Iowa versus PSU - dual thread

I figured 133 and 197 were our wins coming in and that's what we got. That was an even bigger ass beating than I thought was going to happen and I had zero illusions about pulling any upsets. We literally didn't belong on the same mat as them at most of the weights. TnT are Carl's whipping boys. I honestly don't see anyone including us beating them ever again while Carl is there unless Taylor can get things rolling. Dudes got embarrassed out there. Angelo and Buchanan are the only two who manned up vs good competition. Drake got a pass vs an undersized 125 backup.
In all fairness, everyone is Carl's whipping boy at this point.
There will be a shift, might take a few years. No one is on top forever.
The piper comes calling for all.

The tell tale sign is when you have the same benefactor who throws money at these 5th or 6th year kids and they jump at it, yet young kids like Lilledahl, etc know where their future is best set and deny the free agency farce. NIL isn't a sustainable way to build a program in the sport of wrestling, but if they continue to believe that and get turned down by the top young kids, nothing will change. Honestly, I think most of the other top programs hope the Brands stay until they drop. I know it hurts, but the trajectory of UNI and Iowa State will continue to entice many of the kids who want to go to school in that area of the country. I love parody, but until there are major changes in the landscape of college wrestling, it just shows times have changed from the 80's and 90's.
I love parody too.

Bringing in 3 top 3 guys is recruiting. You can call it whatever you want, but would you rather they hadn’t brought them in along with Ferrari? 4 studs in 1 year is better than everyone but you know who. But yeah, not beating the PSU freightrain means we blow it all up. Good luck with that.
Bringing in dudes doesn’t matter if you can’t coach them up to the next level. Just like bringing in top 5 recruits doesn’t matter if you continuously run them into the ground and don’t develop them to their potential. We’ve had exactly ONE national champion in the last 7 years. What more proof do you need that what Iowa is doing isn’t working.

That’s the reality of the Brands legacy right now. People are scared that we’ll lose what we have, but that’s a losers mentality. We’re already losing and it will only continue to get worse the longer we hold on.

How is David Taylor any more of a sell out than Carl? He followed the bag of money to Penn State and decimated Iowa State wrestling in the process! Carl is way more of a sell out than David, and it’s not even close.
Btw, David Taylor on the world stage makes Caels resume look like a weakstick. Way more accomplished.
He buried his mentor, where it counts.
Worlds.

Agree but for Schreiver to get past being ok he will need to finish shots which historically he has not. Block pretty similar.
He is not getting past being ok. Until we can recruit a full lineup of really high end talent we won't be doing squat. They have 10 studs in the starting spots and another 10 lined up or planned for taking over. Brands sand bagged the recruiting for too long and he is buried now. PSU got too big. They have finally been putting in more effort but it's totally up hill now. They needed to be doing that 10 years ago.

In terms of realistic expectations for tonight, I'm most disappointed in Parco and Caliendo. Maybe they gassed (not good either), but just felt both lost mental focus or toughness. Hard enough to beat PSU guys now, but zero chance without mental discipline and toughness.

Still love our team now, but we got a ways to go if we hope to start narrowing the gap.

This is pathetic.
They don't have a freaking clue on the world stage who Cael Sanderson is. He's a nobody.
You think world champions follow Cael Sandersons college coaching. Lmao.
Name a coach from a college wresting team in Russia brilliant one?
You think Iran and Russia are impressed that he went undefeated in college and won four NCAA championships. 🤣🤣🤣
Carl is great in the USA college wrestling world, World stage, he's a nobody. They all know who David Taylor is.
Funny thing is, they don't even know where he went to college, and don't give a shit.
Do you know where Yazz, Sadulaev etc... wrestled in college.
I don't.
Case and point.
Carl is a nobody on the world stage. Dime a dozen.

Desanto, Woods, Eierman, Caliendo have had their best NCAA finishes at Iowa. Feel free to take the final word and put out your list of who would do better and is obtainable.

The only way we narrow the gap is by taking their wrestlers and putting them on our roster.

He is an Olympic Gold Medalist. Remember, these top foreign guys come to NLWC. They know who he is.

Anyone have an alternate feed?
i know its too late now, but for future reference:

I go on to the Iowa wrestling schedule and right click on the big ten network icon and open in incognito mode. it opens fox sports. you get a 60 minute trial period to watch. after the 60-minutes you can do it again in incognito mode. Never had an issue with the stream on any event I've watched.

If you don't do it on incognito mode you will only be able to get one 60-minute trial period as it tracks your cookies

I am no Cael fan but I have to disagree about the world not knowing US collegiate wrestling. I used to live in Europe. Spent a lot of time in Eastern Europe and western Russia. Everytime I wore Iowa gear I would always have someone make a comment about Iowa Wrestling, Gable, Brands and surprisingly many Iowa legends you would never expect to be know halfway across the world.

The hawk is/was well known. Doubt many colleges had that kind of recognition in that part of the world. I always thought that was really cool. Oh so far the fall.

This was my biggest disappointment as well. Going in the team score & officiating were what I expected.
What was unexpected is half the team breaking and looking like takedown dummies in the 3rd period. Straight in shots, turning arms in, not gaining hand control in escape situations, poor stances and the lack of ineffective riding.
This was the best competition we’ll see and could be one the best teams we’ve wrestled in decades.
I love the Hawks and will always support them, however I am glad this one is over.

This year’s most dominant world champion listed Cael as one of his favorite wrestlers to watch. They know who he is.

You are unequivocally wrong here.

So all of your rentals are sellouts being that they folllowed the money to Iowa? Isn’t that the way it works in the world, I’m sure you’re employed somewhere, if another company offers you a huge pay increase to do the same job you’re going to take it? So does that make you a sell out?
I was responding to SeamusGquaker, why don’t you ask him.

We have a good team. We have the second best team. Penn State is on another level. It took ten years for them to build this dynasty. It'll take ten years (or more) to topple it.

In the meantime, taking second at NCAAs for the next several years would be a step in the right direction. Let's do that this year then reassess.

Bet it pisses him off a lot. GS is going to make Kerk look silly in his final year.
I assume GS will be the Big Ten champion so Kerk will have to get past Hendrickson from Oklahoma State to get a second shot at GS and I’m not sure he can beat him now that he’s getting coached up. That dude is looking tough.

He does it without even practicing. Not saying he never shows up to practice but directly from a Gopher 197/285, “Gable never went hard in practice.” He’s a freak.
This is why he lost to cassar and could lose to kerk.

The point is he would never have lost to cassar if he was training hard. I don't believe he will bonus kerk. I would pick gs to win but it wouldn't shock me if kerk won.
Cassar stalled his ass off until Gable tired himself out, and then capitalized. If they officiated Cassar like Angelo last night Gable would have never lost to him. I imagine Kerk will have a somewhat similar strategy. Gable just isn’t the guy that the wrestling community wants him to be. Doesn’t give a shit about the sport.

We brought in 3 top-3/4 guys this year and we're no closer than we were a year ago. And the PSU JV team would likely be a top 10 team right now. It feels like we are miles behind this PSU program.
Isn’t it crazy to read this and think damn it’s so accurate. Like this is one our best lineups and we aren’t close. They legit have 7-8 finalist potentials.

Kasak and Block were pretty darn equal coming out and now look. Sure block had a knee but he still wouldn't be in the same area code. Kasak jumps into the lineup last year and goes from losing early to Rathjen to placing 3rd. Up a weight this year and legit title contender.
