Hurricane season has arrived....

They can’t just tax everyone and trying to add it onto future insurance purchases will just destroy the insurance market.

The ‘tax’ is going to be surcharges on everyone else with insurance. It will result in higher rates, to account for the costs.

My point is that is how the law is currently structured, it won’t be a bailout response, the bailout is preloaded.

Saying that Citizens can’t legally go insolvent isn’t saying there is a free lunch out there, it’s saying we already know where that bill is going.

?

Perry got the eye and had winds at 55mph and gusts 99mph.

Media hypes these a teeny bit, as the Weather Channel was still hollering about 140mph winds when I could see what Perry’s airport was registering after eye wall had passed.

I remember seeing the exact same thing with Ian. You could see the eye wall pass over the Ft. Myers airport, and the winds registered weren’t anywhere close to the fear porn on TV.
FWIW, airport anemometers are not rated to measure wind speeds of major hurricanes. Airports would be shut down long before those kind of wind speeds. Some even have a top rated wind speed as low as 65 MPH. Maybe Perry was rated at 100 MPH?

Now have 2’ of
Flooding is bad in Pinellas and the Bay Area.
You good, Solar?
sorry been running around all day trying to restock on supplies and whatnot. Got about 4 feet of water in the main level. Our jeep is fine but my work truck outside looks to be fvcked from the water. Also, fvcking asshole Pinellas Co isn’t allowing anyone reentry to the ****ing islands. Even residents! My wife is at home alone and I’ve been sitting at the cop blockade for 3 hours waiting to get in. I’m fvcking steaming right now.

Completely possible with respect to the max gust, but the wind measurement remains in proportion.

If you don't think they pimp the most dramatic, albeit outdated, superseded, and less relevant facts to maintain audience for their sponsors we'll just disagree.

BTW, it was also more inline with what the buoy the storm passed over (I posted this in realtime last night) registered for wind as well:

BTW, in case you're wondering about the measurement limit on the buoys' anemometer, it registered peak gusts in line with the Perry airport too:

Jeebus, you just won't let up w/ the idiocy here.

The explanations have been posted for you.

Isn't @billanole in the Ashville area?

He’s up there somewhere. I don’t know the exact location.

Boone has bad flooding.

My father is in Blowing Rock. He has a neighbor’s tree leaning against his deck. There was a tornado night before last, apparently unrelated to Helene, that went 1.2 miles from his house but never touched down.

Guys, Citizens (or any standard HO policy) does not cover flooding. It covers fire, theft, wind, etc. but not flooding. You have to purchase a separate policy (which is federally subsidized) for flood damage.

RUTHERFORD COUNTY, N.C. (WSPA) – Rutherford County Emergency Management said all residents below the Lake Lure Dam should evacuate immediately.

Officials said failure of the dam is “imminent.” Residents should evacuate to higher ground.

As of 3:45 p.m., officials said water was going over and around the dam wall.

Emergency management said that while structural supports have been compromised, the dam is currently holding.

Evacuation sirens are sounding downstream of the dam and emergency personnel are going door to door to ensure that everyone has been evacuated.

Rutherford County officials said they are waiting on the arrival of high-clearance vehicles from the state of North Carolina before they resume evacuations as Highway 64/74 is currently impassible at Lattimore Road.

Anyone above Lattimore Road should shelter in place until evacuations can resume.

We dropped our flood policy after having for 5 years. By the time you pay flood premium ~ $5k, first $50k deductible was on you then at ~ $200k they cap you. So for us first $55k was on us with potential to have up to $150k covered. Then if you have a claim the HO policy and flood policy companies point fingers at each other if caused by water or wind and who's responsible. Then you hire a personal adjuster and it's a long drawn out process. Have been through all this with Ian. We are in flood zone AE, 9' above sea level and barely missed getting water in house. Neighbors had it.

We have special riders for dock, lift and cage. Those are the biggest threats for damage. Dock and lift you have to prove it's wind and not water that caused damage so need live cameras on it.

Brother in law is supposed to fly out of Charlotte tonight and I'm supposed to pick him up. A little bit of me hopes he is delayed until tomorrow so someone else can do it

LAKE LURE, N.C. – People living near a popular lake in the western North Carolina mountains have been urged to flee to higher ground as officials warn a dam is close to failure.

Relentless rain from what was once Hurricane Helene has resulted in catastrophic flooding from Florida to North Carolina as the storm moves inland across the Southeast.

Rutherford County Emergency Management officials issued a dire warning in a Facebook post Friday to residents near Lake Lure.

"Residents below the Lake Lure Dam need to evacuate to higher ground immediately!!" officials wrote in the post. "Dam failure imminient!! Evacuate to higher ground immediately!!"

Earlier, officials said water from the flooded Broad River is flowing over the Lake Lure Dam. They ordered people living along more than 30 roads near the lake to immediately move to higher ground.
We’ve got a cabin up there. It’s a gorgeous area. Catastrophic damage going on. Hearing Chimney Rock, NC may have been wiped out?

Associated with this...those increased insurance premiums paid by EVERYONE for these disasters and Trump supporters will piss and moan and blame Dems for increased costs to insure.
Oh, Okay. Conjecture or just wishful thinking?

Wishful thinking??????

You know damn well the insurance industry passes on costs.
And California wildfires are not like building near water in the Southeast.
Don't even try and equate the two.
