Fran hates Toussaint! Told you

With this team, what exactly could be done differently? Joe T is just not that good. Kris M. Is not Keegan. They have no true big. Tony P is a scorer but is not a shooter. They need someone to keep everyone from sagging down on Keegan. Like it or not that’s JB.

It would be nice if this team had guards that could shoot but Keegan scored in traffic all day.

Jbos presence is mostly a non factor besides the possessions where he decides to force up an airball.

Keegan did a great job scoring in traffic today. That was when he has one or two guys to go against. It is harder to drive the lane when the other team can put five guys in the lane because they do not need to respect Iowa shooting from the outside. Payton and to some extent Kris and Patrick have shown that they are not afraid to take a shot and can keep the other teams from packing in the defense. Tony, Ahron and Joe have not been able to make shots from the outside enough to force teams to guard them at the three point line. Jordan has not done it this year, but other teams still respect his shot and do not leave him alone on the three point line.

Here is our lineup dilema....

Bohannon, Toussaint, and Ulis all need minutes and problem we've run into is defending BigTen backcourts with Toussaint 6'0" and Bohannon 6'1"

The decision was made after the PSU game that the Bohannon at SG wasn't working as they hoped and wanted to try JBo back at PG and to get Perkins/Ulis more time defending bigger guards (Willis for one)

My guess is going forward it's going to be JBo with Ulis/Perkins more at the 2G Toussaint can spell JBo but the 2nd problem we've run into is when we don't have JBo on the court (Ulis/Perkins or JT/Perkins) teams have been playing packed in zones and keeping the ball out of Murray's hands and really causing our offense to grind to a halt.

My person feeling is that when Toussaint is in at PG we need to have Sandfort or Kris Murray playing the 2G so we have a 3pt threat.

My line-ups going forward

PMac / CMac - Sandfort
Ke.Murray / Kr Murray
Rebraca / Kr Murray
Perkins / Ulis - Sandfort
JBo / Toussaint / Ulis
The solution to Bohannon poor defense is to sit Toussaint? How about sit the weak link?

The premis that Bohannon needs to play for any particular reason is not true.

If teams go zone you put Keegan, Kris, Pat, Sandfort and JT/Ulis at PG.

Zone is solved.

Why do you post stuff like this? Of course nobody wants Iowa to lose. Yes, we did some good things but we won on the back of our best player. Murray dominated. Patrick is starting to develop. Bohannon was not great and has been poor throughout the conference season. Does it not make sense to question why he got 36 minutes and our starting pt guard is relegated to 3rd string? If it’s about trying to make a run and win games in the tournament do you think we can do this with him getting 36 minutes?
You just bombed all of the dumbasses.

Wow, this isn’t a mic drop, this is a mic bodyslam/suplex/smash through the floor!

Just stop. Thats not a real thing.

1 guy locking down Bohannon has a minimal effect on spacing at best.

Kris and Patrick are obviously not afraid to shoot.

JBo came back to be our sharpshooter. He isn’t living up to the expectations especially in conference play with his lackluster % and continues to be a liability on D. Hence the first half MN guards went off on him and like Monday when teams can like psu did continually isolate when they could in both OTs. JoeT suppose to be our primary ball handler. Push the tempo when he can and be our guy in D to stick on opposing teams guards to try and lock them down. For most part joet has done his job when playing. Assist to turnover rate is better this year, he’s looking to facilitate and find the other guys, not jacking up lot of bad shots and has played his typical tough D.

Yet JBo not only continues to plays normal min but sees uptick in minutes, handed the pg duties after a 0-5 game and follows up with a 2-7 performance. Meanwhile joet gets 6 min. And we get to see a Perkins Bohannon back court start a game off which I pray we don’t ever see again because obvious first 5 min of each half it wasn’t working.

Bottom line is Fran does not like Joe's game, I think we can all agree on that. If you don't think Joe has the quickest hook on the team you have not been watching.

Moving forward it will really surprise me if he breaks out of the 5-10 min a game mold unless an injury happens, which is kind of depressing because I think he is one of my favorite players to root for. He creates shots on offense and disrupts on defense. Nobody hustles more and he looks like he has fun playing the game. Hope he keeps his confidence up

Most beautiful air baller in America though.

I had to pause this game to show my wife JBo’s most awesome air ball this year!

So many to choose from though.

Last season you would have been correct about the quick hook, but not this season. Hopefully, there isn't a return to it. It's pretty much been that Joe starts the half and then Ulis finishes it. I'm not defending that arrangement, only observing it.

It's a dumb arrangement. Joe T shoots above 80% from the free throw line. I just don't get it.

Would've been even less if toussaint played. He leads the team in steals, but for some reason our starting point guard didn't play the whole second half. What happened to Fran's, "loyalty?"

I've got a lot of questions on this topic from today's game:

One guy played 35 min, went 2-7 from 3, had 1 assist, 1 steal and 2 boards. His primary responsibility in man to man had 19 pts.

One guy had 6 minutes, had 2 steals, 1 assist and 0-1 from the field.

Some other dude led our team in +/- with +16 and played 14 minutes.

We don't know if something was wrong with Joe. We will see come next game.

I believe the guys and coaches interact well behind closed doors. Fans do not need to know everything. Only problem I see here is PR on the coaching staffs part. Which frankly isn't necessary, but in todays overreacting world probably is.

Jordan is a 2 in a 1’s body. Unfortunately the only way he gets up shots is when he runs the point. I was hoping that he’d move on prior to him coming back in order for the younger guards to develop.

Now that he’s here, the choice is to allow him to play the 1, at least some minutes, or to allow him to flounder at the 2. Fran’s not going to sit him.

Ulis, Perkins, and Joe T are incomplete players as well. Much better on the defensive end but Iowa sacrifices offense when they’re in.

Here’s what would help immensely. Play Murray/Murray at least 30 minutes/game. Pat is coming on strong so he deserves at least 25. The other positions on the floor, although not optimal, need to be figured out on a game to game basis.

You are correct; there are issues with JBo's, Ulis' and Perkins' games, but for some reason all of the blame and focus is put on JBo.

Bottom line is this: Fran is doing what he thinks will not only win the game but will get his team positioned for the NCAA Tournament. And lets face it; if we don't make the Big Dance, you know the "experts" on here will bitch nonstop about that.

Speaking of our offense grinding to a halt, they said during the broadcast Iowa is the worst 3 point shooting team in the B1G. I knew we were bad from 3, but not that bad.

There are a lot of issues with this year's team. We were picked by all major media outlets to finish either 9th or 10th in the B1G. We are seeing why.

Fran hates Joe and won play him because he hates him.
Unless Fan adopts Joe, then the only reason he plays him is because of nepotism.

yet none of you have coached a game that mattered in your life

some of us see that.
In today’s “long term” college basketball world, you have exactly until the end of the current year. The transfer portal has changed everything.

In conference play only, Iowa is 6th in OE(low for normal Iowa teams) and 6th in DE(higher than normal Iowa teams). I think most of us predicted bubble/middle of the pack. It’s certainly trending that way. Why all of the angst and anger?

because frans decisions on who he plays and what he accepts on defense has lead to perpetual mediocracy.
You will accept that a team with the national player of the year, another NBA Draftee, another potential player of the year and likely NBA draftee, the "best 3pt shooter in B10 history?", and another 4 star player were just average. But you go thinking fran knows best.

Not always, you have to watch the games and see, but this year it isn't very often where he is helping the team out there.
I agree.
it's also easier to hurt your team on defense than help on offense. Yesterday jordan was ok on defense in the second half. Just ok. Those defending him loved to point out that someone shot over joe t and they made the basket. Yep joe kept his guy in front of him and they had to fall away to make a basket. Curtis loewe had a good first half... If joe had been guarding Loewe and he score that many we wouldn't have seen him in the second half.....???? oh wait.

Because, because, because, JBo!!!!!
I'll be happy to explain this to you. People are focused on Jbo's minutes because;

Jbo has the worst shooting efficiency in the starting lineup.

The player he apparently just replaced at the starting PG position, shoots a higher percentage, doles out more assists, gets more rebounds, and generates steals at one if the highest rates in the league.

Jbo has the worst PER on the team at 6.9 vs 15.7 for Joe.

Jbo is averaging way more minutes than any other guard on the team and was apparently just awarded the starting point guard position because he was so ineffectual at the 2.

So I'll ask you Fran. What should the focus be on today if not Fran's handling of the point guard position?
