He probably attempted a slide by more times than Byrd attempted an offensive move. Byrd did get close to scoring more.
If a slide by is not a shot, then Drake went the entire season without taking hardly any shots.

In regards to the time when freshmen weren't eligible.: everybody going forward still has a chance to be a four-timer. It was a permanent rule change, not a one-time thing. Only the people wrestling in 21 have the opportunity to be five timers
Only against Iowa. Intense scramble called "stall." I've never seen anything like the in the finals.
I wrestled in HS and college and follow college wrestling as close as anyone. There is absolutely no consistency in how stalling is called or not .

You could hear the ref in the background say, "I had to". I think the crowd and Illinois coaches got to him. I agree that was not a correct call on the point but also could have probably been called earlier. The inconsistency is what is killing the sport.
I would have been ok if the ref had given another stall call earlier on Ayala. That last one was BS though. Ayala just escaped, what else could he do there?

Does DA have anything other than the slide by? Seems like any time he's in against a guy who can effectively shut that down he's kind of lost out there.
He’s got a good single but struggles to get to it when he’s not winning the hand fight. Byrd is a great hand fighter and controlled the entire match.
Would have felt like we stole one if he won it in TBs honestly.
He has a solid swing single. But Byrd sits so damn low with his legs back it’s very hard to get to.

Yep. The actual sequence the second call was on wasnt the most egregious one as Ayala was actually in the process of circling in when he was called. But he probably should've been dinged a second time already by then
Yes think of it like this:
Drake comes forward all match, takes the only committed leg attacks, almost scores 3 times but Byrd finds a way to get out of bounds, then loses in rideouts on a few seconds of RT. We would all, RIGHTFULLY, be losing our minds.
I thought he started to swipe two different times. 5 more seconds and he would have had it. also, Byrd looked to be damn near stuck.
