*****North Dakota vs Iowa Game Thread*****

Why's he still at ND?
He's only a sophomore.
He had an offer from Providence and took an OV there out of high school so it was a mild surprise he went there. My guess is he portals this year after going through the NBA draft feedback process similar to what Grant Nelson did this past offseason.

Hopefully Fran is sending out the vibes lol.

Kind of disappointed those two didn't get in before the walkons. Even Brauns isn't going to leave, he is an Iowa kid from West High. He left Belmont where he was a starter. I am not expecting him to get pt over Krikke or Freeman but not in at all kind of sucks.

Mulvey, I think everyone gets that Fran realizes he isn't going to work out. He is young and can find another team to play for but give him some games on tape so he can get a shot somewhere else.

Other than those two things, good night. Looked solid from the clips I saw. P
Sandy looks to be our best player which is kind of what I thought. I am surprised with how well Bowen played. Freshman all looked like they can and will contribute... I could see this being a 10 player rotation again but this time there isn't a definite top group that is clearly better. I'm guessing the 2nd team guys compete and probably beat the starters a fair share of times.

Brauns was in street clothes during the game...warmed up for a bit and then went and changed. Didn't notice him limping or favoring anything, so have no idea if it was due to injury or what.

Sounds like BTN+ was underwhelming per usual. I paid for it a few years ago and it was trash. Vowed to never give them another dime for that sh*t. CSB.

Like what everyone has said about the freshman and Bowmen sounds like he's developing.

It's difficult to describe just how awful the girl announcer really was.

I've never heard a person struggle so much to complete coherent sentences.

My wife walked in and immediately asked what's wrong with that girl.

They both seemed very amateur tbh. I didn't find one worse than the other.

One was Jess Settles and he was fine. The problem was that Jess was doing the color commentary and she was doing the play by play TERRIBLY! Literally just called guys by their number instead of their name and was a play behind the whole time.

I feel bad for Settles, honestly.

Dasonte Bowen:
22 minutes
4-6 (67%) from the field
1-2 (50%) from 3
3-3 (100%) FTs
12 points
5 assists
0 turnovers
3 rebounds
2 steals

Fran, in the postgame: "He was special; he's so much more confident."

Fran also said he was really pleased with the 4 freshmen
Wait wait wait waaaait a minute. Did you make up those stats?

I could have sworn that most people thought Dasonte Bowen was pretty much a guaranteed "lost cause" after the exhibition game the other night??

Let's let the season play out. He was playing against North Dakota.

I'm sure UND is utterly terrible, but still, some actual offense.

Still don’t understand Brauns leaving a solid program like Belmont where he was a starter to come here and never play. Makes absolutely zero sense.

He apparently is dealing with a small ankle injury.
He also left Belmont because he really wanted to be a Hawkeye. Let's not forget the original report was that he was willing to walk-on here in order for Iowa to pursue another big man. Once that fell through, Fran gave him the scholarship.

I get that. But again, he was a starter at a solid program and at this position looks like he’s not going to see the court, healthy or not. But whatever.

Well, he's from IC right? Maybe he just wanted to be around family and friends,

Speaking of not making sense to me is Mulvey. I turned off the game before he got in, but he must not be developing at all. Too bad.

I like this team. Lots of talent and they played hard last night - sometimes Fran's teams have looked sluggish in November. We'll see ....

Payton, Krikke, and Patrick should never be on the floor together. Frankly two of those guys probably shouldn’t be playing together.

He might be one of the few who is OK as long as he gets a scholarship and likes being a student at Iowa. Maybe he'll be the proverbial late bloomer who figures it out in his last year of eligibility. Currently, he is less a factor than Josh O and that is a low bar.
