****Iowa @ Michigan game thread****

Fran learned nothing from watching tape(if he did) of the Louisville Michigan game. We can’t defend a ball screen to save our life. And why Pemsl is playing I have no idea. His injuries have just killed him. Can’t move at all. Go small and play Joe T.

Wow Garza is unreal. Single handedly keeping us in this thing. Need others to start stepping up if we are gonna pull off the win.

If he can get 1 or 2 of his teammates to come along with him, Iowa could make it a game. Iowa has zero chance against a team like Michigan if Wieskamp plays like that. Not to put everything on him, but if he's a total non-factor Iowa isn't beating anyone good.

3 things.

1. Horrible idea for Fran to take Garza out after the media under 4 timeout. He just got a break from the media timeout. Iowa was within 5 and when Garza came back in, down by 9. Bad strategic move by Fran.

2. Defense is not good tonight.

3. Garza is awesome but needs help. Where the heck is Joe Wieskamp?

I love Cordell but I think you're right. He does not look the same. No quickness.

Yeah it's weird this game is probably closer if Fran had just the 8 guys who played against Syracuse. I feel bad for Pemsl, he's not healthy. The non-stop injuries have just turned him into a shell of what he once was. But Fran can't just put him out there to play, it's not fair ot him or the team.

Garza has owned Teski.

Michigan has a lot of talent. We are slow to the 3 point line and getting eaten alive because of it. Kriener and Pemsl are just totally outmatched by the Michigan bigs.

I’m still feeling good about how we look. We are going to lose the game, but our starters look like they belong in the B1G. The bench, not so much.

Yes, we switch every screen. That’s fine if all of your guys are interchangeable. Unfortunately we end up with Pemsl guarding Simpson at the 3 pt line. So dumb.

Probably won’t matter but why the fu ck do you take Garza out at the under 4? He’s getting a TO already and in 2 minutes he’s getting halftime.

After seeing more of Pemsl, I definitely miss Nunge. Wow, that was brutal. Stare Kriener down for 2 seconds, see the guy is overplaying him and throw it anyway 4 feet out of bounds. Clear path to the basket blows a lay up. Those two gaffs cost Iowa 5 points. Time to play Touissant to have someone who might be able to get by their defender.

1. Edit: my bad, maybe I'm not remembering the timing correctly now that I think about it, it might have been earlier. No comment on this point.

2. Agreed with Joe W and as usual JBo. CJF, Garza, and Connor have been respectable. MI is a good team.

3. Agree. 2 of 3 of Joe W, CJF, and JBo needs to have a very good second half to stand a chance.

Agree. Pretty clear nobody other than Joe T has a chance at getting by anyone off the bounce. Without Garza going nuts I am not sure Iowa would have 10 points.

Iowa's defensive switching is perplexing.

Teams that can spread the floor and move the ball with shooters Iowa will struggle with. For all of the talk about improved defense, it's not really the case. Iowa is still a bad defensive team, the only worse defensive team (on efficiency metrics) in the league is Nebraska, who is near historically bad.

Iowa's wins over TTech and Syracuse are nice, but Syracuse is perhaps the worse ORange team under Boeheim. TTech will probably be good once their new guys get it, they followed up losing to Iowa by losing to Creighton and DePaul. Now they play Louisville.

Sorry to have to say this but Joe W. has kinda sucked lately.

He doesnt suck clearly the plan is to throw it to Luka every time down and we all know he isnt ever passing.....Their wont be shots for anyone else....

When will see all the shooters that Fran has talked about? I see Garza and a team of guys who can't get their own shot. Time to have CJ and Joe T drive and kick or this will turn ugly thinking Garza is going to keep Iowa in the game himself. Iowa has to grind to get Garza a shot and MI gets dunks and open 3's at will.

true...no garza and it would be a major blow out. Fran needs to play Bakari and joeT more and get the defense amped.

He is just not right, he has struggled and misses far more than he makes lately. Sophmore slump/sickness at the Vegas tourney.
