They don't have a freaking clue on the world stage who Cael Sanderson is. He's a nobody.
You think world champions follow Cael Sandersons college coaching. Lmao.
Name a coach from a college wresting team in Russia brilliant one?
You think Iran and Russia are impressed that he went undefeated in college and won four NCAA championships. 🤣🤣🤣
Carl is great in the USA college wrestling world, World stage, he's a nobody. They all know who David Taylor is.
Funny thing is, they don't even know where he went to college, and don't give a shit.
Do you know where Yazz, Sadulaev etc... wrestled in college.
I don't.
Case and point.
Carl is a nobody on the world stage. Dime a dozen.
You couldn't be more wrong. First, they know Cael won an Olympic Gold Medal... The other coaches around the world do their homework on who beat who in America to make the team.... Such as, they start watching how Zane Richards beat Gilman to make the team in 2023 even if they were not familiar before with Richards.. Foreign coaches were well aware of Gilman, Snyder, Retheford, Dake, and Taylor and which room they were training in and who was coaching them... Just because you don't know where and with whom Sadulaev or Yazdani are training, does not mean other wrestlers and coaches around the world don't. You don't have a need or a reason to know, they feel like they do want to keep up on that.
And (yes, it is going to look like I am name dropping), I was in the sauna at the hotel at the non-Olympic weight World Championships, and Ono was in there with me and just one other guy (another American). Ono started striking up conversation. The first thing he said was, "Are you Americans?" The very next thing out out of his mouth, after I replied, "Yes," was, "After this, I am going to Penn State to train with Cael Sanderson at Penn State." (and he later said, "... after that I may go to Okie State." hOno actually did refer to it as "Okie." So I do not know who reached out to who first, let's say it is Cael and they contacted Ono and offered him some $ to come train there etc.. but he knew quite a lot...
I was very close to a former Soviet/Armenian World Champion/Olympian who competed in the early mid 90s, and knew about Gable. His coaches told him stories... My friend about crapped himself when he saw the Gable statue at Carver during the Olympic Trails, and he almost pissed himself when he met Gable in the concourse of Carver. To him, the stories of this American that won the World Championships and Olympics, beating Soviets, while also totally exhausting all of his opponents, was something of legend that they held in regard at a level that wold best be described as awe. "My coach told me about the American that trained 8 hours a day 7 days a week" were something of a legend, they had heard about. Btw, there are seven wrestlers from his hometown which is smaller than the Iowa City area (include Coralville, North Liberty), that have won Gold Medals at the World and / or Olympics since 1988, so it isn't like they needed to tell stories about Gable when they had this many wrestlers from one club having this type of success.
