Iowa City West vs. Muscatine

Pemsl is wide open every time anyway! No one guards him when he's more than 2 feet from the hoop because they're not stupid. Point still stands, you asked how after 3 or 4 years a highschooler cant make a jump shot. Well pemsl is 6'7 and after 4 years of high school and 2 years of college he still cant make anything outside 3 feet.
Citing one post specialist on a team that has players who can hit open jumpers doesn’t answer my question of how an entire team minus one player, (consisting of guards who can’t get their shot at the rim every time) can’t hit an open jumper

Ok that i can agree with.
What i cant agree with is fran recruiting a post specialist who is 6'7.

Its always good policy to not have opinions on what you haven't seen.

Wieskamp is way ahead of Uthoff as a highschool senior.

Well, based on everything I read on here, he is our savior. And I sure as hell hope so. We need a great player.

FWIW, CF just drubbbed SCEast and advances to play Valley. If you haven’t seen AJ Green play he’s worth a look.

Yeah I watched that game and CF looked great. Jack Campbell LB prospect who Iowa offered along with Minny and ISU plays for CF as well. They beat IC West I think earlier in the year. Green when he was a soph went toe to toe with Bohannon and hit a game winning jumper to knock off Linn Mar to go to state. I think he and JBo both put up over or least close to 30 a piece that game. Really hope to see a rematch between IC West and CF in the title game.

I think Jack will end up playing with his hand in the dirt. He is a very good athlete and has the frame to add good weight. Would love to see him in black and gold.

You are right about AJ. I said back then that I thought he had a higher ceiling than JBo. However, I also didn’t think Jordan would be as good as he is so that tells you what I know. AJ has a ton of range, great handles, and no fear. He has long arms and at 6’3”, he has the potential to be a very good defender. UNI is getting a freaking stud.

Totally agree. We all know he is going to play for UNI cause of his Dad being an assistant but people tend to forget Green had a scholarship offer from #1 team in the nation in Virginia. Got to be able to defend to get an offer from Tony Bennett.

Joe is an incredible outside shooter with elite range. He is also a very good dribbler...but, as has already been said, when you have to dribble around 3-4 guys to score there are bound to be some turnovers. He will put some BIG smiles on Hawk fans faces the next 4 years. :)

Actually Joe is not an incredible outside shooter. That is his weakness right now. He needs to improve his outside shot. Right now he is an incredible driver and finisher. Last time I saw he was shooting 36 percent from behind that arch. That is not that good in high school. High school should be around 48-50 percent from 3.

I would not worry about his tournovers. He is a guy who has to do to much on that team. Which leads to turnovers. See Lindell Wigginton from Iowa State in the big 12. He tried to do to much and turned it over. If Joe improves his 3 point shot a lot. He will be very good.

I'm not sure if anyone else has mentioned this yet but Patrick McCaffery needs to gain some weight, 20 pounds maybe.

Sad thing is that based upon their history, Muscatine has to wait another 70+ years before getting another program changing player. If Joe turns out in college half as good as the last one he’ll be doing ok.

Actually, Joe is truly a GREAT outside shooter. I have seen him play many...many....many games. Here is the deal. When Joe gets a little separation, he is dang near automatic. The problem lies in that Joe was never able to shoot in many situations where he did not have 2+ guys on him. So, his 3 pt% is skewed for sure. He was forced to shoot contested 3's because of the way the team was set up. Can't wait to see what he does the next 4 years...

Not true. I followed Wiescamps AAU team all last summer. His shooting is his weekness. Everyone knows that. Even Joe. It’s not an opinion at this points. His stats show it.

As far as Patrick. Watched him again tonight. He scored 14. I honestly don’t think he will contribute for a long time at Iowa. I’m not sure what everyone see’s in him. He is drastically underweight.

I've said the same thing about patrick. Early on i was very high on him. Now, the more I watch the less impressed i am. Sure, for a 6'9 guy he handles better than most, but not good enough to break down a decent defender. His shot is atrocious. I've never seen him take over a high school game (yes i know that's not Bergman style), he's razor thin, and anytime I've seen him take contact at the rim he just chucks the ball at the backboard. I know this is gonna upset everyone who at no time can take off the black and gold glasses but he's gonna struggle in all facets unless he gains some serious pounds and gets a hell of a lot more physical.
Joe w, on the other hand, is gonna be an animal. And green at uni is gonna be a handful. 6'3 with that high release is gonna be a force in the mvc.

If you followed his AAU team, why are you ignoring his stats?

Ya, Joe's 3% numbers are definitely skewed by being triple teamed. I don't agree his outside shot is his weakness, its damn good, just not great when you've got 2-3 guys in your face. He's gonna tear it up at iowa, so long as fran doesn't jack it up.

Ummm no. I know Joe personally, and thus get to watch him all the time...trust me his outside shot is going to be just fine. He is wanting to improve on his entire game. But his shot is fine and his range is excellent. How can say you followed him and not know how to spell his last name? LOL

Except it’s not right now and that’s his weekness. Maybe u knowing him personally is clouding your judgement. 36 percent from three is not good in high school and that is what he was shooting. So that stat is reality.

Andy, You are probably correct that my being friends with Joe and his family would affect my judgment. It is just that what I have seen on the court tells me different. When he is forced to be the primary offense for the team, and he has to put shots up with 2-3 guys all over him....it does affect his numbers. The good thing is we get to see what he can do next year. I hope he shows that he can shoot the 3 well.

I doubt many people on here know who Murray Weir was. I probably wouldn't know much about him either except my father in law played with him in high school in Grandview Iowa, before Weir played his senior year at Muscatine. Of course Grandview school is no longer there, its an apartment building now. Weir led college basketball in scoring in 1948 I think at 21 points per game and was a first team AA.
