Bad call for Drake to lose, but Byrd won that match. Drake was fortunate that it even went to OT. He brought a C- game.Hard to win a wrestling match if you don't get a takedown.

That is 100% how it works. Did any of the other four timers have a chance to be a five timer? No, that’s not how it works, there were a few thousand people that had a chance to win for and I don’t know if any other than Brooks 13. Everyone knows Dan Gable only had a chance to win three that falls a sport, everyone also knows that until Carter had that fifth year due to Covid that four times was the standard. It’s not like we have 64 time. Champs, we have seven and 1 five time champ.
He probably attempted a slide by more times than Byrd attempted an offensive move. Byrd did get close to scoring more.Guys, he got marched around the mat, sat on the edge, took 0 shots, and almost got taken down like 3 times and was saved by the edge. That’s stalling.
Complete bs allowing him to compete for 5.That is 100% how it works. Did any of the other four timers have a chance to be a five timer?
Don't slack off and get dinged earlier in that match and he's not in that position.Terrible to call it on that sequence…he gets the escape near the edge and gets the bum rush out while still trying to circle.
In regards to the time when freshmen weren't eligible.: everybody going forward still has a chance to be a four-timer. It was a permanent rule change, not a one-time thing. Only the people wrestling in 21 have the opportunity to be five timersNo, that’s not how it works, there were a few thousand people that had a chance to win for and I don’t know if any other than Brooks 13. I wrestled in HS and college and follow college wrestling as close as anyone. There is absolutely no consistency in how stalling is called or not .Actually Byrd just proved you wrong. We've seen so much real stalling in this tournament and they decide the championship on action on the edge right after Drake escaped. To me that's the key. He had just put forth obvious effort to escape and was fighting off a td attempt on the edge when they both went ob. What's Drake supposed to do there?
How did Iowa win 24timenattychamps with losing wrestlers?Time after time an Iowa wrestler loses in the biggest moment. It’s tiresome
Drake wasted the entire first period, actually he wasted damn near 6 minutes of that match without doing anything. Also, don't leave it up to the ref.
Lastly he continues the trend of refusing to ride, at all.
I love Drake, but you get what you earn and earned another runner-up.
Wtf they have 2 refs out there for? Should have been looked at.He was pinned if the stupid ref could have got down there to see it.
You could hear the ref in the background say, "I had to". I think the crowd and Illinois coaches got to him. I agree that was not a correct call on the point but also could have probably been called earlier. The inconsistency is what is killing the sport. We literally watch, year after year, refs swallow their whistles on Saturday night and not call shit. But let it be Iowa…..
Would you have rather he ended it in SV? At least, this gave Drake a chance to respond.I would have been ok if the ref had given another stall call earlier on Ayala. That last one was BS though. Ayala just escaped, what else could he do there?
This I agree with.Shouldn’t have been called on the escape. Earlier possibly, but not on the escape.
Dear god noJust terrible to see the Finals decided by that call. If it goes into overtime stalling should not be able to be called.
He’s got a good single but struggles to get to it when he’s not winning the hand fight. Byrd is a great hand fighter and controlled the entire match.Does DA have anything other than the slide by? Seems like any time he's in against a guy who can effectively shut that down he's kind of lost out there.
Would have felt like we stole one if he won it in TBs honestly.Would you have rather he ended it in SV? At least, this gave Drake a chance to respond.
He has a solid swing single. But Byrd sits so damn low with his legs back it’s very hard to get to.Does DA have anything other than the slide by? Seems like any time he's in against a guy who can effectively shut that down he's kind of lost out there.
And, amazingly, not one neutral danger swipe. How long does it take for neutral danger to get the 3 point takedown? Sure seemed like Byrd was in neutral danger for 2-3 seconds when he got stacked up.
Well if he had scored even 23 points this match, let alone 4 we wouldn't be having this convo. Both can be true. Listen, Drake scored 23 points in a match in this tourney against tOSUand still had a stall point against him.
Seems like the last two champions just did unfortunately. He could have been called before but he shouldn’t have been called there. Absolute bullshit.Hard to win a wrestling match if you don't get a takedown.

Yep. The actual sequence the second call was on wasnt the most egregious one as Ayala was actually in the process of circling in when he was called. But he probably should've been dinged a second time already by thenShouldn’t have been called on the escape. Earlier possibly, but not on the escape.
Yes think of it like this:Would have felt like we stole one if he won it in TBs honestly.
I thought he started to swipe two different times. 5 more seconds and he would have had it. also, Byrd looked to be damn near stuck. And, amazingly, not one neutral danger swipe.
Only against Iowa. Intense scramble called "stall." I've never seen anything like the in the finals.
I was quoting Ironside, but yeah, true.Seems like the last two champions just did unfortunately. He could have been called before but he shouldn’t have been called there. Absolute bullshit.
