Iowa/Wisconsin pbp/discussion

Iowa looked good.

Wisconsin kept some matches close, but not a single guy in their lineup wrestled with any aggressiveness or urgency. Even their top-8 ranked guys wrestling third-stringers never sniffed a major. Gomez was quite pleased with himself that he hung on for a 3-2 win. GI Joe with lifelike hair at 125 (don't recall his name) was happy to stand around in the 3rd when he had a 4-point lead on Ybarra. Weiler patted Assad on the butt with 2 seconds left after riding him the entire 3rd, as if it's the end of practice. Weird.

Ybarra looked better but, man, he's got a long ways to go.

DeSanto looked great.

Eirman wasted some time, as always, but came through.

Turk looked as good as I expected him to look, maybe better.

Young scored more than usual.

Marinelli scored early, looked good against an undefeated guy...and looked like he'd beat him 3 times out of 3,

Not sure Assad's gonna make the podium, but he looked decent.

Warner is Warner, but a nice takedown for the win.

Cass looked superb.

Nice to see all the Reiland shirts, and a good send-off for the seniors.

All in all that was a great way for the seniors to close out their CHA careers. That was a f*n ass kicking.

My quick thoughts:

-Someone mentioned they were impressed that Ybarra was able to keep it close against a low level AA. Just because he wrestled to keep it close doesn't mean he was even in the same world as giving himself a chance to win. Had he done that against a legit title contender, then sure, hats off. But against Barnett? No, we expect him to compete. Also, those arm drags don't do shit against someone like Barnett.
He's got a long way to go and if/ when Drake comes back, we may never see Ybarra get another start.

-Man I love watching Austin. If all 10 guys wrestled with his tenacity we'd win a team title every damn near. Of all these seniors, i will miss him the most.

-Jaydin is looking better. Those quick hitting TD's to close out periods in back to back matches are what makes me think he's rounding back into form. He was on the prowl today and it showed. I don't think he was wasting time as much as he was waiting for the opening.

-KY is KY. Workmanlike to the end. As frustrating as he is, we will miss him. He's the ultimate team player and it has to be so difficult being in his position, sucked down for his size. I hope he finds the podium this year and the fans shower him with praise for eternity.

-Bull with a nice win. That was the biggest 8-5 beat down I've seen. Outside of that sloppy reversal he was in complete control. He dominated for 6:45. But you could tell he wasn't happy with how that match ended. Good. It means he's still motivated.
Get that tank topped off and I love his chances in March.

-Kemerer just keeps moving forward. He was steady throughout the bout before breaking it open with that cradle. Personally, I think he gave up on it a bit too soon - but a bonus point win is exactly what the crowd wanted.

-I missed Assad's match. No comments.

-Warner hung tough and thoroughly controlled that match against a dangerous opponent that's still figuring things out. One slip up and Amos wins that match early. Personally, I think he wrestled smart and did exactly what he needed to do. No mental lapse this week. Oh, and that was a helluva ride to close out the 3rd!

-Big Cass kicking ass per usual. Trent Hillger is no joke either! Mr. Man Bun is a 2x AA that most teams would kill to have and Cass has now bonused him in 3 consecutive matches. In fact, Cass has out-scored him 26-1 in those 3 matches.
Domination.
Furthermore, I was super impressed with his final TD. That may have been the most athletic TD I've seen from him yet. Cass is becoming more comfortable in his new form and it shows. He's transitioning away from those snatch singles and is now level changing and firing off leg attacks. Ya love to see it!

I thought the scrambling seemed to wear Bull down a bit. He's definitely going to need to improve his gas tank in those situations, with O'toole, Wick and possibly 2 more matches against Hamiti

Poor hilger - likely a top 2-4 guy in any year beside this wild heavy weight era, also love cass puttin guys down. Maybe he can make up some ground on Paris as well. Cass whooooopin!!
Hilger hasn’t ever been a top 2-4 guy. Top8-10 yes

B1G does such a professional job on the production, but for the love of God, can someone please tell the director to focus on the live match at the beginning of the periods? We've missed the first 3-5 seconds of periods at least 5 times while the camera is looking at somebody's mom or lingering on a replay for too long.
Speaking of piss poor production, did anyone watch the VTech vs Duke dual from yesterday? I had it recorded and flipped through it to watch any interesting matchups of which there weren’t very many. Maybe the only ranked vs ranked match was 149 Andonian vs Finesilver. When it came to 141 they talked it up a bunch and showed video of previous matchups etc. When they finally cut to the actual match, the ref was raising Andonians hand! The commentators had no idea what was going on, I’m pretty sure they were not at the actual event! It was so stupid. Andonian had pinned him 20 SECONDS into the match. They cut to commercial and when they came back they had about 3 seconds of video showing Andonian with the pin and that was it. Totally blew it.

I’m not sure that I’ve seen Ybarra try to get to a leg shot yet this year. He relies on quickness and slidebyes. That ain’t gonna cut it at this level of you can’t get to a leg.

Other than 125 (I think we all know what we have there at this moment, not much) I would consider this a solid bounce back effort. I’m still a little concerned with how worried JE is with his hand.

Anyone at the meet know what the shirts look like? Didn’t they give away shirts?

White shirts with pic of Spencer, Desanto, Eierman, Young, Bull, and Kemerer standing with arms crossed in black print.

I snagged a couple shirts, but don't know how to post pictures. Eierman was wearing one after he came back to the bench.

*here's the print that is on the shirts:

The last shove at the whistle by Turk was probably unnecessary, but he turned around and went back to the center to shake hands without saying a word while Gomez is just mouthing off and making an ass of himself lol. Gomez definitely more of the classless punk in that situation IMO
FWIW, from my seat on the couch, Gomez took exception to Turk’s shoving and let him know it, and then it was the boo-birds in the stands that triggered his post-match response. One slob in the front row was really berating him as he walked by between the stands and the table, which of course facilitated continued sign language from Gomez.

Fans should not get so worked up, IMO.
