hoping for a miracle and PDIII seeing the light (and Jesus) and turning his life around. I just don't see a positive outcome from all of this and think this will end up reflecting badly on Iowa. Winning is certainly important, but not at this level of risk.
Your claim of "basically nothing" is most definitely hogwash. The HWC very well might be more important but but that wasn't your claim. To have a strong program, it is all important.
As for the rest of your post, I'm mostly just an idiot fan on a message board. Yeah, I buy tickets and give a few bucks but it is all next to nothing compared to hundreds or thousands of others. Given your fundraising role with the HWC you need to hold yourself to a higher standard. I don't like hawkssox1 as a poster in the least but your post was completely over the top.
Now, all that said, I appreciate your post edit and sincerely thank you for all you are doing for the wrestling program.
