Drake Ayala to Iowa

157? Where do you get this stuff from?

This was just his 3rd season and they have improved every year. And given his patience with KJ and the fact they were not going to get Ayala, I don't think this is a factor one way or the other. No doubt, they are not recruiting well and we may see a shakeup on the staff.

shakeup or run away from the dumpster fire?

My mind and I do believe it’s the first time I’ve ever said “this stuff”. You must have me confused with other people you try to internet run over. Sorry man.
If he’s 65, awesome and great! Remember Spoon, opinions are like a**holes, right? We all got one...

Now, there’s some major league logic if I’ve ever seen it.

Get tender much?

This. I expect Pat to be a career 65, maybe 74 his senior year. Will be interesting to see what happens if he needs a gap year(due to Marinelli and Kem getting this year back). Dude is gonna win 3 titles.
Unfortunately, it's unlikely winter sports are going to get this year back.

Logic? None here. I’m calling myself an a**hole by way of linking my opinion to the old saying. And I’m tender? I get called far worse at my employment. I had an opinion on it, it wasn’t shared. Spoon did have me confused as I don’t believe I’ve ever shared this particular opinion yet. All good. I hope Kennedy is a 4x at whatever weight(s) he ends up at. He’s gonna be special, as well as Drake will.

I think the easiest thing to do is allow any athlete who has a RS available to use it for this past season, but I doubt that happens

Never thought of that, but would they need to void this years statistics hence cancelling Spencer’s Hodge chance?

Even if Kem gets this year back (which I doubt) there's no way he'll get a hardship year on top of that. So next year is pretty much the last year for Kem.

Oh yeah, and I forgot the purpose for this thread. Great get for the Hawks! Ayala is big time!

Finally some good news. Damn Hawks are recruiting really well. I was worried that Nationals getting cancelled before Iowa could win it and shine on national TV could hurt them, but getting this kid right out of the proverbial gate is great!

I don’t think the medical year would have anything to do with the extra year granted due to the pandemic. If it gets granted, I think he’ll still receive the medical year. There’s no reason why he should be penalized because he and others got the bonus year.

DTripp - I totally disagree on MK. There is no question he would get the medical. And they need to judge that with or without whether the cancellation grants some blanket extra year. MK missed a year due to medical before the cancellation so they are mutually exclusive. So under your theory he gets a medical for missing last year if they don’t give a virus extra year to everyone but if they do then he won’t get a medical for the year he missed? No way they can do that.

Great news!
Can someone give us a good scouting report on drake? Anyone be reminds you of? Strengths weaknesses?

Elite technician, mentally tough, very mature, and just a winner. Won Fargo like 4 years ago for the first time. He’s been elite for many years and just keeps getting better. High school isn’t even a challenge for him anymore. Kid is for real. Nobody is Spencer Lee elite, but there I don’t think there will be a huge drop-off from Spencer to Drake. Of course it will be significant because Spencer may be the best 125 we ever see. I expect Drake to be competing for national titles from the word go.

Any concerns about missing on Robbie Howard are long gone.

EDIT: Forgot to comment on weaknesses. I’ll list them here:

I thought you were done hammering ISU. I miss the sweet lovable Mitch. :)
You missed the memo.. That pledge lasted until Nattys was over. So it was moved up a week.

If you read the ISU forums, outside of Broderson... the fans aren't overly optimistic that help is on the way. Reports are Gremmel graduated in December and might not return. Where does Gomez slot in if he even returns to the lineup? Depending on how the NCAA rules on eligibility... they lose a lot of firepower after 20/21.

With all the teams that "punted" this season with ORS, there's no way in hell ISU sniffs top ten next year. The climb back to relevance appears to have hit a few speed bumps.
Sorry to derail the topic.
But this thread is about the newest great Hawkeye recruit.

My wife doesn't understand why I'm standing in the middle of the room doing this. She just doesn't get it. Dummy.

ISU fans are blaming Sebolt for steering wrestlers to Iowa. Not sure how that works when ISU is whiffing on more out of state than in-state kids. Maybe kids want to wrestle for the No. 1 team in the country in front of the most and best fans. I know ISU lives in delusion and excuses but why would anyone go there over Iowa? ISU is offering full rides and starting spots and no takers. There is something so very wrong in Ames to at least not get someone. Better hope the virus doesn’t shut down the 7-11’s or they may not have enough bodies in the upcoming years.

LOL, I'm sure former Cyclone Sebolt is going out of his way to have kids go to Iowa. Sounds like a typical deal for them.

They're venting and looking to blame someone, other than the coaching staff, for the recruiting failures.

It seems Ft. Dodge kids go everywhere BUT ISU. Maybe the kids figure the drive from Ft. Dodge to Ames to too long for family.

MVP - totally agree. Just shows the level of delusion of the fans and the state of the program. We are getting the best guys from the best club in Iowa run by an ISU alum wrestler. Maybe they should hire Sebolt! Cause hiring Carr only got them 1 wrestler, his son. At least ISU has cross country.

Mitch - don’t worry they are a 7-6 unranked in all years under Matty “football school.” Losers of 17 of the last 20 contests against big brother but ISU is the “Bear.” But a storm is brewing. Their AD will be sending letters, getting on twitter, and doing billboards soon enough. The way they keep losing basketball players and missing on wrestling recruits the 7-11’s better stay open in Ames.

I can put it another way if you'd like. What makes you believe he's a 157?

Awesome. Good to see the intel I posted was correct. ISU has struck out the side again. No Drake, Caleb or AF which were their biggest targets. Monster get for the Hawks and another disaster in Ames. Looks like a coaching job wasn’t available to KD for a family member of Drake’s. Getting just pathetic in Ames and we have a stud to walk in at 25. Great work by the staff.
It wasn't a family member ISU was trying to get on staff for two of the Iowa commits you mentioned.

See that way generates conversations. Opinions are just that, so I went and watched his matches I could find again with a more focus on his body and the idea of 57 is far fetched, more power to ya. He seems like the Bull with maybe slightly shorter arms and not quite as tall but thicker at this age. Which is also why in the other reply’s I conceded to the idea of 65.
